Because our office handles a number of livestock cases, we wanted to share some information about Avian Influenza/H5N1. This information is accurate as of 1/3/24 and we will watch for updates as they are available.

The virus is spread through f***s, saliva, mucus, and other bodily fluids, so contact with sick or deceased animals should be limited or avoided when possible.

Domestic cats are very susceptible to Avian Influenza. They can contract the virus by eating or being in contact with sick wild or domestic birds, or by consuming raw milk, eggs, or meat. It is recommended to avoid all of these potential risks, including commercially prepared raw or freeze dried raw foods until more testing is available.

It is not recommended for humans to consume raw milk, eggs, or meat either.

As you are all aware, there has been a lot going on around Launch Dawsonville. We have been in negotiations with multiple potential buyers over the past many months, but unfortunately there have been too many hurdles to overcome. As of July 13th, 2023 Launch Dawsonville will no longer be open to the public.

Please understand that this announcement comes with a heavy heart. As of today, options within our control have been removed and we are no longer able to solve for Launch Dawsonville's future. The Stalnaker family has remained fully invested in the success of Launch as not only business owners but as members of the North Georgia community, and so strongly desired to create a safe, family friendly environment for families and children to attend, spend quality time and make lifetime memories together.

We remain beyond grateful for all of our staff that have committed so much to the potential success of Launch Dawsonville, but most importantly to our surrounding communities. We were able, for a short time, to provide a gathering place in our community that was so deeply needed. We would not have accomplished all we did without all of you.

We wanted to share this informational chart on the roles involved in taxes. The tax rate, or millage [rate] in each county is set annually by the Board of County Commissioners and by the Board of Education. A tax rate of one mill represents a tax liability of one dollar per $1,000 of assessed value. The average county and municipal millage rate is 30 mills. Due to the construction taking place at Veterans Memorial Park, the egg hunt will be held at Main Street Park in downtown Dawsonville (behind Food Lion).
