Here are the top five most common reasons I’ve heard over the years:

1️⃣ You don’t know where or how to start

I get it. You search the internet and start to go down the rabbit hole and then just have no clue what to do. I’m here to help educate you and provide the knowledge you need to know how to get started. Spoiler alert: it’s super easy and there are a plethora of different options!

2️⃣ Cost

Did you know that by adding just 20% of fresh food to your pet’s diet you can see some of the benefits? It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. By adding fresh food as a topper a few times per week, your pet can reap the benefits.

3️⃣ Picky Pet

If you have a pet with a history of turning their nose up at food, I understand why you’re hesitant to buy another food to go to waste. Luckily I have samples you can take home to try first, which is a $0 commitment to try a new food!

4️⃣ Bacteria

This a common concern that is typically brought up at your vet when discussing adding fresh food. All of the brands that I carry have special processes in place to ensure safety and eliminate common pathogens like salmonella, listeria and e.coli. It is also important to wash your hands and the surface where you’re prepping food. It’s no different than when you’re prepping food for yourself. Washing your pet’s food and water bowls regularly is also an important step to eliminating the possibly of bad bacteria building up.

5️⃣ Limited Fridge and/or Freezer space

Unless you have a big dog or multiple dogs, you don’t need too much freezer or fridge space. If you don’t want to dedicate any freezer or fridge space to your pet’s food, there are lots of other options of how to add good nutrition to their diet. Freeze-dried is the most popular alternative, but you can also choose from steam-dried, air-dried or dehydrated! These options are also great for traveling since they’re shelf stable and more convenient.

Adopt A Pit needs your help! At any given time they have 150+ animals in their care. All animals are placed in foster homes until they’re adopted. They have bottle babies to seniors in hospice care and everything in between. Don’t be fooled by the name, they take ANY breed.

They are in desperate need of food and treats. It takes a lot of food to keep 150+ animals fed. This is where you come in. By purchasing food and/or treats, you’re helping to feed homeless animals AND the rescue can use their donations towards vet bills and saving more lives rather than towards a food bill.

UPDATE: Cosmo, Suzie and Garfield (pictures below) found forever homes today along with four others. Congrats to all of the families who added a kitten to their homes!

TOMORROW (Saturday, June 1, 2024) come meet adoptable kittens available from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton between 12-3pm.

I am now an official offsite adoption location so Cosmo, Suzie and Garfield are here at the store as part of the program and are available for adoption (see attached photos.) Several more kittens will be coming tomorrow! Please fill out an adoption application before the event if you’re interested in adopting a kitten to expedite the adoption process tomorrow. Filling out an application does NOT guarantee you a kitten. Adoptions are done on a first come first serve basis.
