So I just discovered the most amazing tool for my mohair work 🤷🏼‍♀️🤓

So this is not my usual, ‘beautiful new piece of mohair’ picture. But let me explain! And if you are on the fence about investing in some mohair tack, this will definitely be of interest to you.

This is one of the very first mohair sets I made. When I made this set I decided I was going to USE it! It was going to be my everyday set and I was not going to be gentle with it or even really take care of it. I really wanted to see how it would hold up to everyday use. To be honest, I was pretty skeptical. I wasn’t very confident that these pieces would hold up like some of the leather tack that I have had since I was a teenager.

So… this set has been on a few different horses. It has seen mud, rain, snow, heat, humidity, been completely soaked in a pond (yes, while it was on a horse 🤦🏼‍♀️), and even frozen solid. I have “cleaned” it maybe twice by hosing it off and hanging it to dry. And I used a regular horse brush on the back side a time or two after getting it completely covered in hay from hanging in the barn while loading the upstairs with hay. This set has seen many hours and miles of use.

I am actually quite amazed at how well this set has held up with all I’ve put it through. Even the back side (in the first picture) doesn’t look bad at all! I am definitely pretty confident that this set, and any others I make, will be able to be used for many years to come AND still look good!

So don’t be afraid of an investment in some good, quality tack. I can pretty confidently say that you won’t be disappointed! And you can definitely USE IT! I mean what is the point of buying a beautiful tack set of you are afraid to ruin it by using it??

** As far as how you are actually supposed to clean your mohair tack… it doesn’t take much effort at all! Removing the leather and dipping the mohair in warm water then hanging to dry is really all you have to do. Even easier than cleaning leather! **
