As we dive into August, it means we’ve been diligently working with industry experts to analyze our income, expenses, and profitability while ensuring the growth of Pooch Pawlor. We prioritize quality over quantity, utilizing premium products and ongoing education to become a luxury dog spaw.

Now let’s talk about some changes. Our bathing prices were weight and coat length-based in 2024, but in 2025, it’ll be strictly based on weight with no coat length variants. Unfortunately, our current pricing structure results in financial losses for most baths. To accommodate physical limitations, we’ve lowered the maximum weight for our services.

Your favorite groomer has been feeling a bit under the weather. We were closed on Saturday but did not make a formal announcement. We will continue to be closed Monday and Tuesday, as of right now, to rest and recover.

Congratulations to Linda Mackie and Katie Murgatroyd Carter for winning our contest in guessing the dollar amount closet to what was actually spent.

Katie with the guess of $1500 was right on the money for all of the supplies we had bought.

Linda with the guess of $2500 was also right on the money with how much it cost for all of the supplies, food, gas, and registration for the expo and classes, not including time off.

It takes 24 small dog full body grooms to be able to buy all of these supplies, and an additional 15 small dog grooms, totaling 39, to pay for everything that was done in 4 days and 40 hours.

With all of our overhead expenses, it takes about 5 - 6 months to save up for this one local expo. There are at least 12 - 15 expos all over the United States yearly. This doesn't include traveling for hands on education and seminars. We are working towards gaining multiple certifications and becoming a Master Groomer within the next 5 years.

We're back in the shop! Man, what a fun filled weekend was meeting new and old friends and Connecting with groomers and vendors from all over.

I want to thank all of my customers. Without you, I would not be able to go to events like these to expand my career. As the pet and grooming industry is unregulated, it is very important to have a groomer who is always continuing their education through conferences like these. As well as, obtaining membership through local and national organizations, such as the Ohio Profesional Pet Groomers Association.

From Thursday to Sunday, we participated in approximately 20 hours of continuing education with an additional 20 hours of networking, shopping, and watching friends competing in the grooming competition.

I learned so much in 20 hours and are gaining a few certificates too. Thursday we learned and were certifed on the 15 Coat Types and how to properly bathe and groom them. Yes, you read that correctly, there are 15 coat types in dogs. While some of it was a good refresher, I didn't even know all 15, as we don't work with all 15 in a normal pet grooming salon, but that's okay. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were spent in Business Classes. Yes, even your dog groomer needs business classes. Friday evening we also had a wonderful First Aid and CPR class, which we are certified in as well. While we have done this class before, it's always a great refresher.

I enjoyed every moment of it and I'm excited as to what it will bring to this ever growing business.

Did you know?

The 148th Westminster Kennel Club Show is being held in New York this week. Pictured are the Winners of last nights Groups. From the Hound Group, we have the Afghan Hound. From the Toy Group, we have the Shih Tzu. From the Non-Sporting Group, we have the Poodle (Miniature). And from the Herding Group, we have the German Shepherd Dog.

These four dogs will join tonight's winners from the Sporting, Working, and Terrier Groups to compete for the title of Best In Show!! Join us in watching the excitement on Fox Sports 1 or the livestream on the Westminster Kennel Club YouTube page.
