One of the cats I bred that is approximately 16 years old has been found as a stray in San Mateo CA. Is anyone missing a cat that would be around that age? Neutered Male -- looks like a Savannah.

Fig - my F2 Chausie.. my cats have all kinds of cat toys.. what has he played with so far today? A plastic white thing they put in the pizza box so it does not get squished.... a plastic butterfly ring off a kids cupcake... a twist-tie from the bread loaf. and how he has a round thing that looks like a rubber band but it is solid - not even sure what it is.. and another favorite.. shoe laces... he has a couple he drags all over the house.. ignores the 3 cat trees in here.. of course, plays in the boxes...lol

Owner placement due to developing allergies.

7 month old male Chausie available in Oakland Calif.

Rumi turned 7 months old on August 11th. He is playful, bold and curious. He sees other cats and runs up to play with them. He instantly likes small dogs, and older mellow larger dogs. If they are high energy larger dogs, it takes a few days for him to warm up, but he does warm up. His desire to play and be part of a pack is strong. He loves people, and is extremely friendly. He plays with soft paws, I've not been scratched yet. He goes insanely crazy over the feather stick, and is impressively athletic - loves to leap and twist in the air as he is playing.

I have taken him traveling as an adventure cat. He has gone hiking in the woods on leash, gone sailing, canoeing, and played at the beach. He doesn’t run to the water, but when he's in the water is alright. He is fascinated by the surface of the water, and can spend hours on end watching seagulls and ducks. He has tried to make friends with the ducks on the dock here, but they are not interested… yet. I'm sure he will win them over with his persistence and sweetness.

He is a snuggler and lover, extremely affectionate. He head butts the people he really likes, and enjoys a scratch under his chin, lower belly rubs and lower back /tail scratches in particular.

He has had all his shots, is chipped and very healthy, happy and well adjusted. He is located in Oakland California, and we would prefer not to fly him in cargo, if possible, a local pick up would be best. It would be ideal if he could fly in the cabin with a person.

Important Information from the latest TICA newsletter.

Q. I've heard reports of something called Bobcat Fever. Is this something I should be concerned about?

A. Yes, veterinarians in many Southeastern parts of the United States have reported the deadly disease Cytauxzoon felis, known as 'Bobcat Fever,' to be on the rise in recent years.

The disease is passed from bobcats to domestic cats through ticks, typically during the months of March through September, when the tick vectors are active.

While bobcats, the natural hosts, are typically asymptomatic, domestic cats are not so lucky. After being bitten by a tick carrying this protozoan parasite, domestic cats typically show signs of depression, lethargy, Anorexia, fever and dehydration, within 5-14 days.

Unfortunately, the disease progresses quickly and affected cats can die within 2-3 days without treatment.

Infected cats are typically treated with anti-parasitic drugs and supportive care, which may include intravenous fluids, blood transfusions and nutritional support. Even with aggressive treatment, many affected cats don't survive.

Since there is no vaccine to prevent Cytauxzoon felis, the best way to protect your cat is to minimize his risk of exposure.
Keeping your cat indoors and away from the risk of ticks is the most effective preventive-measure. If your cat must go outside, use a veterinary approved feline tick preventative product, and check daily for ticks. Quick and effective tick removal is important.

Mislabeling of cats as solitary, aloof creatures with little need for human company beyond the physical needs humans meet (like filling up the food bowl) is called into question by a study from Oregon State University that pushes back at the notion of the ‘anti-social’ cat. The findings not only hig...
