Consistent flea prevention is key to keeping your pet itch-free and healthy 🐾

Fleas can live in carpets, furniture, and even pet bedding—making regular protection a must!

Tip: Don’t forget to treat your home and yard too, not just your pet!

❗️🐱 ATTN: CAT PARENTS!!🐱❗️
Did you receive Easter lilies from your church or perhaps a friend or family member sent them to you? If you are a cat owner, DO NOT bring the lilies into your home! Every part of an Easter lily is toxic to cats (including the pollen and water dish) & even a small amount can cause kidney damage.

Hello All! I want to apologize for the lack of Pet of the Week posts for the past couple weeks. This is Dr. Lockhart and I usually do the Pet of the Week posts, but as some of you know, I had surgery on my right shoulder on April 8th for a torn rotator cuff, dislocated biceps tendon, and some various bone spurs/arthritic changes. I have not been working and therefore, was not around to take pictures of our awesome patients! Thankfully, this week, Dr. Mazzei sent me some photos of our Pet of the Week!
Say hello to Honey! Honey is very appropriately named as she is sweet as straight sugar!
I had done surgery on her eye before having my own surgery. Dr. Mazzei saw her this week to make sure she was healing up well. Honey's moms and Dr. Mazzei report she is doing very well.
We can also give Best Dressed Pet of the Week honors to Honey and her moms with their matching tie dye sweatshirts!

Pets may be with us for part of our lives, but to them, we are their whole world. ❤️

They remind us to love unconditionally, live in the moment, and appreciate the little things. Hold them close and cherish every moment you share!

A wagging tail isn’t always a sign of happiness. Dogs use their tails to express many different emotions. The speed, position, and direction of the wag can indicate excitement, curiosity, nervousness, or stress.

Understanding your dog’s full body language, including their tail, ears, eyes, and posture, helps you recognize how they’re really feeling. This builds trust, strengthens your bond, and helps you care for them even better! 🐾💛

We have a Best Dressed Pet of the Week for you this week. He is also our own little miracle!
This is Curly! Curly belongs to our excellent veterinary assistant and groomer, Ellé.
Curly is a resilient little guy. He was extremely sick a couple months ago, and Drs. Mazzei and Lockhart did their absolute best to make him better.
Curly had pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is generally caused by pets eating human food that is too "rich" for them. We see quite a bit of pancreatitis secondary to eating fatty or spicy foods such as bacon, ham, sausage, hamburgers, French fries, etc. While Ellé did not give Curly any human food because she knows better, he managed to get into some anyway.
Curly was so ill with his pancreatitis, he developed both liver and kidney issues as well. Any of these conditions could have been fatal by themselves, let alone all of them together at one time.
Curly spent the better part of two weeks in the hospital, and we are ecstatic to say, he has recovered quite well!
Everyone say hello to the cutest little man ever, Curly!

We have some very special Pets of the Week for you this week!
First, there is this litter of gorgeous Labrador puppies who were in for their second vaccines. Most of them are still available, so if you are interested, just comment, and we can put you in touch with the breeder.
Next we have Miss Matilda. She was in for surgery with Dr. Mazzei this week. Her momma brought her a really cute E-collar! Matilda is the center of her mom's universe, so her E-collar is very appropriate! We can see why! She has quite the personality!
Lastly, we present Jorja! Jorja is the cutest, sweetest little Golden puppy ever! She was in to see Dr Lockhart this week, and was the perfect patient!

It's time for our Pet of the Week! We didn't have anyone super willing to "pose" this week, so there is only one.
Meet Scotty! Poor Scotty just had his ears cleaned in this photo so is holding them down. He's not actually as angry as he looks!
Scotty is a really sweet boy and was very tolerant of our attention.
Everyone say hello to Scotty!

Many of you have likely seen the recent news story about the woman drowning her dog at the airport because its paperwork wasn't "in order."
We wanted to take a moment to be sure our clients and followers are well informed about traveling with pets.
Nearly all travel with pets requires a health certificate issued by a USDA accredited veterinarian, including state to state travel in a car. Obviously, there is no one at the state border asking to see this, but technically, a health certificate should accompany any pet when crossing state lines.
Each airline tends to have their own requirements for taking pets on planes, but since crossing state lines is generally involved, a health certificate is needed, even if the airline doesn't require one.
Traveling internationally or to Hawaii is much more complicated and expensive. Some foreign countries require very little for entry of pets, while for others, it is a process that takes over 6 months and requires specific testing, vaccines, and treatments.
For more information on traveling domestically or internationally with pets, here is the link to the USDA APHIS Pet Travel website.
