On this day we remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement. As Dr. King said in his Letter From Birmingham, Alabama Jail, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." With this in mind, we must acknowledge the role we each play in not only speaking, but acting for justice. It is our responsibility to not only uphold the legacy of Dr. King today, but every day. One quote does not do justice to the lifetime of service and commitment to freedom Dr. King exemplified. Rather, it serves as a reminder for the role we each must play in the long march toward a more just and equitable society for all.
