A large dog area with sagebrush and trails, a small dog area with an agility course and a common dog area for the dogs of all sizes to play!

Sorry for the late notice, but we thought no-one would want to do a Park Clean Up in the rain.

For those of you who were going to help set up for the Holiday Tree Lighting - that set up time has been moved to tomorrow at 3:15pm - right before the Tree Lighting is to start at 4:45.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the Dog Park...

It's CLEAN UP DAY AGAIN!

Saturday, December 14th, 9am to 12 Noon.

Lot's of winter clean up to do - and tree decorating for Sunday!
Come out and help get things cleaned up and ready for a nice holiday event the next day.
I can't believe what a great job our Maintenance Chair, Jen and her crew & volunteers have done this year with keeping the w**ds at bay and. I've seen literally truck loads of foxtails taken out of the Large Dog area. Not to mention the loads of garbage cleaned out from around the shed and the efforts put in by so many around the perimeter keeping that fence line looking great! Sure makes a huge difference and I want to to thank everyone who contributes! This park has looked fantastic all year! They've all done such a great job.
We have one more push for 2024... The I hope everyone will join us for some cookies and hot drinks and lighting of the holiday tree on Sunday at 4:45pm.
We will also announce the Volunteer of the Year and the Sponsor of the Year.
If you have a special ornament you'd like to put on the tree, feel free to bring it... but make sure you bring some string or wire to make sure to doesn't blow away! Would love to see a new tradition where we can decorate the tree (without all the decorations getting lost to the wind) started...

Reminder:

December 10th - 6pm - at the Dayton Valley Senior Center

The DVDP Board of Directors will hold their General Membership Meeting that will include the election agenda item for the Board Officer positions of Secretary, Treasurer, and Member-At-Large.

If you are interested in volunteering your time and holding one of these positions on our Board, come to the meeting and throw your hat into the ring!

Duties for each position are as follows:

Secretary: The Secretary shall organize and collect all Committee business information, keep records, minutes of meetings and member rosters and member email addresses. The Secretary is responsible for notifying all members of important information and meeting notices via email or mail. The Secretary shall preside over meetings in the absence of the President and Vice President.

Treasurer: The Treasurer shall receive and keep track of all monies from events, donations, and sales, which shall be deposited into the DVDP fund. A report of DVDP funds will be given at every monthly meeting, The Treasurer shall present the annual report and a proposed budget at the annual meeting. All monetary requests must go through the Treasurer and be approved by the Executive Board. They are also responsible for maintaining the yearly taxes.

Member-At-Large: The Member at Large shall be a member in good standing of the general membership and shall vote on all motions.

All Directors: Individuals on the Board of Directors must be committed to developing, enacting, and implementing policy and taking responsibility for DVDP business. All Directors are required to attend a minimum of one meeting per quarter and volunteer their time for a minimum of one (1) fundraiser per year. A Director may be reelected to the same office in consecutive years without a waiting period. A Director absent from three (3) consecutive regular meetings will be considered inactive.

We will also be taking volunteers to serve as our Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs for the to coming year for the following positions:
Rules & Regulations
Maintenance
Media/Public Relations
Fundraising/Events
Grants
Volunteers
Historian

To be eligible to run for a position, you must be a Member. Eligibility and Application of "membership" is defined: "an individual shall participate in the activities of this committee either by attending meetings on a regular basis, joining a committee{s) or volunteering at an event. Membership will be of an advisory nature. Qualifications for membership are the desire, concern, compassion, and dedication to make this a better community for the citizens of Lyon County, Nevada, and their canine companions."
So if you have volunteered for an event, been to a meeting, or even pulled w**ds at the Dog Park, you could be considered eligible to run for a position and we sure could use your input!

We hope see see many of you at the meeting on Tuesday!

It is time to nominate the Volunteer of the Year.

AS you all know, the DVDP does not run with paid county staff. All of the clean up, grounds work, p**p patrol, fence mending, w**d pulling, glass clean up, wasp nest removal, sweeping, raking, water jug filling, and dog toy gathering/cleaning is done by all of us who want to have a nice place to bring our dogs for some social time.

We have events - like clean up days, Dayton Valley Days, Wine Walks, Howl-O-Ween, and even get Rattled that have required some extra help - and from a Board of Directors and Committees viewpoint, we see a lot of people helping in a LOT of different ways that the average park patron has no idea is happening behind the scenes.
From grant writing and dog sign creation to spending time on the phone getting quotes to get projects done for the park, the time commitment for the park can be intense.
But there is a ton of help that we don't see that is so valuable too. So we want to hear from the folks who are at the park all the time and see the efforts of the patrons as a whole. Who are those nameless people who pick up broken bottles every day and make our park safer for the dogs? Who fills those water jugs every morning (when the water is on) and makes sure the jugs are clean? Who is doing daily p**p patrol? Who is gathering the dog toys at the end of the day?
This is your chance to be heard.
So here is how this will work. TO be considered, we need EITHER a PRIVATE MESSAGE in Facebook or an email that tells us who you nominate (and it is ok to nominate yourself) and why. Full name would be extremely helpful, as we all know there may be multiple people named Mary.

Nominations will be taken from now through Monday, December 9th.
The Board of Directors will then vote from the top 3 nominated to determine the single Volunteer of the Year.
The Volunteer of the Year will be announced at the Holiday Tree Lighting on December 14th.

Couple of changes to the schedule coming up - and also an announcement of DVDP Board of Directors Position Elections.

First -
We have some changes to the December Event Schedule. Here are the NEW DATES/TIMES:
DVDP Park Clean Up - Saturday December 14th - 9am - 12pm
DVDP Holiday Tree Lighting - Sunday December 15th - Dusk

Second -
In accordance with the By-Laws of the Board of Directors for the Dayton Valley Dog Park, we'd like to announce the following positions of the Board of Directors as open for candidacy and election for one-year terms beginning January 14, 2025. Elections to be held at the DVDP Board of Directors General Membership Meeting December 10th at 6pm - location TBD.

Secretary
Treasurer
Member-At-Large

Also to be decided at this meeting will be new Chairs for the following Committees:

Maintenance
Events/Fundraising
Rules & Regulations
Media / Public Relations
Grants
Volunteers

If you would like to be a candidate for one of the above mentioned Board of Director positions or would like to volunteer to serve as a Chair of one of the Committees, please send us a message so we can get you the information you need (like the time commitment and duties of each position) - and please plan on attending the Board Meeting on December 10th.

Please join us!

Lots to get done and we'll have water and soda available for volunteers.

BE AWARE! THE DOG PARK WILL BE CLOSED FOR DOGS DURING THAT TIME UNLESS YOU ARE HELPING WITH THE CLEAN UP.
The faster we get things cleaned, the faster we can get the park opened back up.
I know it's getting colder - so let's get things done quick!

Today is the day!

We are sooo excited to see all the dressed up dogs and people at our first annual Howl-O-Ween event at the Dayton Valley Dog Park!

Starts at 4pm - where you can sign up to be in our Costume Contest (with prizes for Best Dressed Dog and Best Owner/Dog Look-A-Like). Contest begins at 4:30, so get there at 4:00pm to sign up!

Then hit the Sagebrush Trails with your leashed dogs - which serves as our Trick or Dog Treat Trail with stops for dog and people treats.

Afterwards, join all your costumed dog and people friends in the mixed dog area for free apple cider/soda/water while you check out our small (but provided with love) Bake Sale.

The weather looks PERFECT for this afternoon's activities - so we are hoping to see a LOT of you!

Lots happening this week!

First - we want to remind you to join us on Wednesday, October 23rd - 6pm at the Riverside Veterinary Hospital for a presentation and discussion with Certified Animal Behavior Consultant Kelley Bollen. The topics of discussion will include: Understanding Dog Body Language, Spotting and Stopping Dog Fights Before They Happen, Safely Breaking Up Dog Fights, and Other Forms of Enrichment Beyond the Dog Park. This is a free event and you do not need to RSVP to attend - but come early - as space will fill.

Next - it's time to get yourself and your canine buddies costumed up and out to the DVDP on Sunday, October 27th at 4pm for our FIRST annual Howl-O-Ween event. Festivities will include a Costume Contest - with prizes for Best overall Canine Costume and Best Dog/Owner Look Alike. Then, hit the Sagebrush Trail in the large dog area with your leashed dog for a Trick or Dog Treat walk, complete with stops where people treats and dog treats will be provided. Lastly, mingle with all your dog park friends and enjoy free apple cider while you peruse our Bake Sale of goodies for both humans and dogs alike. A suggested donation to the DVDP of $10.00 will also get you and your dog into the costume contest and a free goody from the bake sale. Even if you decide not to dress up, come on out for the Trick or Dog Treat Trail and Bake Sale!!! This event will happen rain or shine - but not snow or shine. ;)
