Serenity Valley Farm: Equine Education and Training Center

Serenity Valley Farm: Equine Education and Training Center Located just west of Dayton, Ohio, SVF is a new equestrian education facility.
(10)

SVF's goal is to become a top notch Equestrian Education facility with plans to host a variety of schooling shows and clinics throughout the year, as well as be able to offer a training facility for both a limited number of boarders as well as haul in clientele. While our passions run towards the english disciplines of dressage and eventing, we hope equestrians of all disciplines can find the educational opportunities they need at SVF in the future.

Not sure what I'm feeling this morning.

Relief - maybe. we set up for 7 horse shows this year, ran 5. It was a LONG season.
Pain - well, yeah. Have a slightly swollen knee. Not sure what I did, but I felt it yesterday and can see it today. Building a barn on a hill... beautiful views and all, but that hill gets bigger and bigger as the day goes on!
Gratefulness - absolutely! I have the BEST crew, the most generous and wonderful judges, and the most fantabulous competitors (and their families!). The farm is rarely a mess after competitions no matter how big, and having people jump in to help even in small ways is SO appreciated! And the kind words and we hear throughout the day really help us keep going!
Regret - not really, except for one -- that I get so busy and involved in running the show that I never end up taking pictures! PLEASE share any pics you took.

Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the chilly but GORGEOUS weather (this time) with us! SPECIAL shout out to everyone who participated with costumes! I loved EVERY ONE OF THEM!!! I sincerely hope you had a great time!

Riders in Ring 1 with ride times after lunch... there may be a slight change to your times. Please consult the list attached to this post.
This includes the last part of Training 1 SR (though it shouldn't affect you), Training 2, Training 3, all First level, and Western Basic and Level 1. Not a big change and it may not affect everyone, but please be aware.

RIDE TIMES!!! Let me know ASAP if there is a problem with your times.

Items to remember:
1. Costumes -- Contest is free and open to all riders. it will take place during the extended lunch break -- roughly 12:30 in the front pasture (in front of the old barn, next to the parking area -- because I love to see cars slow down and watch!). May be mounted or unmounted (helmets required if mounted, no exceptions). Goodies for all with several "prizes". Even if we have your name, please be sure and sign up at the secretary as it includes where you can tell us what your costume is so we know for sure. Safe costumes may be worn for your rides. Do be considerate of others with horses who may not be used to seeing a dragon or an oompa-loompa in warm up. 😜👻

2) We will be running 2 rings. Both start at 9am. The small ring (near the barn) will be going until about 2pm. This means that the wash rack is off limits while horses are competing in Ring 2 (the small one). And to access Ring 1, you'll need to go around the barn. Ring 1 warm up will be the sand next to the ring... Ring 2 warm up will be the front field (where the costume contest will be held).

3) Remember parking for all except SVF boarders, show volunteers and staff, and disabled is in the parking field with the trailers. Only those listed in the previous sentence should be pulling into the driveway. If you haven't been here before, entrance to the parking field is directly off Union Road, just north (towards Highway 35) of the driveway.

4) No dogs please. If you have a(n honest to god) service dog, please let me know ahead of time.

5) We will have concessions... just not sure what yet.

6) I have several items that I have for sale... blankets, pads, horse boots, breeches, etc. Take a look and make me an offer. :)

7) while we do our best to have ring stewards directing folks, remember it is your responsibility to know when you ride and be on time (ride time = time you should be ready to ride down the center line).

Our judges this weekend will be Jeri Matheny (KY) and Laura Beaver (OH). Will update this week if needed.

Please see the attached Entry List. Let me know ASAP if your classes are listed incorrectly as I'm starting to put together the time schedule (a giant puzzle!!). We also would like to know as soon as possible if you intend to participate in the Costume Contest which will take place at the lunch break (approx 12:30) so we can make sure to have enough swag and prizes for everyone. I also need to know but not as urgent if your horse is TIP registered (remember registration number is FREE!!) as we do have TIP awards to give out. Then of course, please note the NOTES column... especially if any items are outstanding for entry. Signatures and Coggins can be handled when you check in, but remember signatures for junior riders need to be a guardian.

So far it looks to be a beautiful weekend! I will have the ride times no later than Wednesday next week, but I can say that we will start at 9am, we are running 2 rings at least for the morning.

As always, any questions just ask!

Not sure my brain is quite recovered, but didn't want to wait any longer to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the rescheduled Hunter show on Saturday. It's always a crap-shoot when you reschedule a show since so many people have their season/weekends planned in advance. This time we had a good turnout and GREAT weather! Hope everyone enjoyed themselves! Shout out to Brenna, Andy, Randy, Maddie, Emery, Sande, Shelby, and everyone who jumped in to help change courses or pick up rails! We can't do this without you and you are SO appreciated!!

There's 1 more hunter show in the DLSC season (this coming Sunday at Sunnybrook Training Center in Troy) and the final dressage show is here on the 26th (rescheduled due to hurricane Helene last month). More details will be coming soon re: entry status, ride times, etc. We are full and appreciate all the entries!

Couple of things on this post:
1) Entry list - please take a look and see if anything is needed for your entry.
-- Need Coggins - need to see a copy of a valid coggins.
-- Need Signature - due to the liability release, everyone must have an actual entry form with signature on file. Feel free to bring one with you, or sign at check in. NOTE: for Junior riders, signature must be from parent or guardian.

2) Time Schedule
It's a little wonky once we hit Class 14 (Green - 18"). I believe warm up rounds should actually help warm up the horse and waiting for 60-90 minutes between warm up and actually showing is a little counterproductive. So I've split the warm ups for class 14 and 21 to better help horses & riders prepare for their classes. Riders included in each warm up ARE listed by last name. If you have any questions on it, please ask.
-- for our Medal competitors, please note the time schedule for your jump and flat classes.

**** We will be trying to move efficiently through the day due to the number of rides we have and our rapidly diminishing daylight hours (cry). Please note the following:

1- no courtesy circles for classes 1-13 (ground poles and crossrails). Due to where the in gate and first fence are you may need to do a circle to properly approach the fence, but otherwise, please do not do them. However, you must still be at a walk to enter or leave the arena for safety reasons if not according to rules. Once we hit canter classes, if you feel the need to circle to get a good quality canter prior to your first fence, that is fine.

2- The time schedule is best guess (though given the last 4 years of doing schedules for these shows, it's probably not too far off). It is the rider's responsibility to be where they need to be on time. We will NOT be holding the arena for riders who are not present at the in gate when their class is called. There will be no refunds for missed classes. We will attempt everything we can to keep everyone up to date on where we are on the schedule.

Any questions? 😁 Can't wait to see everyone (especially when none of us should be melting like we were in June!!)

10/08/2024

As posted this morning, we are not taking any more entries. That said, we do have a wait list, so if anyone does need to scratch, please let me know as soon as you make the decision. We may be able to fill your spot which means you would get a refund.

We're going to plan on starting at 8:30 on Saturday. Stay tuned for more updates this week, including a tentative schedule and an entry list (with what may be needed) probably Wednesday.

Update for Saturday's Hunter show:
we will NOT be taking day of entries. The ONLY exception to this rule will be for anyone who is wanting to do a leadline class. But I would appreciate a heads up that you might be coming.

For those couple people that we have their entry but not their money (planned to pay day of or just didn't get the money in yet), your entries are accepted. No worries. Come have fun. :)

We will be running a single ring and while no classes are huge and need to be split, I'm always of the opinion that doing a warm up class and having to wait an hour to do your actual class is a little counterproductive... so for Green and Beginner Warm Up (classes 14 and 21) expect them to be split into pieces and scheduled so they make sense. A tentative time schedule will be out later in the week.

We expect at this point to start at 9am... but there is a slight chance of starting at 8:30 (don't think any earlier would be fair given the sunlight situation this late in the year).

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

We have a judge!! Will be looking to find a 2nd, but I'm not as concerned on that. :) SO...

The cancelled September 28 dressage show is officially rescheduled for October 26.

Sunday, October 13 is the new closing date. If you are/were signed up and will not be able to make the new date, let me know by the 13th that you will need a refund. If you weren't signed up for the show in September and would now like to participate, your entry - WITH FEES - is due by the 13th.

We will still be doing the costume contest at lunchtime, with safe costumes being allowed during tests (helmets required for all riding).
