Last evening, our team gathered at a local park to enjoy delicious food and great company. We work with an awesome group of people and appreciate their dedication and commitment for our patients' care. It was an honor to celebrate with Kendra who has been with us for 15 years; Dr. Herr who has been with us for 12 years; Manette who has been with us for 10 years; and Maggie and Hannah who have been with us for five years! These ladies will soon be drifting through the sky in a hot air balloon! ๐ŸŽˆ When you see them, please take a moment to thank them as well as all our staff members for all they do! They are amazing and fun to work with!

Congratulations to Sydney on completing her externship at our clinic. Kendra, Hannah and Molly were fabulous mentors for her this summer. Sydney will begin her final year at BRCC next week but she will still be with us on Fridays and Saturdays. We will miss seeing her every day! Good luck, Sydney! You're going to be a fantastic technician! ๐ŸŒป

BBQ season is upon us! Here are a few common BBQ hazards to avoid:

1. Corn cobs โ€“ These are a common cause of intestinal blockage in dogs and must be kept out of reach. Corn kernels that are unseasoned and removed from the cob are safe for dogs.

2. Wooden skewers โ€“ Dogs may try to eat skewers with any food on them. If ingested, skewers can pierce through the esophagus, stomach, or intestines, causing serious consequences.

3. Grease and meat drippings โ€“ If grease spills on gravel or loose wood, dogs may lick or eat foreign material, causing an obstruction. Make sure you clean up any spills with the garden hose.

4. Meat with bones โ€“ If cooked bones are ingested, the risks are splintering, choking, intestinal blockage, or mouth/tooth injury and should not be given to dogs.

5. Fatty foods - Any foods high in fat can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and pancreatitis in dogs and should be avoided.

6. Loose garbage - Keep garbage secured with a lid that dogs cannot get into. Keep table scraps out of reach. If ingested can cause an obstruction.

7. Foil or plastic wrap โ€“ These have remnants of food on them and smell good to dogs. To prevent accidental ingestion, promptly dispose of used foil with food on it.

By avoiding these common hazards, you and your dog can have a safe and fun BBQ season. Enjoy!
