Check out our Moon Sea Jellies, (Aurelia aurita)! Moon Jellies are native to the estuaries and harbors of the North, Black, Baltic, and Caspian Seas and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, (so practically everywhere except Antarctica!). Fully grown, these Jellies can be 10-16 inches wide. Moon Jellies differ from other jellies as they lack long, stinging tentacles, and instead have hundreds of short, fine tentacles whose sting has no effect on humans. They also do not have any respiratory organs, such as gills, lungs, or a trachea, instead they “breathe” by diffusing oxygen from water through the thin membrane covering its body. Moon Jellies are almost entirely translucent, and look similar to plastic bags that unfortunately litter our ocean. Thousands of turtles and birds die each year after swallowing these indigestible wads of plastic mistaken for jellies. You can help clean up our oceans by reducing the amount of single-use plastics you consume.

Celebrate our 1 year anniversary with some Rainforest Friends at the Daytona Aquarium and Rainforest Adventure on February 23rd! There will be a few different ways to meet a sloth on Super Sloth Sunday. While all of our guests will be able to see a sloth, by purchasing a special event ticket, you get an up-close and personal educational program with two toed sloths and other rainforest animals and the opportunity to take photos and have a more personalized experience with the animals!

-The Sloth Meet & Greet will be an opportunity to see a two-toed sloth and take a quick selfie next to it.
-The Educational Presentations will be held in our education room. These shows are first come first serve and require visitors to purchase an $8 ticket upon check in at the admission counter or pre-purchase one through our website. These Educational Presentations will occur throughout the day and offer, not only a Sloth Meet and Greet, but an exclusive sneak preview of some of the animals that will be joining us when the rainforest opens. The Education room maximum capacity is 220 visitors.
-Although visitors will be very close to the sloths, there will not be a touch portion of the experience to keep the sloths comfortable and happy. Our number one goal is to keep all animals in our care safe, comfortable and content.
