Open Paw is a manners and skills training program for shelter pets so those animals more easily adapt to their homes when adopted. For dogs, the program includes three potty walks and a one-on-one structured lesson each day. We teach skills like being calm, leash walking, and basic obedience. Usually, with 200 adult dogs in care, our staff can only accomplish this rigorous program with some dogs each day. In addition to our amazing volunteers, we are developing partnerships across the community to enlist support where more people and businesses are helping. We are thrilled to partner with Run-N-Paw mobile dog gym, which will be onsite at Halifax Humane Society, Inc. weekly to help exercise our large-breed high-energy dogs.
Have a teenager who has been begging you for dog? Well, Shadow may be your answer. Shadow met people of all sizes at Petsmart this weekend. His favorite it seems to be tweens to teens.
This 4 year old boy came to Halifax Humane Society, Inc. after his owners could not find a place that allowed Shadow to come with them.
Shadow greets our Summer camp kids well and his previous owner reported he did well with dogs of people he visited.
His previous owner has told us Shadow loves water and fetching a ball and lived with a female cat..
If Shadow sounds like a good fit for your family, please meet him at 2364 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL.

We can all be a positive part in the next chapter for each shelter animals rescue story!
Revan's owners told us he is a BoxerBull. We just think he is AdoraBull 😏
This 1 year old guy lived with other dogs, small children and adults.
His owners said he is goofball who listens well and just wants cuddles.
His owners were relocating and Revan was not able to make the trip with them.
We don't put this out there to fault his owners, we weren't in their shoes. We tell you this because Revan's owners did what they thought was best for him in the situation they were in. They made sure Revan kept his name, gave us valuable insight about a home he would be successful in and raised a really good dog.
So instead of focusing on how Revan got to the shelter, let's focus on how we come together to get him out. Share Revan, Come Foster Revan, Take Revan out on K9 to 5. Help Revan find the next chapter in his rescue story.
Together we can make a positive impact in the lives of our community members, those with two and four legs. Help us, help them.

🔊Attention all kitten lovers! 🐾🐱It's that time of the year again - kitten season has arrived, and we at Halifax Humane Society are in need of your help. Every day, we receive litters of neonate kittens, and we're reaching out to our compassionate community for support during this time. We understand that not everyone can commit to adopting a pet, but if you have a few weeks to spare and a big heart, we urge you to consider fostering a kitten. It's an immensely rewarding experience to offer love and care to these precious little lives until they're ready to find their loving homes. If fostering a kitten isn't an option for you, we also have dogs and puppies that need loving foster homes. By becoming a foster parent, you'll be helping us fight against animal overpopulation and giving these animals a chance at a happy life. Thank you for considering our plea for help. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these animals and their journey towards finding their loving homes. It breaks our heart to see Lillie living in the shelter. It's unfortunate that she was recently returned due to her energy level not fitting with the adopter's lifestyle. However, this doesn't mean that she won't eventually find the perfect match for her unique personality and energy level. She is such a darling and deserves a loving home. Her affectionate nature and friendly behavior with other dogs in the playgroup is truly heartwarming. We have noticed that Lillie is a water baby and loves to play as long as it includes water. We hope that she finds a home soon, where she can receive all the love and attention she deserves.❤️🐾
Let's all take a moment to wish Maybelline, our little party animal, a very happy birthday. Despite hitting the milestone of turning two years old recently, Maybelline had to spend her special day in a shelter. However, our staff made sure to shower her with love, fun, joy, and goodies to make the occasion as special as possible. Maybelline has become a staff favorite due to her undeniable cuteness, sweet and loyal nature, and her ability to win the hearts of everyone she meets. Her unique markings, the smile she wears after playing in the yard, and her frog like laying position make her all the more lovable. We can only hope that she finds her forever home soon, where she can bring joy and happiness to her new family every day. Make sure to visit the shelter and ask for Maybelline. You won't be disappointed when you see how cute she is in person! 🎉🐾🎁
Everyone, meet Zena - an adorable little girl who was found as a stray. She is a medium breed mix with only three legs, which makes her quite unique. When she was brought to us, she was in good health and had a collar. Moreover, she had undergone a leg amputation surgery, which suggests that someone had cared for her. We need your help to find Zena's home! ❤️🐾
Willow is a dog that was at the shelter. During our "Home for the Holidays" foster program, she was taken in by a wonderful foster family. Initially, they planned to have her only for the holidays. However, they couldn't bear the thought of returning her to the kennel environment. So, they decided to foster Willow until she finds her forever home.
A wonderful bio from Willow’s foster: Willow is an adorable and well-behaved dog. She responds well to her name and is completely potty trained and crate trained. She never has accidents in the house and always signals when she needs to go outside. Willow is friendly and gets along well with our other huskies. She enjoys spending time outdoors and is very active. She loves playing fetch, chasing squirrels and lizards, but we're not sure how she would be with cats. Willow is affectionate and enjoys cuddling with people. She also likes to communicate, and when she does, she sounds like Chewbacca. Please consider adding Willow to your family. You won't be disappointed.
If you're interested in meeting Willow, please get in touch with [email protected]. They can help you arrange a meet-and-greet with this wonderful girl. We are in desperate need of more foster families, like Willow’s, to provide love and care for these babies while they wait for their new homes. If you or someone you know is interested in fostering a pet until it gets adopted, please feel free to contact us via the email provided above. We would be happy to provide you with more information on our foster program. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Ooby Dooby 🐾
Meet this fun, cute, quirky dude named Dooby! He is 5 years old and weighs around 64 pounds. Unfortunately, Dooby has been with us for 232 days sadly without having even one meet and greet. 😩 We hope that this weekend will be his lucky weekend to find a loving home. Dooby knows how to sit, lie down, and walks well on a leash. He loves getting all the attention, so he would need to be the only pet in the home. Dooby also loves playing with toys and he absolutely loves soccer, although he's not too keen on passing the ball. We love watching him entertain himself though. 🤣
Dooby is struggling inside his kennel. Staff have been working with him to improve his leash manners when taking him out of the kennel and he's gotten better with the hard work from the staff and time. If you decide to adopt Dooby this weekend, we'll offer you four free weeks of training with GoodPup and his adoption fee is waived since he has been here over 200 days!
If you are interested in seeing Dooby today please ask for Olivia she knows this boy in and out and can help answer any of your questions. Hope to see you this weekend, remember ask for Dooby! 🐾❤️
Meet Phoebe, a peppy, happy-go-lucky and fun-loving girl who came to us as an owner surrender. Initially, Phoebe was terrified and would bark at everyone she came in contact with. However, she has come a long way since then! She still has some shyness behind the kennel door but we are working quiet calm kennel routines with her and she is getting better everyday!
We placed her in a playgroup where she was nervous of the other dogs but did well. Phoebe is a worried baby and needs someone who can show her that this world is not as scary as she thinks. You can come and see her this weekend, and we are confident that you will not regret it. Adoption fees are only $14 right now! We hope to see you this weekend and ask for Phoebe! 🐾❤️
Playgroups! 🐕🐾
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude, once again, to Dogs Playing for Life. The guidance and information that Aaron and Dawn provided us with was beyond valuable and we truly appreciated it. We were sad to see them go.
Last week, we managed to get 147 dogs into play groups, which is a great achievement for us. The largest group we had was of 14 dogs in a yard, and we were proud of our staff and volunteers who took charge and ran the play groups efficiently. We aim to ensure that every dog gets out to play every day. If you are interested in volunteering to help with playgroups, please send an email to [email protected].
Happy Tuesday! 🐾🎉
We wanted to express our gratitude once again to Dogs Playing for Life for providing playgroup training to our staff and volunteers. Within a day and a half, we were able to organize playtime for 45 dogs in our facility so far, giving them the opportunity to socialize with one another and have some fun. It is a great opportunity for us to better understand the animals in our care and provide them with a chance to relieve their frustration of being confined to a kennel. We can't wait to see what the next five days have in store! Look out for more enjoyable posts of our dogs having a great time!🐾🐶❤️
Adoption Updates! 🐾❤️
Hello and Happy Saturday from Halifax Humane Society! It's a bit chilly outside today, so we thought we'd share a heartwarming video with you all. The video features some of our past animals who are now living their best lives in their new homes.
While working in the animal welfare field, we often encounter challenging situations such as seeing animals stressed in their kennels, scared, hurt, or being surrendered by their owners and the pet not understanding why. However, hearing updates from adopters and seeing the animals happy in their new homes is what motivates us to keep going. We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has adopted an animal from us and shared their adoption story with us.
We love and miss each and every animal that leaves our doors, but we are happy to know they are now safe and loved. Thank you for choosing to adopt an animal and giving them a second chance at life. We couldn't keep our doors open without the community's support and dedication towards these animals so THANK YOU! ❤️🐾🐶🐱

Your warmth has left an enduring mark on countless lives, and for that, we’re forever grateful.
Your generous contributions have transformed into life-changing medical care, spaying/neutering initiatives, and heartwarming enrichment programs. Each act of kindness has rippled through our shelter, creating a haven of love and care. ❤️
As we step into the new year, let’s carry forward this spirit of community and kindness. Your continued support is the heartbeat of HHS, and we’re excited for the stories we’ll create together in 2024.

On our 12th day of “12 Days of Strays,” we are excited to introduce to you all our fun-loving girl Harley. She has been at the shelter for over 9 months and really wants a home this holiday!
My name is Harley, and I was brought into the shelter as a stray. I am a fun and silly girl who loves to play in the yard. The staff says that I need to work on walking on the leash, but I am improving every day. I am excellent at catch, as you can see in my video. I sit really pretty as well when I am asked to. Despite being four years old, I am still a total puppy. I weigh 41lbs. Please consider opening your heart and home to me!
If you are interested in meeting Harley or any of our other adoptable dogs, please visit the Halifax Humane Society this week between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. We would be delighted to give you a tour. If you are unable to adopt or foster a pet this holiday season, please consider making a donation to assist dogs like Harley in their quest to find a new home.

Happy holidays to everyone and their furry friends!🐶🐾🐱
Today, on our 11th day of our “12 Days of Strays,” I want to introduce you to Boomer, a 4-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix who weighs 61 pounds. Boomer has been with us for about 7 months.
I came to the shelter as a stray back in October 2021, and unfortunately, no one ever came to claim me. I was later adopted but had to be returned due to landlord issues. However, during that time, I got to live with another dog, and I loved it!
I'm a pretty energetic pup and would benefit most from an owner with an active lifestyle. I was heartworm positive last year, but I have since been treated and am now negative. I'm known as a "wiggle-butt pittie," so beware of my tail! If you're interested in meeting me, please ask a staff member to take me out.
Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays to everyone! The shelter will be open again on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, and you can come meet me and other sweet babies available for foster or adoption. Please consider opening your heart and home to a rescue animal - you won't regret it! 🐾🐶🎄
My name is Maybelline and I was brought in as a stray in January. Today, on the 10th day of our "12 Days of Strays," I'm excited to introduce myself to you.
I've been at the shelter for almost a year now, and not sure why. I'm a playful girl and SUPER sweet! I love treats and learning new things, so training me should be easy. I'm a great jumper and runner, and would be perfect for agility. I also love water and enjoy swimming. I would do best in a home with a large yard where I can show off my skills. I love attention, so I would be happiest as the only pet in the home.
If you're interested in meeting me or any other dogs, please visit Halifax Humane Society located at 2364 LPGA Blvd Daytona Beach FL 32124. We can’t wait to meet you! 🐾🐶
