Part of the BSK crew went to our first Philadelphia KC National Dog Show weekend and had a wonderful time with old friends as part of the CBR supported entry and our GWP breeder, as well as making many new friends/acquaintances in this crazy (wonderful) dog show world!!! And the BSK representatives were a big hit with the public, enjoying the attention and affection.

The Barrel Select crew had to divide and conquer this weekend between hunt tests on Long Island and breed shows at the Big E in Massachusetts.

Pending AKC confirmation, we are pleased to announce a new Champion and two new Junior Hunters…

New Champion, CH Barrel Select’s Free Flowing RN, S**o (SHR Barrel Select’s Coastal Redwood JH x GCH Next Generations Cost Of Living JH NA NAJ) went BOB both Saturday and Sunday from the classes for his last 2 majors over a very nice special. S**o is co-owned with VeeAnn and Steven Cross.

Sister Ziva, Barrel Select’s American Sniper JH, went WB on Saturday for her first points in the breed ring.

Two new Junior Hunters and littermates, CH Barrel Select’s American Hero JH “Rip” and Barrel Select’s American Eagle JH “Talon” (SHR Barrel Select’s Coastal Redwood JH x CH NGD-Spinnaker's Gooseberry JH). Rip is co-owned with Thomas Nevins, Jr.

Thank you to all the judges and clubs for putting on these events. And additional congrats to Annie Henshaw for her 3pt major taking BOS today with Robbie!

Part of the Barrel Select crew took a trip to Long Island this weekend, congrats to Rip and Ziva on going 2 for 2 this weekend at their Junior Hunt Test, and thanks to LIRFTC for putting a nice double hunt test weekend. Pending AKC confirmation, Ziva, Barrel Select’s American Sniper JH has just earned her Junior Hunt Title at 11 months, and CH Barrel Select’s American Hero, RIP is half way there.

We're back from the 2024 Chessie Nationals in Ohio and what a fun trip despite the heat! We're proud of how all the dogs performed, especially the youngsters. Here are some of the highlights:

Rip, CH Barrel Select's American Hero, made the 2nd cut in BOB at only two years of age.

S**o, Barrel Selects Free Flowing RN, 1st in 9-12 Puppy Sweeps, 2nd in 9-12 Bred By Exhibitor, 3rd in Rally Novice B, earning him the Triple Crown Versatility Award - Go S**o!

Ziva (littermate to S**o, Barrel Select’s American Sniper), 2nd in 9-12 Puppy Bi***es.

Derby, HRCH Sandbar's Barrel Select's Sweet Bourbon SH CD WDQ, 1st in Veteran Bi***es 10 years+.

Livee (GCH Next Generations Cost of Living JH NA NAJ) competed in agility, rally, obedience, and the breed ring adding a Rally Novice leg and a Novice Obedience leg to her accomplishments. No love in the breed ring, but we couldn't be happier with how she showed.

All in all, a very successful week and it was great to meet up with so many new and old friends that we don't see often enough!

It is with a heavy heart that we have had to say goodbye to Big RED, HR CH Whiskey Creek’s Barrel Select Bordeaux, CD RN JH WDQ (12/04/09 - 08/16/24) As much as we don’t want this to be a sorrowful post, but one to celebrate an amazing soul, we find it difficult to represent all that it took to let Big RED go over the rainbow bridge. We feel there is a Big RED shaped hole left in our hearts, that will never be replaced, but we do know he is in a better place, chasing down ducks and geese, swimming, and chasing the ‘ladies’.

When we started this journey over 15 years ago, in search of a foundation stud, we were so fortunate to find a Molson son (BIS NBISS GCHB* Sandbar’s Stock Exxchange, bred and owned by Diane Baker) as our foundation. Like his sire, Big RED was a gentleman throughout his life and his impact was far greater than just the offspring he produced. The mentorships and friendships Big RED facilitated will be something we are forever grateful for.

Big RED raised every one of our Barrel Select litters and was the BEST puppy role model we could have ever asked for. He knew exactly when to revoke the puppy license, be it at a young age for bratty pushy puppies or later to bolster the confidence of a more timid puppy, he ruled the house with a calm and confidence that will be incredibly difficult to match.

As much as he will be missed, Big RED’s life will be celebrated and cherished, this first hunting season without him will be difficult, but RED’s pond will definitely be hunted on opening day in his memory.

We had a fun weekend at the Inaugural NSDTR Club AKC Hunt Test in Simsbury, CT last week despite some crazy weather. Livee (age 4) came home with her first SH pass and both Talon (age 2) and Ziva (10 months) got two JH passes and made it look easy. Thank you to all the judges and workers who came out in the heat so that we could play. And a big thank you to photographer Jeremy Kezer for taking such wonderful photos! We're having a lot of fun with these youngsters, looking forward to the next tests.

Envy had a nice weekend at the June Strawberry Cluster in Brooklyn CT for 2 BOWs for her last set of points (and a few extra) She finished her Champion with 3 majors and is really coming into her own at only 15 months old.

Not a bad end to the Ladies Dog Club weekend n Wrentham, MA…

The CBRs performed well…Terranova’s Barrel Select Angels Envy “Envy” went BOW today for a 3pt major and Barrel Select’s Free Flowing “S**o” went winners dog and BOS. Thank you to breed judge Ms. Mary C. Murphy.

Whiskey, the GWP (“the bearded chessie”) Ripsnorter’s Barrel Select Whiskey Sour, JH JHR, ended the weekend with an O-H Sporting Group #4. Thank you to O-H group judge Dr. Steven Keating for the placement. We couldn’t be happier with the way Whiskey is maturing and really coming into his own. He’s really starting to understand the “game” and presenting himself well.

Barrel Select Kennels had a wonderful day at the sporting group show today in Wrentham, thank you to the NESGA for another great double show event, one of our favorites each year!

We are excited for our GWP, Ripsnorter’s Barrel Select Whiskey Sour JH JHR for winning the Owner-Handled sporting group, Whiskey did a great job today. Thank you to our breed and O-H judge, Ms. Donna O'Connell.

Also, not to be out done, our CBR girl Envy, Terranova’s Barrel Select Angels Envy, went BOS and BOW out of the chessie 12 & under 15 months today for her second major! Thank you to JM Coccia for helping us out this weekend and handling our girl to this win!

Barrel Select had a busy weekend in Brooklyn, CT this weekend.

Barrel Select’s Free Flowing “S**o” went WD/BOW on Friday, Reserve WD to the major and Best of Bred By on Saturday, and WD/BOW out of the 6-12 months bred by class on Sunday for 4 points this weekend.

Terranova’s Barrel Select Angels Envy “Envy” went WB on Friday, and WB/BOW/BOBOH on Saturday for a 4PT major, for a total of 5 PTs this weekend, nice start to her show career.

Had a nice quick little hunt this morning to close out 2023 with the teenager (Talon)…she did extremely well and got 2 b...
