Babbit was born September 24th, 2006 in Lake Whales Florida. She, after a little over 2 months, was given to Dennis Turner by a guy surprisingly named Kevin. When visiting Dennis's daughter in April of 2008, I met Babbit who was staying with her because Dennis was working at a job where he had to travel around doing construction. His daughter wanted to keep her for the sake of her kids but could n
ot. The landlord of the apartment complex had it where pets where not allowed. I was sitting outside with Babbit (who at the time was named Baby) and Dennis's daughter when a guy showed up ready to pick Babbit up and take her to a home where the people wanted her. I was muddling over in my mind that I really loved Babbit as she had a very positive happy attitude and a glimmer in her eyes that showed some kind of very special spirit was in that beautiful little dog body. I just spontaneously spoke up as the guy was almost about to pick her up to carry her away and said "I'll take her." He said "did you want her? if you want her then I won't take her and you can have her." Dennis's daughter said "are you sure you will able to have her at your house?" which I was sharing with a number of people and there always was a consensus to what was allowed there for pets. I simply said that which is against my typical morals: "it is better to ask forgiveness than for permission." and from that Babbit was mine. My friend Venus picked me up and was tickled pink that I had acquired Babbit. We enjoyed the long ride home with Babbit just talking all about her. How happy Venus was for me as she knows I totally love dogs and thought Babbit was a perfect match for me as a dog companion. Venus actually thought of the name Babbit as it was a name we joked about when we used to watch cartoons together as kids (see the Looney Tunes cartoon here on Babbit's page to learn the source of the name). I thought it was perfect as babbita means baby (her original name) and thus Babbit was short for babbita (female gender) not babbito (male gender). A little bit of thought more and the middle name I came up with was Anna after my Grandma. So her full name became Babbita Anna Belna (all ending in ah ah ah, quite musical). Babbit was well on the way of being trained by Dennis. She already had very good manners, house broken and knew the trick of standing up and twirling. She always was annoyed with this skin irritation on her back when I first got her. I would scratch her back for her and it turned out I started to see I could teach her things by getting her to do it (i.e. speak) and reward her by scratching her back. The vet solved her irritation problem with monthly medicine which thank God she lives relieved with it; it is not fair for an animal to live in constant state of having to itch and affect things like their sleep. Even after the problem with her itching was solved, Babbit still enjoyed getting her back scratched as an award during her training. Some things Babbit knows how to do is stand and walk on her hind legs, point to where she itches when you ask her "where do you itch?", speak, whine, roll over, bring her paws over her face when you ask "Babbit, are you bashful?". She is now six years old and living proof that there is no such thing as not being able to teach an old dog new tricks as she continues to learn new things all the time such as "wiggling" her back end which was taught to her by Gret (her mom). Of course she knows most all the standards in discipline commands such as "sit", "stay" and "lay down" and even extends into staying in her yard and walking along side of me without a leash. Babbit is an amazing, very happy, dog who, as history has it, has never been negatively punished by Dennis, me or anyone that is in her life. She thrives on being obedient and acting as a good dog all the time. It is hard to try to take a picture of Babbit without her wagging her tail a million miles an hour. I thank God for Babbit and am truly blessed to have her. She has been a super shinning part of my life living as I am living a beautiful dream these days. All are welcome to message me sometime and arrange meeting this "one of the wonders, God's own creation" for which I can offer "no explanation" - Babbit is just unbelievably awesome!!!!! One Tribe Y'all! BTL, THT,
Kevin.
