Hello all!
Lately, we have been hearing an influx of concern about our late, cancellation, and no show policies that we have in place. So we are here to explain!
Most of the pet grooming industry is a commission based industry. What this means is that groomers get a percentage of the overall cost of the grooming of a pet— not an hourly wage.
We are also an appointment based industry, same as your doctors, dentists, and hair stylists, meaning we have set appointment times that are expected to be adhered to.
That being said, we require late fees for people showing up 15 minutes or more late for their appointment because this greatly impacts the flow of our work. There is a set process to dog grooming that the average customer is unaware of. We start with a “rough in” process where we strip hair off for the appropriate haircut and remove any matting. Then we continue on to our bathing and drying process. This is then followed by the finishing haircut, where we go over everything making sure the haircut looks beautiful. When someone is late, especially more than 15 minutes, it will then cause this process to be skewed and other dogs beauty time to be impinged upon. We charge a late fee as an inconvenience fee to the groomer that they now have to change their flow of work to accommodate someone coming late. And we understand that things happen and people run behind, which is why we do offer the 14 minute window. But you have to understand how this then affects the entire rest of the day for the groomer. Every appointment following the late appointment is affected.
As for no call/no show and cancellation fees, these are more self explanatory. If you don’t come to your appointment or you cancel within an hour of your scheduled appointment time, the groomer then is out of part of their income. We do our absolute best to fill missed appointments, but unfortunately, this is not always a possibility thus shorting the groomer. Therefore, the no call/no show and cancellation fees are in place to help discourage this from happening but also, again, to cover the inconvenience that this creates for the groomer.
We hope this helps you understand why these policies are important for us.
Thank you and have a wonderful and bright holiday season!
