Happy birthday to our Bowie buddy!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Off to go celebrate by doing his favorite thing, moving his body on a loooong walk. πŸ₯°

Do you celebrate your dog's birthday?? We're notoriously terrible at it.... Bear's birthday was a couple weeks ago and we didn't do anything special. I need ideas on how to make it up to him even though he has no idea. πŸ˜…πŸ™ƒ

Have you:
πŸ‘‰ Walked your dog today?
πŸ‘‰ Played with your dog today?
πŸ‘‰ Taught your dog something new?

If you answered no to any of these questions, it's time to get off socials and do something with your pup. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Group classes are a terrible place to start reactivity training. It's like throwing your toddler in the deep end to teach them to swim.

Start at home where life is predictable. Learn how to teach markers, leash pressure, duration work, and confidence building. Then teach those things to your dog inside. Then move outdoors and gradually add challenges as you and your pup can handle it.

Not sure where to start? We got you with our Basics Course. ☺️ Hop over to www.dogseyviewtraining.com/devonline for info and to sign up!

Mabel at Centennial Park πŸ’™πŸ’›

We're in the final days of Mabel's Board & Train stay! I'm sad, but super proud of her! She's learned a whole new set of skills from loose leash walking to the language of the e-collar!

Reuniting our B&T pups with their families is one of my favorite parts of this gig though. They're always so happy to see each other and it's just the best. πŸ₯°

If you've been considering sending your pupper to us for Board & Train like Mabel here, now is the time! We have a spot opening up this Saturday and are looking to get our very limited August and September spots reserved, so hop on over to www.dogseyeviewtraining.com/start to take your first steps towards a happier, less stressful, less chaotic life with your pup! πŸ’™

Can I get a round of applause for Mabel in the comments for being a bestest girl! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Ok, I'm done now. Can we all just tell Midge how pretty she is in the comments? 😁😁😁

It's easy to forget how far you've come with your dog. About a year and a half ago, Bear bit me. I totally lost trust in him and honestly became a little afraid of him. Not sure I ever admitted that out loud.... The relationship we took years to build was shattered. We took the pieces and started again. And baby step after baby step, we have reforged the bond we had lost. Nowadays I feel comfy hanging out with him without any tools and that's saying something! Lol. I'm super proud of him and myself. 😁 He still has a lot of issues that I'm not convinced will ever fully go away, but I'm liking the path we're on for sure. ☺️

If you're in the process of building up your relationship with your own difficult dog, know you're not alone. Be patient. Keep goin. And lean on your support system. πŸ’™ If you don't have a solid doggo support system yet, you know who to call. πŸ™ƒ

Tell us about your less than easy pup in the comments. 😁

Bear asked me to remind everyone to please leash your pups tonight and every night until the big stupid booms stop. He's super considerate like that. πŸ’™

Unless you're 110% sure that your pup doesn't care about fireworks, use a leash. And even then, better safe than sorry! Quick potty break and then back securely inside.

If you feel like you've tried everything and your dog is still terrified, send us a message and we'll get to work. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Stay safe my friend. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Ya know. It's a really good thing Corey and I have time to decide what breed we want for our next puppy. No joke, was editing this photo and thinking to myself "Cattle dogs do check a lot of boxes. Maybe we should get another one... A little red one. 😍" 🀣🀣🀣

They're the right size, grooming is pretty low maintenance, ready to do all the things....

But that energy level..... And the sass. That's what I'm not so keen on....

Talk me out of it. Please. 🫠🫠🫠

Photo dump! What a week! We're so proud of our client puppers!!

Ricky Bobby had a fab second week of his Day Train program! We've moseyed out on walks and he's doin awesome! Still needs quite a bit of coaching, but that's to be expected for this stage of the game! We have two more weeks with him and can't wait for all the fun to come!

Miss Midge wrapped up her fourth week of Day Train yesterday and man has she made some huge strides! Her mom messaged us last night telling us that they saw some deer last night and Midge didn't have a major meltdown! She has suuuper strong prey drive and has taken off on many occasions, so her being able to keep it together like that that is a huge accomplishment!!!

Duke came for his normal Tuesday daycare and worked on more off leash e-collar practice. He's rocking it!

Remi is boarding with us until next weekend! He is quite the challenging little dude when it comes to training, but luckily he's a great snuggle buddy. 🀣πŸ₯°

Newbie Mabel arrived yesterday for 4 weeks of Board & train! Gonna do e-collar training with her and work towards off leash reliability!

And last but not least, Mr. Guiseppe joined us again this morning for boarding! Always good to see our big buddy! πŸ₯°

For updates on all of our client puppers and see what else we're up to, check out our stories Tuesdays through Saturdays for alllll the updates! 😁😁

06/26/2024

Sometimes we inadvertently give our dogs the wrong message which leads them to "make mistakes". We have to remember that dogs communicate differently than we do. They look at body language above all else with your energy being a close second. To dogs, until trained otherwise, words are just noises that add to or detract from the energy level.

A simple example that we see all the time is dogs who jump up on people. Our bodies are upright, sometimes we bring our hands up, especially folks who don't want to be jumped on, or others will crouch down to get closer to the dog. Pair this with over-excited energy, speaking with a high tone of voice, and you'll surely have a dog snoot in your face. Then once the dog starts jumping, a lot of people will get upset and blame the dog. But! The dog thinks you asked for it! And most of the time, the dog has been practicing this since they were a puppy, because back then it was cute. Now that they're full grown, not so much.

Take this idea and think about other aspects of you and your dog's relationship. How many "bad" behaviors do they practice that they thought were just how life works because humans told them so along the way?

Couple caveats:
πŸ’™ Genetics matter. There are plenty of cases where dogs "act out" simply because is baked into who they are. In these cases, it's up to us to make sure our dogs are safe from their impulses and teach them to control themselves which can take a lot of time and practice.
πŸ’™ It's not your fault. More than likely, if you're reading this post, you either brought a dog into your life and inherited these fun opportunities for growth, or you didn't realize you were creating a problem to begin with. Either way, my intent here isn't to make you feel bad about yourself! You did what you thought was right at the time and that is all we can do! No beating yourself up on my account!

Salesy talk incoming: If you're ready to level up your ability to communicate to your dog, we have the perfect place for you to start. Our Basics Bundle is a deep dive into building your relationship with your pup from the ground up. Comment "Basics" for more info! πŸ’™

Part of the fun of getting a new puppy is learning what makes them tick!! You get to experiment to find their favorite food, toys, places, and activities.

What is equally, if not more important though, is learning to read their queues so you can know when they're uncomfortable, bored, tired, or need to p*e!

Spend the time to watch your puppy's body during your interactions. Do they look away, give you whale eye, pull away, tuck tail, or otherwise shrink down when you approach? Or do they wiggle their whole bodies and lean into you? Any tension, shrinking of the body, or looking away are all signals that your pup is uncomfortable with what is about to happen. Loose wiggles, soft eyes, and the pup coming into your space are all signs of a comfy pup ready for snuggles.

Some puppies just want to rip your skins apart with their puppy dagger teeth when they're tired. Others just turn into limp noodles. If your pup is of the overly nippy when tired variety and those needle teeth come out, you know it's time for a nap! Likely for both you and your puppy! lol.

Some puppies will be a bit more whiny, have a particular bark, or pace a bunch when they have to potty. While others don't give much warning at all. Knowing this will help you adjust their potty schedule to ensure that you don't have accidents to clean up. And remember, if your puppy has a potty accident, it's your fault, not theirs! πŸ™ƒ

If you take the time to learn what your pup is trying to tell you, then the easier life will be for you both! And if you need help, send us a message! We have in person and virtual puppy coaching available so you don't have to go through this puppy parenting thing alone! πŸ’™

Does your pup have particular signals to let you know what their thinking or feeling?

We're so very proud of Marley and Charley! πŸ₯³

Today marked the start of Marley's third week of Board & Train and Charley's second day of Day Train!

It's always fun to get to know the new pups and these two couldn't be more different personality wise.

Marley is more confident, way higher energy, and moves first, thinks later. While Charley is a tad on the insecure side and much more introverted. He's a thinker for sure. Granted, Charley is a couple months younger, so his personality is still developing. We shall see what happens as he grows into himself. 😊😊

Check out their highlight reels on our profile page to see their progress!

And if you're interested in your pup joining us for either program, send us a message or give us a call! Our spots are filling up for June and July! Now is the time to get started! 😁

We're pumped to welcome Miss Marley to our Board & Train program!

She's an exuberant young golden doodle who struggles with self control. As young dogs do!

We'll spend the next three weeks working on all of her basics and then transfer that knowledge to her humans when it's time to take her home!

Stay tuned for updates!!

It's official, springtime Bear is absolutely my favorite Bear. 😍

Couldn't get him to look at the phone to save my life this time, but we did things a little differently today so I'm not surprised! 🀣 Normally we walk downtown, but today we hopped in the van and drove.

Bear hates car rides with a passion, so we really need to continue giving him good experiences in the car to help him be more ok in there. Which means lots of sessions just getting in and out of the car, hanging out in the car, and taking short trips to enjoyable places like the little park downtown like what we did today. ☺️

He was definitely stressed by the 2 minute car ride, but after 10 minutes or so he calmed down and we got some good obedience practice in, let him sniff, and spent some time people watching too. All in all it was a fabulous outing!

Have you had any fun springtime adventures with your pup yet? If so, do tell in the comments! ☺️☺️

Good dog training can be expensive, but far less than a new couch or intestinal obstruction surgery because your puppy ate something they shouldn't have... πŸ˜…

Obviously, I'm incredibly biased, but I'd much rather invest in my canine education than have my dog go through an unnecessary surgery or replace my belongings. Even though, I really do want a new couch too......

I digress.

When you invest in good training, it's not just about your current puppy, it's about teaching you. So when you bring another dog into your life, you'll already have the skills to make that transition a success. And on top of that, when you train with awesome trainers, (like us πŸ™ƒ), we offer lifetime support so you can call, text, or email us with your questions as they pop up. Raising a puppy is a long term effort and they tend to throw plenty of curveballs, so instead of relying on scouring the web for generic advice, you can reach out to us instead. We will get to know you and your dog and be able to give targeted advice as opposed to you trialing and erroring on your own.

If you're a new puppy owner and wading through this puppy parenting thing alone, you don't have to be! Send us a message and we'll see if our program is a good fit whether it's in person or online. ☺

And if nothing else, be sure to follow along for more dog training content. πŸ’™

One super valuable thing you can teach your dog is how to remain calm with chaos around them. 🧘

This happens to be Ogun's Achilles heel. He struggles with keeping his cool when other dogs are running and playing, especially if Corey is the human in the equation. πŸ˜…

Can your pup relax when other pups are galavanting around them or do they lose their cool like Ogun? 😬

04/11/2024

Both come into play big time with your every day training, but especially when you're working on changing behaviors and even more importantly when those behaviors you want to change are driven by emotion.

It's also important to recognize that each theory does not exist in a vacuum. They play off of eachother all of the time, which makes things complicated at first glance. When you have the understanding, though, you can break down the complicated bits to make it more simple and easier to tackle.

What do you think?

Not sure who is more excited that Derby is here, us or him. 🀣🀣 He'll be staying with us for structured boarding for about a week! During his stay, we'll do touch ups with his basics, get him out for some adventures, and start playing with e collar training! 😊

One of the many awesome reasons to come train with us is that you can take advantage of our structured boarding services too!

We take stock of where each boarding pup is in the training process and plan their daily activities accordingly. Some pups spend their time close to our home, while others who are further advanced get to go on all the adventures! 😊

We only take on up to 4 pups at a time, which means plenty of 1 on 1 time with Corey and I.

We are sticklers about safety. Your pup is always supervised or in their crate to rest. Plus, I have cameras in there, so I'm constantly monitoring. πŸ™ƒ

When it comes to doggo playtime, we believe in slowwww intros and finding neutrality first. Once we see that and have good play style matches, we do allow playtime, but it is certainly not a free for all.

Your pup will be in a home environment instead of a chaotic kennel. Being away from home is stressful enough and being in a kennel environment can make it so much worse. Not at our house! We strive to have a calm environment where the pups can get quality rest. 😴

We keep good boundaries goin, but have a lot of fun too. It's all about finding that balance. 😊

Interested? Call or message us to set up your consult and get this training party started! πŸ₯³

Just don't. It's better to keep your pup on a longline or flexi and get more practice in than risk them getting hurt or hurting someone else.

Granted, we are extra paranoid since we've seen and heard the worst case scenario over and over again. We've been charged by off leash dogs more times than we can count and one instance resulted in a frenchie getting hit by a car right in front of our eyes.

We don't say these things to be the no fun police, we say them in the hopes that it can help keep dogs safe. πŸ’™

04/04/2024

Most folks wait until problems pop up before hiring a dog trainer, but there are so many things you can do to raise your wee pup right and avoid so many issues! Raising a puppy well takes a lot of work, preparation, and strategy, so if you're thinkin about adding a new pup to your life, don't wait to get a plan together! I cannot even begin to tell you how many people lament to us wishing they had started training sooner and put together a better game plan early.

Before you commit to a new puppy, figure out:
πŸ’™ Who is going to be responsible for getting your 8 week old pup out every two hours to potty (even overnight)?
πŸ’™ What do you want your dog to be able to do with you (and without you) as an adult dog?
πŸ’™ Where are safe places you can take your pup to expose them to the world?
πŸ’™ What are the rules of the house like are you going to allow your pup on the furniture?
πŸ’™ Who do you know who has safe dogs who will interact well with your pup?

These questions are just the tip of the iceberg! And your answers will dictate the decisions you make in the training process as well as what kind of puppy you should get to begin with. That's another post entirely!

Are you contemplating getting a puppy soon? How much of a puppy raising plan have you put together so far?? ☺

Mr. Handsome Duke is about a week and a half into his stay and rocking it training wise! Lol. He's one of those who is a blast to train, but doesn't like to sit still.

The goal for the rest of his time with us is to expand his walking bubble and keep on getting his mind and body movin, but also teach him to chill out when it's time to hang. The art of doing nothing is a difficult one to master, but we know he can do it!

Follow along and keep tabs on our stories for updates! And/or check out his highlights on our profile! 😊😊

03/20/2024

It’s easy for us humans to say that we want our dogs to stop pulling on leash or jumping up on our guests or barking at other dogs. But! Have you thought through what you want your dog to do in those situations instead?

Dogs will follow their instincts and do the things that they think are going to get them what they want. If they think X behavior will get them Y, they’re gonna keep on doin X so long as it works for them. We can’t fault them for that! We’re wired the same way!

In order for your dog to stop doing a behavior in any situation, you first need to decide what you want them to do. Then you must teach them that the behavior you want is the best way to get them what they want. (Important side note: You'll also need to figure out what exactly your dog wants, but that's another conversation...) If you haven’t decided what you’d like them to do, then you’re stuck with constantly telling them β€œNo” instead of leading them to a β€œYes”. That is just no fun for everyone involved.

Save this post as a great reminder for later! πŸ’™

Tell us in the comments what behaviors you’d like your dog to stop and what you want them to do instead. ☺
