The Kill Pen Rescue Project

The Kill Pen Rescue Project Saving Kill pen horses either directly from the kill buyer or the auction. Giving horses the training and love they need to not return to the kill pen.
(5)

What is a kill pen? I'm glad you asked! A kill pen is where people, including breeders, take horses they no longer want and leave them for slaughter. Kill pens are not full of lame horses. They are full of all breeds of horses. Pregnant mares, ponies, mustangs, quarter horses, thoroughbreds, Arabians, draft horses…you name it...

What do we do? We save horses either directly from the kill buyer o

r the auction. Giving horses the training and love they need to not return to the kill pen, and finding them loving forever homes. We give them a 2nd chance at life .

I am getting information on 5 horses needing homes I will list the info on 3 of them today.
Mare, 9yrs old. Green broke but is not rideable due to hip injury, no maintenance meds needed at this time. Gelding, 29 yrs old. Well broke, but not rideable due to arthritis issues. Meds are required for maintenance. contact Mitzi Maur for more info on these two.

sugar Bee is approximately 9, Vet agreed with this last fall. She’s a grade mare, probably with some thoroughbred with her looks.

I rode her twice before bringing her home and I had no issues or concerns at that time. Day 2 May 2nd at home, first ride, walked, then asked for a trot and she bucked. I hurt my shoulder. We did a lot of groundwork for a month or so and eased back into riding. Between Em and I, we were riding 3-4x’s/wk. Gaining confidence, on Oct. 5, Em had been riding and wanted me to try a barrel pattern. Sugar Bee was hot and wouldn’t stand. I should have worked her a bit to get her calm and listening. But I didn’t, went to get up, and she bucked. My knee and shoulder took a hit. I thought things would heal, but I finally looked into everything and I’m having knee surgery next month. Ugh!
Sugar hasn’t been ridden since October. I admit, some of it has been healing on my part, but I don’t know if I can overcome my nerves with her. We had been doing pretty good up to that point….. but, she is a bit spooky. She doesn’t like to stand tied, has had some freakout episodes when standing, and gets nervous with saddling. I think she needs more training than I seem to be able to do. Plus now with healing and PT, I don’t know when I’ll ride again……which just makes me sad
We took her to a vet in November, dewormed her, her teeth floated, and a clean bill of health. Possible old injury to R rear leg? But sometimes I can’t tell if it’s her R or L. I had 2 chiropractor visits for her, and little changes. No shoes, but I just had her feet done again yesterday. contact rebecca parker summers for info on sugar.

Hi, I help with the Kill Pen Rescue Project in addition to assisting horses to find homes we also fundraise for fire victims. We want to fundraise for the victims who lost animal feed in the fire if there is a need, all donations will go to registered victims. We are gauging if this is a need right now if so we will get victims' information and have a fundraiser where people can drop off or purchase feed....Please PM if you know of victims in need of animal/livestock feed because of the fire.

Anyone in the Texas fire area needing animals evacuated there are 2 trucks with trailers ready to go. Please contact Rebecca Parker Summers to arrange.

Unbelievable, I am so very grateful!! Thank you all for your generous donations and support. I am very humbled and honored ... Our goal has been met 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I have been trying to write this for about 2 weeks. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Talk about stressful!!! It is treatable. Thank God !!!
I have met with my medical team and am just waiting on surgery details and a date. They areWhich is dependent on the lymph node biopsy. Praying for radiation treatment.
You might be wondering why I would be sharing such personal information.
That's simple. Hooves Of Promise needs YOUR help.
My personal funds will be going to care for me. These are the funds I use to support our rescues.
I am asking for your help in providing for the rescue horses. The monthly expense of $1600 covers hay, grain, shavings, mineral, previcox, and msm.
I am fundraising for $3200
That will cover the current monthly care expenses for 2 months . barring any unforseen emergencies . Which will give me time to heal without the added worry and stress of supporting the rescue horses.

We are taking pledges for this mare at lewiston auction. We are tentatively looking for a home offer. We do not have the safe space available for her rehab , so if we find a home for her we would like to help pay some of the expenses through donations. We are a 501c3 platinum rated. Donations are tax deductible. We are just asking for pledges if we can find her a home we will ask for the pledges to turn into donations.

this Wednesday is the Lewiston auction. we are involved in two neglect cases at the moment and will need space for incoming horses. that being said we will look for horses at the auction that need a hail mary to be euthanized rather than live in pain. we will fundraise for that. we also may be able to take in a pregnant mare who will keep until after foaling before putting up for adoption. We feel this puts less stress on the mare and enables her to relax emotionally before foaling. we will post we are fundraising and we will post how much is needed.
