His mama is due to foal in a couple of weeks - her first foal since Murphy was born ten years ago, which is the last year we had foals born on our farm. I am SO excited!! Gidget's only breeding date was March 21, 2021, so according to the foaling calculator I use, she is due between Feb 15th and March 2nd! Hoping and praying for a healthy FILLY this time!

I haven't updated this page lately due to the fact I haven't been breeding or racing my horses recently. In August 2018, cancer took my dear husband, David, while we were living in Missouri. In August 2020, I bought a small farm in Alabama. In 2021, I decided to take baby steps getting back into racing, so only bred one mare (Define Honor) to my stallion (Oceanus), and the foal is due in February 2022. This will be my first foal in ten years! I plan to breed one mare (Carry in Excess) to Oceanus in 2022. My plans are to resume racing when this first foal is ready to run, hopefully in 2025, when it is a 3 year old. I will probably breed one mare each year going forward so I don't get overwhelmed with too many to put in training.
Thanks,
Suzanne Perdue Murphy

Silver in Excess
2009 gray mare
(Winninginexcess x So Long, by Exchange Rate)

Second race, Dec 11, 2015 (VERY green and unfit) - original trainer has been fired (she had been in his barn for 11 months, Jan 2 - Dec 1, 2015). She was moved from the Delta Downs trainer to a new trainer at Fair Grounds on Dec 1st. Looking forward to seeing what she can do once she is gate trained, used to working in company, and fit enough to go more than a half-mile.

NORTHERN DANCER & me
December 1987, Windfields Farm, Chesapeake City, MD

He is the horse that started it all for me when it comes to my passion for horse racing. I was 6 years old when I sat cross-legged in front of our black & white TV on the first Saturday in May 1964 and watched him win the Kentucky Derby. That was it! I was hooked for life! 23 years later I flew from Alabama to Maryland just to meet the great little horse, and what a treat I got in meeting him! He knew he was king. He had so much charisma, and loved all of the attention! What an honor!

DANCE THE BALLADO
April 1, 1996 - September 22, 2015
(Saint Ballado x Her Honorship, by King of the North)

It is with a very heavy heart that I report our beautiful stallion, DANCE THE BALLADO, was euthanized September 22, 2015 at the vet school due to neurological problems.

He was the sweetest stallion, with so much heart. He was a tough racehorse, a multiple stakes winner, and retired sound after 41 starts. He was equally impressive as the sire of 74% winners from starters, and many of his runners had long careers, so they must have inherited his soundness and toughness.

He was a member of our family for 6 years, and we have three promising youngsters by him that we hope will be superstar racehorses.

Two weeks ago today, I lost my Dad, and now to lose Ballado today is just overwhelming. I am numb.

My only comfort is knowing his breeder, Robert Bakerman, was waiting for Ballado when he arrived in Heaven. Mr. Bakerman loved him so much. We bought him after Mr. Bakerman's death. His widow, who was in her 80s when I spoke with her 6 years ago, sobbed on the phone when I told her we bought him and love him. She was so happy knowing he had a loving home, and said her husband would have never sold him, but after her husband died she had to disburse the horses.

EXPENSIVE HOBBY as a 2 year old in 1990 while in race training in Valdosta, GA. He shinbucked, so I brought him home and turned him out. He never raced. His sire was a stakes winner, his dam was a winner & 100% winning producer. Racing has been my lifelong dream, it took years to finally get one of my homebreds to the track, but I never gave up on my dreams!
