We've had several long-term pups find homes recently, and we have another to share! ✨Luke Bryan✨ was adopted by his foster mom after two and a half years at the shelter 🥰

Luke was really struggling at the shelter but started to improve when our trainer began working with him. He then became a part of our 🦄 Unicorn Foster Program, which finds foster placements for our long-term dogs and those who have specific needs in a future home. This helps them with their training and to prepare for an adoptive home.

And sometimes, it's also a gateway to a loving home! Luke's new mom did such an incredible job with his training, and he grew so comfortable with her that she couldn't imagine her life without him. Congrats to Luke Bryan and his new mom! 👏

❤️ We are committed to helping animals like Luke find loving homes, no matter how long it takes, how much training an animal needs, or what medical care they need along the way. Help us continue to care for cats and dogs in need, every day, every season: https://buff.ly/3SnkHrp

✨Harley✨ first arrived at PAWS Atlanta in 2021. Our team loved her sweet face and floppy ears right away! She was adopted quickly, we were so excited for her.

However, last year, Harley came back to PAWS Atlanta. Her owner became sick and could no longer care for her. We were devastated for Harley and her owner, but we were glad that she was back with us so we could find her another home. No matter how long it's been, we always take our animals back. ❤️

Harley met volunteer groups and went on outings, but for over a year she sat waiting for another shot at a loving home. However, several months ago, she found a foster family who wanted to give her a break from the shelter. And, it turns out, they didn't ever want to bring her back! After a short trial as a foster pup, Harley was adopted. 🥰

📅 365 days a year, our team cares for animals like Harley - animals who have been left behind or dealt an unfortunate hand. Sometimes our cats and dogs arrive unexpectedly, and we always need to be ready to provide them with the care they need, every day, every season.

Will you help us care for all 180 animals at PAWS Atlanta? With your support, we can give them what they need every day. ➡️ Give now: https://buff.ly/3hMeJk9

Last Friday, we hosted a volunteer group from EY for their annual EY Connect Day! They're always such a big help, and this year was no exception. 💛

They cleaned out our ENTIRE crate shed! 😱 As you can imagine, there's a lot going on in the crate shed, with crates and carriers constantly moving in and out. And despite our best efforts, it often gets a little chaotic in there. EY took everything out of the shed, tested the crates to make sure they were all safe to use, and cleaned all of them out. 👏

This was a HUGE task that would've taken our team several days to complete. We're so grateful for this team, and we can't wait to see them again next year! 🥰

If you would like to make a difference at PAWS Atlanta with your group, reach out to Sam at [email protected]. We're already scheduling for 2025!

Alyson, a new foster, picked up a her first foster buddy, Sir Lancelot. A very young, feisty 10, hr returned to PAWS a few weeks ago after his longtime human passed away. Alyson’s favorite fosters are seniors and those with special medical needs. She’s also promised updates on Sir Lancelot soon. He’s a short-term foster during our intake construction. So, if you are in love, he’ll be back in about 10 days! Put in an application and we’ll set you up to be the first to meet him.

Chop Top’s smile says it all. Happy gotcha day to this tiny boy and his new mom. She recently lost her senior dog and has been really missing the company and comfort of a dog, having had dogs all her life. The house felt too quiet. ❤️ At 5, Chop Top was looking for his own soft place to land and will happily turn up the volume for his new mom. 😂 He has LOTS to say.

Our beefy big-eared baby Cool Hand Luke has been ADOPTED!!!

Cool Hand Luke arrived at PAWS Atlanta in the spring of 2020, as part of a mission to help an Albany shelter whose staff had been hit hard by COVID, leaving them with too few healthy staffers and too many dogs in need. Volunteers from a second rescue stepped up to transport the shelter’s animals, and our team stepped up to take in as many as we could. Cool Hand Luke was an immediate standout: charming, funny, big ham with the ladies. 😂

Then… Cool Hand Luke waited… and waited… and waited for his day to come. Waiting just over FOUR years for someone to choose him.

Well, friends, we are thrilled to share the news that Luke’s people found him, and they are as wonderful as they look in these photos. The began as fosters and realized this ham is a keeper.

They recently finalized his adoption and stopped by today to tell us how wonderful he is doing and how they cannot believe such a great dog wasn’t scooped up sooner.

We are celebrating big for Cool Hand Luke and his fosters-turned-family. ❤️ If you have met Luke or followed his story, feel free to leave a comment!

That feeling when you’re matched with your first ever foster puppy. Shirley Bennett is back in a foster home, and we’re thrilled for her and her foster.

We’ve been excited about the number of new people stepping up to foster a shelter pet with PAWS Atlanta.

We can find you a dog or cat who will be a good match for you and your pets/family/lifestyle.

Visit pawsatlanta.org and fill out our foster application and tell us a little about yourself. We love to play matchmaker and we’ll provide all the supplies, food, anything you need — we just ask you to provide the TLC they need.

Rescue is a 24/7/365 endeavor. Every day, animals arrive at PAWS Atlanta needing help. Through natural disasters, illness, weekends, and holidays, our animals still need love and care.

As 2024 draws to a close, we're so grateful for everything you helped us do this year. We opened our new Isolation Unit for sick and injured animals. Our Polite PAWS dog training program launched. We rescued 14 dogs from the chemical disaster in Rockdale County. Nearly 650 animals have found homes!

Looking to 2025, we'll continue to need your support. More animals will be left at our gate. More cats and dogs will need emergency surgery. Every day, every season, vulnerable animals will need food and shelter.

❤️ Will you show that you're here for our animals 365 days a year?

Now through December 31, your financial gift goes twice as far. Thanks to a generous matching gift from donor Kathy Scott, your donation will be matched up to $40K. Give now to double your impact for cats and dogs in need: https://buff.ly/3hMeJk9

🐷 PIGGY UPDATE TIME! Piggy, as you probably know, is one of our long-term residents. She's been at PAWS Atlanta for over 3 years, and she had never had a break from shelter life until earlier this year when she became part of our Unicorn Foster Program!

Piggy has been living the dream in her foster home these past few months, and we love to see it. She's going on adventures with her foster dad and taking plenty of naps. This girl deserves the world, and we're so glad she's finally able to experience life beyond the shelter. She went to the 🏖️ beach and visited a 🐓 farm! She is absolutely loving life.

Fostering is making HUGE difference for Piggy, her training, and her health. Our 🦄 Unicorn Foster Program in particular is changing the lives of our pups who need a little more help adjusting to life outside the shelter. In this program, our trainer and foster coordinator work closely with you to continue the dog's training and troubleshoot any concerns. If you're interested, we'd love to have you as a Unicorn Foster!

Bunty has struggled with the hustle and stress of the shelter. She came back to us under her ideal weight, and we have been trying to put some weight back on her. While we are building a new porch on our intake area, Bunty has been able to get a two week break from the shelter. She is loving life in her foster home, and her hosts Fran and Jim cannot say enough good things about her.

Fran writes,

“Gotta give you the update on this perfect dog! She loves squeaky toys, runs all around the house squeaking them. Loves walks in the woods, walks anywhere but especially the woods. Loves seeing the deer, she stops and stares them down.

Great on her leash - no problem getting it on her, she actually stuck her head into it this morning when Jim was taking too long to get moving. Lol

She’s eating, enjoying treats, and is not Quite As Bony!

Doesn’t react much to other dogs but when they bark she will pull on the leash but we tell her it’s ok and stay so she’s good! It’s the other dogs and their owners who don’t quite get it :(

Does not kennel but that’s ok. She is good in the house, doesn’t jump on the furniture, sleeps in whatever room suits her at the moment and sometimes that is right near Jim’s bed.

She loves both of us but she is always ready to walk with Jim. She knows he walks her and I feed her so it’s a win win! I wish we had a fenced in yard but for now she’s doing very well.

I really hope someone steps up to relieve her of the stress at the shelter because this dog deserves a home and she really is a perfect dog. We have absolutely no issues with her.
We will return her on the 16th…and I pray someone decides to step up and adopt her or foster to adopt.”

Thank you to Fran and Jim and everyone who has stepped up to foster during our construction process. If you would like to meet Bunty, please click on the link in our profile or go to pawsatlanta.org/adopt and fill out an application.

It's , and our pups need more KONG toys! We use KONG toys every day at the shelter. We fill them with peanut butter for an extra treat or use them for enrichment with dogs who need a little more stimulation.

As you can imagine, though, they go through a lot of wear and tear. They literally get chomped on every day! If you can send us a few, our dogs would be so grateful. Especially as we head into winter, the pups don't get to spend quite as much time outside, so any extra enrichment is crucial.

October was so busy that we forgot to post our calendar pet of the month! But it was well worth the wait, because our October calendar guy is 🖤BEOWULF🖤!

If you've been involved at PAWS Atlanta over the past several years, it's likely that you've heard about Beowulf. He spent three years at PAWS Atlanta waiting for a home. When he first arrived, he was scared and shut down. Our volunteer, Ed (the cat whisperer) worked with him for over a year, and he finally started to come out of his shell. Last year, he spent some time in a foster home where he really started to blossom.

Last October, our handsome Beowulf finally found a home! 🙌 His parents are long-time supporters of PAWS and have a home full of other PAWS alum. Beowulf is doing INCREDIBLE these days. He loves his mom in particular, asking for head pets and showing his affection. He also has a fellow black cat sister as a partner-in-crime. Beowulf has more love that we could've dreamed of for him, and we're so happy.

Usually for our calendar features, we post the bio that accompanies the pet in the calendar. But Beowulf's life has changed so much since we wrote his bio that we wanted to give you a heartwarming update instead. 🥰

Congrats, Beowulf, on being Mr. October and on finding the best home! 👏

We loved hosting a volunteer group from Rödl & Partner last week! They helped us sort a ton of new donations and bag up some huge piles of leaves. Our volunteer groups are so helpful with keeping the shelter neat and tidy, especially in the fall!

If you'd like to volunteer with your group, reach out to Sam at [email protected]. We're already scheduling for 2025!
