First day of season was a bust, hunted 3 hours jumped two shot. Had to get back early , my nephew Josh Josteshas made the state playoffs 20 years in a row. Kick off is 1300 hrs.. Go Trojans.

Absolute marathon of a track and incredible dog work by Sway! We got a phone call around 11 this am that the hunter was looking for help but wasn’t optimistic. He thought he potentially hit high but wasn’t sure but heard a hollow thud when his arrow hit. Immediately I thought this was likely a mid body shot and recoverable. Prior to us getting there 4 people and a golden retriever(untrained) had been searching all morning. We arrived on scene and Sway quickly went work and blew through the searching and we were lining out beyond their point of loss. Sway was working confidently and we soon crossed the logging road we drove in on. At 809 yds and 19 hrs post shot the buck jumped up in front of us in some logged area with tree tops throughout. We pursued to get a good grasp on direction and pulled off at a highway where the deer had crossed. Permission was granted to continue and we came back at 10 pm to resume the track 28 hrs post shot. At the road crossing Sway quickly locked on and off we went again. This deer lined out and ended up looping across its own track backtracking and downstream through a creek at 1.15 miles from the road crossing. He then looped back and started heading back to where we had just come..twisting and turning led us to 1.95 miles from the road crossing and to this buck that had just expired shortly before we found him at 30 hrs post shot. Crazy part is coyotes were challenge barking us when we found him. They were close but we kept them from getting any😃! Total track distance was 2.75 miles. Turns out the shot was low and had just zippered him open. Congrats Steve on your best bow buck! #34
