Please consider supporting the rescue during this time. With emergency rescues like this and a surrender waitlist growing daily, any amount helps. While this story has a happy ending, there are so many piggies in need of help and we can’t do that without your support! Medical treatment and vet wellness checks for this group alone is over $300. We try to not ask often and post for help, but like with all rescues this is an incredibly challenging time for us. We want to give a huge thank you to all of our supporters, fosters, and adopters. We couldn’t do it without you!!
Today we wanted to share this adorable video for #ogprmunchingmonday Sanctuary senior Juno, who is seven years old, receives liquid vitamin C supplement daily as a precaution after she briefly lost the use of her back legs a few months ago. Her buddy Millie (from the Macon rescue) learned how yummy it tastes so she gets to join in and have a little as well. Her little tongue is too cute! We hope everyone is having a great start to the week!
Today for #ogprMunchingMonday we want to show a quick update of the park dump piggies, Ellie and Filly, and their new friend Dumpling! They’ll be on pregnancy watch for the next 60 days. All three are doing well and love veggie time. 🥰
We hope everyone is having a great week so far! As a reminder our fundraiser auction ends tomorrow! Krate&Kage generously set up a fleece liner and accessory set auction where the entire winning bidding amount will be donated to the rescue! Cupcake, one of our newer intakes, loves to play in her Krate&Kage fleece corner 🥰 We will be posting her story soon.
Please consider placing a bid to support the rescue and a small business all while getting something fun to use for your piggies!

Baby Bean
Today for #ogprMunchingMonday we would like to share the story of baby Bean! Bean was part of a surprise litter of four from a female guinea pig we took in from our first trip to help with the large group surrender in Macon. When we picked up his mom, Tamale, she had just given birth the night before to two babies, or so we were told….
It turns out that she must have given birth a few days earlier and was impregnated immediately after which can happen with guinea pigs. Tamale’s foster was very surprised about three weeks ago when Tamale gave birth to a litter of four! One pup was a runt and much smaller than the others and weighed only 52 grams! Normally guinea pig babies will have weights that range from 60-100 grams. Baby Bean (named by his foster) appeared to be nursing and was moving around well so his foster kept an eye on him for 24 hours to monitor his weight. He also was separated three times the first day to nurse from his mom uninterrupted to see if this could help him maintain his weight.
Unfortunately he lost weight and went down to 47 grams within 48 hours of being born so we made the decision to give him supplemental feeding. This can be very dangerous with babies because they are very small and any time you syringe feed a guinea pig, there is the risk they aspirate and inhale the liquid which can block their airway and even cause death. We used Wombaroo guinea pig milk replacement to syringe feed him. To help prevent the possibility of aspiration we attach a catheter tip to the syringe so it has a narrower opening, which prevents large amounts of liquid from coming out of the syringe at once. Instead of inserting the syringe into Bean’s mouth, we pushed a drop to the tip of the syringe and then would place this on his lips so he could still get the milk without directly squirting it into his mouth. This can be a very slow and difficult process so we were excited when baby Bean enjoyed the milk replacement and wanted to drink it! Another techn

Happy Monday! It has been an entire week since we have posted, but these past couple of weeks have been very challenging for us. We were involved with multiple rescues we will share with you more about this week including catching a female guinea pig abandoned outside, assisting another rescue with injured two day old babies, having over 12 babies born, adding four new fosters, and a unique situation for the rescue that has been ongoing which is where the three male babies featured in this video came from!
Mercury is a single adult male who was surrendered to us and has been a great foster dad to Rocko, Spot, and Chickpea since we had to separate them from their moms at three weeks old. We think he has been loving the company and are hoping one becomes a great match for him to have a friend for the rest of his life! They are loving munching on some timothy Small Pet Select hay for #ogprMunchingMonday!
Happy Monday and first week of May! Today for #ogprMunchingMonday we are featuring Maggie and Hazel, two young guinea pigs that were part of a group of six guinea pigs left in cages outside of an apartment! Thankfully Sara was kind enough to bring them inside and take care of them for a week before we took them in. We will be posting more later about not just this group, but two recent group surrenders we took in!!! These two ladies will be on pregnancy watch along with their sister Lizzie and mom Mabel (who is noticeably pregnant). We love the video that their foster, Heather, made to introduce them as well as the surprise appearance of her own OGPR piggies at the end! 🥰😍
