This position is considered an hourly, seasonal position. Training will start mid-May and camps begin on June 2nd and run until July 25th. This position requires working Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, with weekends off.

Requirements: Must be 18 yrs old or older. Must love kids! Previous camp or teaching experience, and a college education with education/science courses are strongly preferred.

Did you know that today is Western Monarch Day? 🦋🦋

Monarchs are in the SAFE program (Saving Animals From Extinction) due to their drastic population decline, and one of best ways people can help is by protecting and creating new habitats for these amazing pollinators! At Scovill Zoo, we are a part of the Monarch SAFE program and have an established pollinator garden, with a variety of pollinator friendly plants including the monarch's favorite, milkweed!

Don't forget that we will be hosting two meet and greet sessions with the Volunteer Coordinator this week for anyone interested in learning about becoming a zoo volunteer! You can come to the Shilling Education Center (walk through the front gate to the zoo and go into the building on your right) on either January 22nd anytime between 9-10am, or January 24th between 2-3pm.

Our annual Volunteer Training Classes are starting February 5th this year, and will be once a week on Wednesdays from 9-noon.

Join us next Tuesday, January 14, for our Zoo Buddies class on Slimy Frogs! This class is for 3-5 yr olds and they will be learning all about these amazing amphibians and will get to see two of the zoo's resident frogs up close!

Here we are at day 2 in our countdown to the new year! Taylor & Wiley the American White Pelicans hope that everyone has had a chance to relax and spend time with family and friends this holiday season!

Taylor and Wiley were both found with wing injuries most likely sustained by flying into power lines while coasting down to land in Lake Taylorville and the wetlands in Wiley, IL. Taylor has been at Scovill Zoo for 20 years, and Wiley has been here for 15 years.

Zin the Red Panda is jumping for joy that there are only 4 days till the new year!

Red pandas are crepuscular, meaning that they are most active at dusk and dawn. Their red coat and white mask are great camouflage with the red moss and white lichens that cover tree branches in their native bamboo forest habitat.
