Lucky didn’t feel so lucky on Saturday when he parted from his senior owner who could no longer take care of him. At 14 yrs of age, it was heartbreaking for all of us, as this guy had been with his owner since he was adopted from Homeward Bound at 6 months of age. These are before and after pics of his grooming session today. Our vet seen him on Wednesday and we did senior blood work. Lucky has some tumors and a liver disease in addition to aging eye and hearing issues. But, maybe he’s lucky after all because tomorrow he is going to a loving foster home to live out his golden years.

Our litter boxes are scooped 2-3 times a day at our facility. This morning, one of our volunteers started laughing when scooping. She said that Venice must be getting in the holiday spirit. So please meet Venice and her artwork she left in the litterbox. This was not made by anyone but Venice. We told Venice we could not keep it but we all got a good laugh.

Meet Samson! Samson was recently surrendered after his owner was moving and couldn't find a place for him. Samson is a great little guy! You can meet this cute little guy during our public hours, 12-4pm Wednesday through Saturday.

Are you looking for a small dog? We have a couple available! Meet V***n. V***n is the mom of Dancer and Prancer. V***n does take a bit to warm up to new people. But once she lets you in, she will give you all the kisses! She seems to like women better than men. She does not seem to be a fan of small children. We haven't tried her with other dogs yet, but we know that there were several other small dogs in the home she came from. She is thought to be around 2 years old. V***n is not housebroken. You can stop by and meet V***n between 12-4 pm Wednesday through Saturday.

Carmie's outgoing personality quickly won over her new owner. When we called and let Carmie's new owner know she was approved, she asked who was one of our oldest or long term kitty residents she could also take home. After showing her a couple of our long term kitties, she decided to also adopt Bunny, who looks just like Carmie! Bunny has been with us for almost 3 years! We are so happy that Carmie and Bunny have been adopted and want to thank their new owner for taking the time to meet Bunny and give this sweet girl a home! Both of them deserve it!

Special Needs #Giving Tuesday Network for Good

Bambi is a sweet fourteen month old Boxer/Lab mix. Bambi was hit by a car in the care of previous owner, and, did not receive necessary veterinarian care. Now she is at the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County in Decatur, Illinois, awaiting surgery for amputation of her right front leg. Neurological damage cannot be repaired, and, during the length of time she did not receive medical attention, she tried to chew her foot off. She is currently on pain medication and daily bandage change while waiting for scheduled surgery.

Bambi is one of four special needs dogs currently at our facility. Another is Heath, a young, chocolate lab male, waiting for his scheduled surgery at SportsVet in Savoy. Heath needs to have the femoral head removed on his left hip. Heath is another hit-by-car tragedy not receiving veterinary care. He is currently on pain medications. Then, we have Rebecca, a 7 year old Maltese, mostly blind from cataracts. We would like to be able to take her to an ophthalmologist to see if she is a candidate for cataract removal. And, last, but not least is Scooby, a two year old rat terrier mix, that came in mostly blind.

These special dogs would really appreciate any monetary donations to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County to help provide for their surgeries and care. You can donate through Network for Good #Giving Tuesday starting now. The Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County is a no-kill animal shelter/rescue that is mainly volunteers, and, depends entirely on private donations and our fundraising activities.

Can you help us help these special dogs?
