We received an update on adorable Chewie (previously Ollie), and it sure looks like this sweet boy is making the most of his time with his forever family. From school pics to Target runs, naptime snuggles to basking in the sun in his very own yard, this pup is enjoying it all. His new mom says:

“Chewie is doing amazing! We love having him as part of our family, and he has quickly learned new tricks (shake, rollover, wait, and learning more every day). He is such a loving boy and we are so lucky to have him! Thank you again for making our family whole!”

This small dog was found on a gravel road (M Ave) outside the city of Fayette. He is friendly and seems accustomed to being someone’s close companion. If he is yours or you know where he might belong please contact HSNEI so we can help get him home.

Twenty-four years ago today, alongside many brave and selfless first responders, more than 300 search-and-rescue dogs worked tirelessly at Ground Zero after the attacks on 9/11. From guide dogs like Roselle, who steadily led her blind handler to safety down 78 flights of stairs in the North Tower, to search dogs like Bretagne, Sirius, and Trakr, these loyal companions gave their everything to help.
They worked day after day searching through rubble, comforting survivors and emotionally-struggling rescuers, and bringing hope in the darkest of days. Many worked until exhaustion, refusing to leave their handler’s side, motivated by grateful head pats and driven on by the hope of finding just one survivor. Today, as we honor the lives lost and the courage shown, we also remember the paws that walked beside the heroes.

Sakura (now Pippa) was one popular little gal!! This sweet pup had interested adopters from all over the country, but in the end, she didn’t need to go far to find her forever family. Her new mom recently sent an update on how she’s been doing in her first few weeks at home. She says:

Pippa is settling in great and we can't imagine our lives without her. She is just the sweetest little girl. She has a great appetite and is kenneling at night like a champ.

Some of her favorite things are:
- playing outside
- stealing the cat toys
- frozen blueberries
- her snuffle mat
- being brushed

Some of the things she doesn't like:
- the vacuum
- her reflection in the mirror
- baths
- her leash

Thanks for all the work you do for animals!”

WE HAVE ADORABLE NEW ARRIVALS!! These tiny little ones are 6-weeks-old and hoping their forever families will come for them soon. The shelter can be scary for even the bravest cat or dog, but this sweet bunch is doing their best. They’re spending their time getting used to new people, eating lots of kitten food slurry, and snuggling up in one big kitten pile together. Update: Julia has gone HOME!!!

We have had so many pups find amazing new families these past few weeks, but as the last pup of her litter to be chosen, Julia has been left all alone to wait for hers. With her brother, Link, going home this afternoon, this sweet little gal no longer has anyone to play, snuggle, or explore with. Julia is a 2-month-old Spaniel mix who is just 8 pounds of soft, snuggly puppy and we’re hoping there is someone out there who is looking for a pup just like her. PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR HSNEI ALUM EMMETT IN CRESCO!! He went missing from his home near 2nd Ave SW and 5th Street W. August 30th. He is neutered and microchipped. He’s a very sweet boy but is probably fearful and hiding as he is an indoor cat. If you have seen him or taken him in please contact HSNEI so we can help get him back home.
