Update: They say these things happen in 3's and I tend to believe it. Our condolences go to Rue's family. She has also been a boarder since 2015 and boarded more than 100 times. We loved her and was lucky enough to spend some time with her a week before she had a stroke. Rest easy girlfriend.

We also received a call that a really sweet cat had passed away. Kitty had boarded here since 2018. Her family has trusted us with their pets since 2007. We just love cats who do not swat, scratch, or bite. She was perfect!

Rest in peace you three. This is enough of that trend for awhile.

I took a hard phone call this morning from a long term client. He was letting us know that his buddy had cancer and was no longer living. I could hear the pain in his voice and also the immense emotion of sadness, love, and how incredibly special his dog was. His dog loved the kennel and he made Joy and I laugh each and every time he visited.

I looked at his service records. We watched this boy 44 times since 2015. No wonder we get attached. He just made our day better with him in it. We were always happy when we saw his name on the check in list.

Run fast Grover. Take your tug toy. He was never without. Peace and healing thoughts to his family.

I'm posting this as somewhat of a public service announement reminder. Xylitol is toxic to dogs. It has recently been renamed on food labels. Without knowledge of this, it is possible that our dogs can be harmed.

Take a moment to read this and watch your labels please

Xylitol has been in the news this year. In June, a study came out indicating its association with an increase in heart attack and strokes. Most recently, the FDA has allowed xylitol to be renamed on labels as

There is a tree down on a power line on Drake Hill.

I was so happy when the generator came on and we are business as usual. We had a dog in the tub and others in the dryer.

We aren't missing a lick! I'm so happy to hear that run.

Congratulations to Navy Air Station Fallon on their working dog competition placements. It takes a lot of hours and hard work to train these mission ready dogs.

This is the base that Ryan is currently attached to and the base that I was able to visit on my October trip to Nevada.

It was interesting to hear about their kennel space, training, and their lifestyle. They do not accompany their handlers home. They remain on base and ready to work, if needed.

Ryan took these photos this afternoon and called to have me look at the post. These animals can do amazing things and often give their lives in the duty of service to their handlers and our country. Salute!

A history of military working dogs can be read here: https://hiarmymuseumsoc.org/.../a-history-of-military.../

All of these dogs are female except the black one. The Labrador Retriever is an EOD (explosives) dog. They are all specialized in certain skills.

Kudos to the military trainers. It is clearly hard and dangerous work.

Vacation Closure Confirmed:

I've spoke with many of you about taking my annual trip to see our son. Without excess help, it's best to close the kennel in my absence. I try to do this each October when the busy season is over.

We will be empty on the PM shift of October 6th and will reopen the morning of October 17th. Joy will be here each evening to answer messages and schedule appointments. She will be here long enough to complete the tasks and then gone.

It may be best to use email during this time. It's so easy to refer to that to get your details such as day in, day out, and AM or PM. It makes for a great paper trail :)

I appreciate your understanding and hope that the inconveniences are few. It's nice to be able to take a break. I'm hoping this time off will help the knee problem I've been doctoring all summer!

Thank you again and happy fall!
