BREAKING: Updates to Canada travel

Hey there! Do you live on the border of Maine and Canada? Do you travel back and forth frequently? Are you planning on vacationing in the Maritimes this summer, or taking a long weekend in Quebec? Will your dog be accompanying you?

The USDA and CDC have passed new regulations concerning travel with dogs, specifically relating to returning into the US from any other country. This will typically affect us in regards to Canada travel, but would also apply if you were taking a trip to Mexico with your dog. Whereas a simple up-to-date rabies certificate was previously the only documentation necessary to cross the border, re-entry to the US now requires a Certification of US-issued Rabies Vaccination. This form must be endorsed by the USDA and must accompany you and your dog on your trip; your dog also must be microchipped in order to cross the border.

There is a lot of information pursuant to this change and these requirements - you can find answers to most (or hopefully all!) of your questions at https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/enter-the-us.html .

If you are planning travel with your dog into Canada this summer or later, please allow as much time as possible for us to process the paperwork for you; your dog may not need an office visit as long as they are up to date, but will need to be microchipped if they currently aren't and their rabies vaccine must be current. Give us a call if you will need this service!

Pet Fire Safety Day serves as reminder for pet owners to take proactive measures to prevent fires and protect their furry friends. Install smoke detectors throughout your home, especially in areas where your pet spends most of their time. Also, be sure to regularly check the batteries.

We're hoping that you are all stocked up and prepared for the holiday this week, and that includes any chronic medications, prescription food, and most especially any sedatives or drugs for noise phobias!

Fireworks are only legally allowed in Dedham on July 3rd and 4th, but we all know that your neighbors will be lighting off the booms all week. If you have a dog or cat who needs to be medicated to survive this onslaught, TODAY is the day to check your stash of meds, and to contact us if you need a refill. We will be closed on Thursday to observe the 4th, and will reopen on Friday with a skeleton crew. Don't wait!!! Statistically, July 4th sees the largest number of pets go missing due to being spooked by fireworks, and we don't want yours to be one of them. Keep your pets inside, run air conditioners or white noise machines, play the TV or radio to drown out the noise, and for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE give meds if needed.

Also, it goes without saying to avoid giving your pets inappropriate people food and to keep them away from the BBQ (please, no corn cobs!). There's a lot of excitement and new faces around the holiday, which can be too much for some pets; make sure they have their own space so we don't see any bites or fights.

With all that said, please have a safe and memorable 4th!

It's dark in here!

Sounds like there have been a couple of gnarly accidents in the area, and we have been without power for about an hour. Unsure as of this moment what our restoration time is. If you have an appointment scheduled this afternoon, we just ask that you have patience with us as we navigate in the dark! We can reschedule you if you'd rather, please just give us a call and we will take care of everything for you.

Thanks!

Wow, it might be a bit chilly today, but it is summertime according to our appointment books!

We are starting to book up with wellness visits into the next couple of months, so Puddles here would like to remind you to check your pet's vaccine status and schedule their annual visit ahead of time to make sure we can get them seen in a timely fashion. You can visit our website ( https://lucernevet.com/news/online-booking-and-new-app ) to get more information on PetDesk, a platform where you can access your pet's information to find out when they're due for different aspects of their preventive care. You can also request an appointment directly through the platform!

We hope you're all having a bright and happy Spring, and we can't wait to see you!

Our lovely LVT Katie has been shining a spotlight on our staff pets over the past several months (and hopefully ongoing for a very long time!). Of course we're a little biased, but we thought we would share her write-ups on our furry children!

If you haven't been using your flea/tick preventives right on schedule over the winter, it's time to put that alarm in your phone! The ticks are definitely out and HUNGRY. There are many great products available (and many not so great ones unfortunately) - stay tuned for further discussion on this, but for now, if you haven't been using preventives all winter (which believe it or not, is justified - we've pulled ticks in all 12 months of the year) - start now!! If you need them give a call and we'll help get you set up. Ticks are the WORST - the only bad thing about the weather warming up! ๐Ÿ˜ญ ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Brrrr, holy cow, it's chilly out there!

We really appreciate it when you bring us a stool sample for your pet's annual appointment for a routine f***l screening, we advocate for this once a year to make sure we're keeping on top of intestinal parasites. The weather makes things difficult when it's subzero, however! If the sample you're bringing is frozen solid, it's no good as we can't run any testing on it. It's perfectly fine to drop off a fresh sample the next time you think of it (hopefully when the mercury is a little higher!)

In the meantime, take a look at these photos I've been saving for you. :D
