We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the foods we’re going to be producing and we’ve had some great conversations with you guys. The food has been in development for well over a year and we’re still in the testing phase, which is why we’ve opened it up to you guys now. We aren’t in a big rush to just get this out before it’s absolutely ready. We want to make sure this food is the best option out there for breeders and regular hobbyists alike and it performs exactly as we expect it to. We’ll be updating with more info including some answers to the questions we’ve been receiving shortly. With the store and service being way busier right now, this has been moving slower than anticipated, but we do have a lot of progress being made and we can’t wait to really show you guys what we’ve been working on all this time. More info to come soon!

We received a few Synodontis Polli Whites this week that are very high quality and a chunky 2”+. These smaller Synodontis top out around 5.5”. They all have the stark white body with dark black spots making them look like dairy cows. Polli White is not a natural species and have been selectively bred for that bright white coloration. Definitely not a common fish to find and they almost never come in this size.

We have an order coming in tomorrow! We’ll have confirmation later today for a few species, but we have some killer fish arriving. More new species and we should have a lot of those large Rummies coming back in.

We had a lot of interest in the food last week. We also had a lot of messages from regulars that weren’t around last week who wanted a slot. We do want to keep the test size limited early on, but if you’re a store regular and you want a slot we have you covered. We still have a portion of total samples going out to industry friends and partners that hasn’t changed, but beyond the initial allotment we’ve added that small cushion to make sure you have a slot. We’re really proud of the work we’ve put into this so far and we can’t wait to build this new brand with your help! We’ll keep the updates coming!

If you’re a store regular then you know we’ve been working on a freshwater pellet food (a standard blend and a breeder blend) for a while now. It’s been in development for well over a year now. The goal is to produce a high quality food with zero ingredients that are just there as filler to pad the margin, every ingredient has a nutritional purpose. It wasn’t easy, but we’re a few weeks from having those samples ready. We have a limited number of slots (about 65) left and tester slots are $20. This fee is to make sure that we get serious interest and active feedback from our testers. We’re more interested in feedback related to user experience and individual results, since this blend is being tested in house and labs for nutritional analysis as we perfect it. Your slot gets you each sample we produce prior to release, plus a retail bag of the finished product at no additional charge, and some other goodies before launch. Stop by the store to claim your spot and leave your contact info for the test. We’re excited to share this with you guys and look forward to showing you guys what we’ve been working on so far! Lots of big things coming with this project!

Cephalopods are some of the most interesting species you can keep, but they are for the advanced hobbyist. They need enrichment and most have specific needs as far as care and how their tanks are designed. These Dwarf Cuttlefish (Sepia bandensis) were bred here on Long Island and we eventually got them breeding in our system. We’ve had plans for a cephalopod display in the store for a long time, but just haven’t had the time to get it done. We’re currently booked with builds into November at this point, so time is at a premium, but if you’re interested in keeping cephs we’re happy to help you get started.

2” Bengal Danio (top) with a max size of 3-4” and 1” Orange Fin Danios (bottom) with a max size of 1.5-2”. Just a couple of the great looking fish we received this week! Did you know that some danios have barbels? The Orange Fin Danios have a pair of long barbels that are usually tucked up under their jaw that they use for foraging and navigation. Anyway, the Orange Fins kind of look like large CPDs.

Lots of African Cichlids in this week, including some really nice Mylochromis ericotaenia! We have some great looking freshwater in too! Large Bengal Danios, smaller Orange Finned Kyathit Danios, Neon Rasboras that are looking really happy in one of our planted tanks, and a bunch of other great stuff. We also got in some great plants this week, including Marble Anubias Barteri (very limited) and some other stunners too. Whenever we get some of these plants in they get scooped up fast, really fast.

Paskai’s Blue Eye Rainbows arriving in this weeks order! These Blue Eyes are very similar to the Red Neon’s with a sometimes more subdued coloration. Both come from different water systems in New Guinea.

We also have South Pacific Blue Eyes currently in the store, which are different, but also very cool looking and similar to Ivantsoff Blue Eyes (which we had until recently). We like Blue Eyes, they’re great in most tanks and in the 1.5” range they’re one of the more interesting and colorful fish you’re going to find.

We have a great order arriving tomorrow! There are a bunch of new species confirmed including some really nice looking chunky Dawkinsia barbs (not mascaras like we had a few weeks ago) and large Bengal Danios, several great looking less common African cichlids, and some really cool plants including various types of variegated Anubias! We have some very limited numbers of some of the plants and fish this week due to availability. Some of these plants fly out of here whenever they come in so don’t expect them to be here long. We have a bunch of other cool stuff arriving shortly including some high quality apistos!

Flavescent Peacock “Usisya” available in our African Cichlid system at the store! We have a bunch of really nice haps and peacocks from this order in our system looking great! We do not get in hormoned Africans, so their colors are their colors and won’t fade out over time. They’ll only get better looking as they mature.
