UPDATE: The horses are back on my property. Thank you very much to my kind neighbor Rudy for rounding them up and getting them put away.

I just found out my horses are out on Way of Peace. I am in Lakewood at least 90 minutes away. Please watch out for them. If there is anyone that can bait them back into my yard it would be greatly appreciated.

Ask me about my rescue:

Meet Lilly!

This girl has the most beautiful color I have ever seen. From her mane to her tail! She sweet, sassy and likes lovin’s but only on her terms. She been at the rescue about 2 years. She will take need a kind hand and a gentle, patient adoptee. She is fancy broke, neck reins and everything BUT she has trust issues and will absolutely require someonewilling to earn her trust and their right to hop in the saddle!

Okay, be prepared. This is longer.

In October of 2020 my Mother and I wanted to do a “good thing”. We saw A BUNCH ( I mean hundreds) of horses in need and thought we could make a difference. We started a horse rescue, naively and full of false hope. After over 130 horses, saved or given their last act of kindness, or whatever the circumstances. We adopted out so many amazing, able four legged event, companion, or casual trail horses along the way, as well. We never asked for a dime in donations until we were approved 501(c3) status only to learn somewhere along the way it got mucked up and we were classified as a “private foundation” which meant we were NOT eligible for ANY grants or public help. We have relied only on our own funds and few donations. After years of struggling and trying to keep it all going and moving forward and countless funds and efforts to be re-structured and fighting to correct the status, we are looking at potentially dissolving. We are working as hard as we can to find homes for what we have potentially adoptable. If you are looking for a horse, please reach out.

Estimated 3-5 year old bay gelding, 14 hands, estimated 1000lbs, still growing, 100% sound

This is one stout dude with some big feet. Fancy gait, possibly Andalusian or paso fino cross. Dominant but with a lot of personality and heart. Head of the herd. Lots of go. Needs an intermediate to advanced rider. Will need continued training as we have only put a little over 30 days on him. Just trimmed today. Will be a nice working horse in the right hands. Needs someone who will work him consistently.

Available through Way of Peace Equine Haven but please contact me for more info and to come see him.

Spent some time out brushing horses today and Dakota was very certain that Hazel didn’t need to be brushed and she was the only one needing all that attention. 😂

Somebody do Something "they" said.
I saw the horse in question days ago. I also saw the 20
horses in the rescue and the minimal bank account, the winter coming & the creaking of my aging body that screams each time I need to fix something.

Somebody do Something "they" said.
I looked at her sad brown eyes and sighed. And scraped the bottom of the food bin as I fed the horses I already had.

Somebody do Something "they" said.
I could see she was thin and was losing hair. And was she holding her foot up? And Obviously carrying a baby on board. I looked at the previous enormous vet bills and wondered what the vet would say if I brought in another horse .

Somebody do Something "they" said.
And so I sent an email saying I would take her. And laid awake wondering where I would put her. And how would she fit in. And how was I ever going to find homes for them all?

Somebody do Something "they" said.
And tonight "they" will spend time with their families and friends. "They" won't be up 2 hours early to feed and water the unwanted. "They" won't try to come up with new and novel ways to market, place, and fund the horses.

"We" will. The rescuers. The ones who donate time and spend our own money and try to raise more. We will lose sleep. And cry over the ones we can't save. And rejoice in the ones we can. We will pull our hair out and swear we are done. And then tomorrow we will do it again. Because rescue touches our soul.

As I sit here with these horses surrounding me, I have no regrets. Other than ignorance that won't be educated. The stallions who won't be gelded .. the lack of basic training and the idealistic plans that people have - that fall very short. The cycle that continues that force us to do this day in and day out.

Somebody do Something "they" said.
I did something. Did you?

Or did you just sit back and judge and complain and tell us what we need to be doing differently because you have a better plan even though you have no clue what you're talking about?

You, the one who has never rescued anything in your life nor fostered nor transported nor held a dying animal in your arms because it could not be saved and probably never donated a dime. The only thing you have ever given is your opinion.

Rescue is hard . “ They” make it harder. We are all doing our best. rather than criticize, complain , bash or ridicule. How about being helpful. There is WAY more of them and too few of US.

Adopt. Volunteer. Donate. Foster.
