iving communities, libraries, and more! In the long term, Hog Haven Farm aims to:

• Promote potbellied pigs as the third recognized domesticated animal and pet by providing education and resources to the general public
• Provide a safe home for rescued livestock (including potbelly pigs) to call home; a place for rehabilitation of livestock animals; and a welcoming environment for the community to become better acquainted with animals associated with food
• Educate the community about potbelly pigs as creatures and pets
• Educate the community about farm animals through volunteer programs, organization visits to the farm (schools, etc.), and allow community to work directly with the animals to learn more about them
• Educate the community about sustainable food options; farm animals are more than dinner, and educational programs are paramount in creating change within the food industry
• Create outreach program for children with autism (research strongly suggests that animals increase positive social behaviors with children that have ASD)

Some of the piggies love to climb in the pools as they are being refilled—on hot days like today, we can’t blame them! Steve and Daisy Duke enjoyed a nice cool off, and then we dumped their pools and started over again 😅

Pigs need access to fresh water and full mud wallows 24/7, as they don’t sweat and need water and mud to properly regulate their body temperatures. Watering in the summer is a ton of work, but our hearts are always happy when we see happy pigs enjoying themselves and staying cool.

Eight years ago today, we moved to our little 40 acre slice of heaven in Deer Trail, with 28 pigs and 2 miniature donkeys in tow, and a whole lot of volunteer help. A lot has changed and we’ve significantly grown, but today we reflect on our humble beginnings and our massive dreams to save pigs 🩵

Some of the milestones we’ve achieved in the last eight years:

🐷 100% spay and neuter rate since 2017! Not only does this prevent unnecessary breeding, it helps the long term health of our pig friends, helping prevent a variety of reproductive cancers

🐷 More than 400 pigs have been rescued from situations of abandonment, abuse, neglect, and from slaughter

🐷 More than 150 pigs have found their forever families through our adoption program

🐷 Our infrastructure has improved and increased, from the original two pens housing 28 pigs, to 28 pens housing 146 pigs (and an additional 10 boarding pigs). We also added an area for our rescued goat and sheep, and an area for our rescued equines

🐷 Hog Haven takes pride in preserving the local ecosystem. ~35 acres are untouched, providing natural habitats to rabbits, kangaroo rats, toads, turtles, bull snakes, birds, bats, and the occasional badger. We also have a variety of wildlife regularly cross through the property, including pronghorn, mule deer, and coyotes

Some of you have been following us since the early days, some of you have just joined us. Thank you for your support, and for loving the pigs as much as we do. We couldn’t continue helping pigs without all of you cheering us on, volunteering, and donating towards the pigs 🩵

Peanut and Lodi patiently waiting on a wallow refill 🥵

Today was incredibly hot, but the pigs are all doing well and everyone stayed as cool as possible. We are grateful for the afternoon cloud cover, and a breeze, which helps cool everyone down!

One year ago, this handsome man was coming home from being hospitalized. Junior went off of feed and was lethargic, a sign that something was terribly wrong. Dr. Ali performed exploratory surgery after initial supportive care wasn’t changing things; she found a tumor in his intestines that tested positive for lymphoma.

A year later, Junior is doing GREAT, with no signs for concern. He has been living his best life in the wallows this weekend, keeping busy as happy piggies do 🩵

Yoga with Rescued Pigs was AWESOME today—thanks to everyone who braved the heat to get bendy with Baron and Creedence, and to Mickey for a great workout!

If you missed today’s session, we have our July dates up (and a few spaces left next Saturday). Joining us for yoga directly supports the pigs, and is always a fantastic time 🩵

Sherman is so happy to be home 🥰 He’s doing great so far today, and enjoyed a welcome home watermelon to share with his friends!

Sherman is home! 🥳

Sorry for the short video, it’s hard to record while making sure your pig doesn’t leap out of the back of the car 😅 But he did go down the ramp into his pen, said hi to his friends, and headed straight into his house for a nap. We will be keeping an extra close watch on Sherman, as well as modifying his diet to ensure he doesn’t get backed up again.

Big thanks for all of the well wishes and support for his care! We were only 200 short from our fundraising efforts, which we covered from our general fund.

Wednesday Sherman update!

We are so happy to report that Sherman has been pooping, a lot—but he still has a lot he needs to pass, so he’ll be hospitalized for one more night, remaining on IV fluids. Dr. Ali said his blood work looks pretty good, and we have a dietary plan in place when he comes home tomorrow.

We aren’t sure what his final total will be, but we have raised $960 towards his care so far. We are anticipating the bill to be close to 2k (we know it’s at 1700 as of now), so we could use your support covering the rest of his care 🩵 Thanks for all your well wishes for this handsome man, and to everyone who has contributed so far!

Sweet babes ❤️ Sisters are the best!

Primrose, Ruth, and Florence all turned 4 years old last month. They’ve stayed relatively small, but they have big personalities and attitudes to make up for it! They are usually in the company of mama Burgie, but she enjoyed a nice break by herself this morning 🥰

Stay tuned for updates on Sherman coming this afternoon!

Sherman’s best friends, Piggy Smalls and Kora, are sure missing him 🥺 Pigs are really sensitive beings, and the absence of those they are close to is felt hard.

We don’t really have any updates or answers on Sherman’s care at this time. After being on fluids from yesterday afternoon through this morning, Sherman didn’t pass any stool on his own. Dr. Ali is keeping a close eye on him, and planned to increase his fluids this morning. He was given a couple of enemas as well. We will keep you all updated as we learn more, but for now, keep sending him lots of love and good vibes for 💩

A hectic Monday morning is upon us, with an unexpected vet visit for Sherman 🥺

Just over a year ago, Sherman was hospitalized for severe constipation; following that stay, we modified his diet to help his motility moving forward. Unfortunately, Sherman is really backed up again, and is going to be hospitalized at least this evening. We dropped him off at the clinic first thing this morning for imaging, bloodwork, and fluids, and we are suspecting the hot temps have caused dehydration and the back up.

Once again, we are rallying for your support. Sherman was not on the list of pigs we’ve been fundraising for, and while we don’t have a rough estimate for his care at this time, we know it’ll be at least $500 off the bat for diagnostics & fluids.

If you can contribute towards Sherman’s hospital stay, we’d be very grateful 🩵

Pumba and Peetie seem to be enjoying their new digs, though we think they miss their other friends a little bit 🥺

It is HOT today, and Peetie started to overheat a little bit. We turned the pen into sunshade city to make sure they both have ample shade spots, and to also block direct sun from hitting the front of their house. You can guarantee we’re always checking on the piggies throughout the day, making sure they have everything they need 🩵

Good morning, friends!

We’ve gotten lots of new followers in the past few months, and are approaching our 10 year milestone anniversary, so we wanted to take a minute to reintroduce ourselves and explain our mission!

Hog Haven Farm is a grassroots rescue and sanctuary, founded in August 2014 by Andrew and Erin, and located in Deer Trail, CO. After adopting a five month old mini pig from a Craigslist ad, we soon realized the need for pig-specific rescues in not just Colorado, but nationwide. We put together a business plan to start a rescue, not realizing just how quickly it would take off—and how many pigs would cross our paths. Our mission is to save pigs from situations of abandonment, abuse, and neglect ; to rehabilitate pigs; and to find permanent placement of pigs as companion animals to qualified homes. We lost our beloved Pipsqueak in 2023 to cancer, but she left an amazing legacy, and changed our lives in so many ways for the better!

Since founding nearly 10 years ago, Hog Haven has been able to rescue more than 400 pigs, and is currently home to 146. Erin (aka food lady) is the primary caretaker for all of the pigs, while Andrew works outside of the rescue to support the household. We do offer seasonal volunteer opportunities, as well as two open farm days each summer.

Hog Haven Farm is a nonprofit organization, and donations are all used to directly support the pigs. We offer a variety of events in the Denver metro area every summer, like Yoga with Rescued Pigs, to help support necessary supplies (feed, bedding) and veterinary care. We’d love to meet you in person, so please check out our events & volunteer schedule on our website!

Thanks for following us, supporting our mission to help pigs, and for loving these silly creatures as much as we do! 🩵

Peetie had a vet visit this morning, though it’ll be some time before we get answers (his bloodwork had to be sent to a lab out of state).

A few weeks ago, we noticed that Peetie was eating small rocks in his pen, typically in the middle of the day; none of the pigs in his pen (nor any Hog Haven pig) eats off of the ground. He has actively been choosing to eat rocks, a new and very unusual behavior.

Radiographs of his GI tract showed lots of rocks, but we are hopeful he’ll be able to pass them all on his own (with dietary support to help). He has been passing them, but it’ll take time for all of the rocks to clear his system. Peetie does not have an obstruction and we aren’t currently concerned about one developing, though he’ll be closely monitored over the next few weeks.

Dr. Ali did advise us to move him to a rock-free area, which wasn’t an easy task—there are small rocks all over the ground here. But Andrew determined one pen didn’t have the same ground content as others, so when Erin returned home with Peetie, we were able to get him situated with his best pal Pumba.

We are hopeful that bloodwork will show a mineral deficiency or imbalance that can be supplemented; it’s going to take some time for the results to come back from the lab.

We still need your support for our spring and summer fundraising goals! Thanks to those who have donated so far, we have raised 17% of our total goal—but we still have a long way to go.

Happy Monday! Peeta is swinging by with a big smile to make you smile 🥰

Coat blowing season is in full swing, but this charming little guy is trying to hang on to his mohawk for as long as possible. Did you know that pigs shed their hair in late spring (called ‘blowing their coat’), and grow a little peach fuzz for summer time? We also call it baby hippo season, because bald piggies look like little hippos ❤️

What an incredible honor and privilege it is to watch pigs grow old 🥰 These four are the eldest of the rescued pigs living at Hog Haven Farm—Jeremy (18), Hamlet (18), Morrissey (17), and Schatzky (16).

When we mentioned a few days ago that Hog Haven has an aging population, what that means is nearly 50% of our pigs are 8+ years old; we have 43 pigs who are older than 10, and 30 pigs who are 8-9 years old. This is one of the reasons we are closed indefinitely to new intakes—as pigs age, they have greater needs. We must focus our attention and resources on providing the best quality care to these babes before we can help any additional pigs 🥺

On Friday, we launched a new fundraising campaign that in part supports vet care for some of our pigs. We have raised 695 towards our goal—thank you to all of our supporters! If you’d like to make a tax deductible contribution, please visit the link in the comments 🩵

Happy Friday!

We humbly come to you today with a big ask. If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we have had one of our most challenging years to date with vet care and expenses; as a small nonprofit, we rely on donations from the general public to sustain the pigs, and our fundraising goals have been falling short.

Vet care has been our biggest need and largest expense for 2024. We have nearly hit our annual budget for vetting, but have fundraised only 50% of that total—and we have more appointments on the horizon, including visits for Peetie, Pickle, and Groot (who had his appointment on Wednesday).

We also have some projects we need help funding, as you can see in the last image. All of the funds we receive from upcoming events will go towards feeding the pigs, and any excess will be used towards some of these goals. Hog Haven Farm tries to be as transparent as possible, and we desperately need support right now. If you have any questions about our goals, please don’t hesitate to reach out 🩵

We set up a fundraising campaign for these specific goals; visit the comments to learn more!

Thank you to everyone who supports our mission and helps us to help pigs. We couldn’t do this without all of you!

Five years ago today, Erin flew out to Indiana to assess conditions on the ground at a large scale hoarding and neglect case. Dubbed the Indy Pig Rescue, Hog Haven partnered with numerous other rescues and sanctuaries, including Kanda Farm Sanctuary, Kansas City Pig Rescue Network- KCPRN, and Gracie's Acres to remove the pigs from the property, have them vetted, and bring them to rescues where they could either live in sanctuary or be adopted into private homes.

One of the worst cases we have worked on in the 10 years we’ve been operating, we wanted to acknowledge these special pigs today. Eight of the Indy Pigs live at Hog Haven, and they’re doing well five years later! Edna did have a cancerous mammary tumor removed earlier this year, and Mufasa has an advanced case of skin cancer, but they’re happy and thriving and receiving the best care we can provide 🩵

We’re so glad we were able to participate in this situation and provide a safe landing for these friends. Most of them are still really timid, with Mr. Smee being the only really outgoing pig from the group.

Morrissey is 17 today! 🤯

This handsome, gentle, sweet boy came to Hog Haven Farm 6 years ago, after his owner was in an accident and could no longer provide care for him. He was very well loved, and had originally been purchased at an auction to be saved from an ill fate. Though he’s one of the most senior pigs at HHF, Morrissey is really active and doing incredibly well. He does have mild arthritis, to be expected, but overall he’s in great health at 17 🥰

Hans celebrated his second birthday yesterday! See the progression of his growth since he was rescued in June 2022 🥰

Saved from euthanasia at a livestock auction, Hans was a really sickly piglet. The rest of his family were sold to be raised for slaughter, and he was going to be ‘culled’ because of his condition. We are forever grateful to the kind human who happened to be at the auction and didn’t want Hans to have a tragic fate.

Hans is still really small for his age and his breed, but we think he’ll have a major growth spurt this year! He has a vibrant personality, and loves living his best life in sanctuary among friends (especially his bestie, Franz).

Happy birthday, Hansie 🩵

When food lady puts sunscreen on you, you show her how it’s really done 🤣

Milo, and all of the pink pigs, are especially prone to sunburn with their fair skin. When they wallow in the mud, it protects their skin naturally—and also helps repel pesky insects! Some of our pink piggies will not utilize the mud, so we use a sunscreen spray to ensure they’re protected from the intense rays.

Our Story

It all started with a little Pipsqueak...

In 2014, founders Erin and Andrew adopted a little potbellied pig from a Craigslist ad--and the rest, you can say, is history! This little pig changed their lives, and inspired them to start Hog Haven Farm. In five years, more than 275 pigs have been rescued, and more than 100 have found their forever families! Hog Haven Farm rescues all breeds of pig, though most are abandoned, abused or neglected potbellies, once purchased as pets. Pigs are intelligent, emotional, and highly personable beings; those who cannot be adopted as pets live out their natural lives at Hog Haven Farm!

Our mission is to provide a safe environment for potbellied pigs that are rescued from situations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. HHF strives to promote compassion for all animals, and to allow these animals to live happy lives without fear and suffering. We currently offer therapy pet programs across the Denver metro area, and our list includes memory care facilities, nursing homes, assisted living communities, libraries, and more! In the long term, Hog Haven Farm aims to: • Promote potbellied pigs as the third recognized domesticated animal and pet by providing education and resources to the general public • Provide a safe home for rescued pigs to call home; a place for rehabilitation; and a welcoming environment for the community to become better acquainted with animals associated with food • Educate the community about potbelly pigs as creatures and pets • Educate the community about farm animals through volunteer programs, organization visits to the farm (schools, etc.), and allow community to work directly with the animals to learn more about them • Educate the community about sustainable food options; farm animals are more than dinner, and educational programs are paramount in creating change within the food industry • Create outreach program for children with autism (research strongly suggests that animals increase positive social behaviors with children that have ASD)
