Happy Friday!

As we near the end of January and the warmer months ahead, we’re reaching out for your support. This $5 Friday, we are asking for donations to help fund the purchase of pallets of food for the cats and dogs of Hard Licker Ranch.

We rent a U-Haul to pick up the pallets, and each pallet costs approximately $100. If 20 of our followers sent $5, we could purchase a pallet! Any contribution, big or small, will make a significant difference in helping us care for these animals.

‼️ELLIE IS OUR 4TH LONGEST RESIDENT‼️ LOOKING FOR A HOME SINCE 8/13/23‼️Ellie is a beautiful young girl that found her way to us after being found as a stray. She is a playful, affectionate, athletic, high energy pup. Squirrels get her attention and she loves to chase them, so best to have her in a fenced in yard.

Ellie finds enjoyment in all humans! She does AMAZING with kids. Give her a lap and she will crawl right in for snuggles. She has learned stay and is good about listening around open doors, and we know she could learn so much more as she loves to try new things and please her owners. She would be best as an only pet. If you’re an active family with kids and no other pets, please consider Ellie! She is fantastic!

Today was Dutch’s freedom ride out of the shelter and into temp foster! We can honestly ask, why was he looked over for so long? 🤯 Dutch is a giant, gentle baby. He is so incredibly sweet. He knows ‘shake’, ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘up’, he appears to be potty trained, he gets along with other dogs, and he’s been overlooked for 2 months with no interest! He has an incredibly friendly demeanor, he has a very goofy personality, and he listens when he needs to. An amazing vet tech at one of our veterinary clinics offered to temporarily foster him. She even managed to squeeze him in today for his neuter and vaccines!

Dutch will become available for adoption once he heals up and decompresses. He has some sores on his paws from licking them raw in the shelter. He has ‘happy tail’ which left a wound at the tip of his tail because he wags it so much. He needs to gain some weight as well but he will be there in no time! If you’re interested in adding an 80lb goober to your family, please consider Dutch! 😉

We are seeking immediate breed-experienced placement for our big guy, Hoss! Whether it be a foster, adopter, or foster-to-adopt. Hoss has been in foster since early October and needs a new place to land! Here’s what we know:

❤️- Presa/Rottweiler mix weighing at about 135 lbs.
🐾- Gets along with other dogs, especially female dogs.
❤️- Neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and on HW & flea/tick prevention.
🐾- Has not been around cats.
❤️- Crate and potty trained.
🐾- He loves everyone he meets, he’s a big baby.
❤️- Tries to climb in your lap when you’re driving. Not a good car rider. 😂

He is extremely sweet & affectionate however he has shown signs of being overly protective of his things. It’s not often, but he has priorly indicated he didn’t want some of his things touched. If you know the breed, you know it’s common for Presa’s/Rottweiler’s to be protective. To prevent future incidents from happening he must go to a breed-experienced home with no children. We understand he may need training to help correct it, and we will help with that. Training is intimate and can only work if his person works with him, so he needs someone dedicated to him!

Please don’t let it hinder you from the fact that Hoss is an amazing boy. His current foster loves him dearly and she advocates for his sweetness. Macomber is a 3 yr old pittie mix that has been in a shelter far too long. He’s shutting down. He would be great with a dog friend with slow introduction. No cats or small animals. He’s stupid friendly and loves attention. He’s a shelter staff favorite that’s being overlooked. He’s already fully vetted.

Russell is an 8 month old emaciated Cane Corso mix. No vetting done but we will provide that. Very very friendly, could do good with other animals. Hasn’t been cat tested.

Dutch is a 3 yr old Great Dane mix, friendly and sweet as can be. He’s living on borrowed time at the shelter, being the longest resident. He would be good with other dogs with slow introductions. He’s gentle and affectionate.

It’s been a busy weekend! With recent adoptions we were able to pull 2 new dogs from our friends at Lucas County Canine Care & Control ❤️ In addition we were able to help out our friends at Save Monroe Strays Rescue and take in a pup that was having a hard time being adopted. He’s remaining with his amazing foster and we will be helping him find a home in the meantime! Introducing:

🦎 Gecko- Appox 9/10 month old (suspected) Pitty/Malinois mix! He is a nervous nelly at first but warms up so nicely! He is already neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated so he is ready to go! He is very friendly, gets along with other dogs, and knows basic commands. Very sweet boy.

🥒 Ms. Pickles- Approx 3 years old (suspected) Pitty/Cattle Dog mix. She’s smaller than she appears weighing about 40lbs. She is sweet as can be with high energy! She gets along with other dogs, she’s already spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated so she is ready to go! She knows basic commands and got the hang of the doggy door immediately.

🐕 Clifford- A sweet 2-3 year-old dog looking for his forever home! He loves playing ball, hanging out with his foster siblings, and going on walks. Good with other dogs but doesn’t do well with smaller animals. He completed heartworm treatment, he’s crate & potty trained, and follows commands as well as takes treats gently. He would do good in a home with older, calm children. He is fully vetted and ready to go!

You could also get 2 dogs for them to keep each other company. 😉

Your dog would rather be alone in his comfy, familiar home while the humans he loves work than to be surrendered to a strange, loud, scary shelter surrounded by strangers. If that is your reasoning to get rid of your dog, maybe think about who's life you are trying to make easier.

FYI, dogs sleep 12 to 14 hours a day......lucky furballs.
