The four little survivors. Their mom Stellaluna and cousin Quill also survived. These guys look a little rough, but their coats will come back. Their prognosis is excellent now, with only Sweethearts (first puppy on the left) having possible future implications owing to needing some super heavy duty antibiotics which can affect growth. They are now 14 weeks old, so charmingly gawky. I’m grateful for the work of the vets and staff at Vogel Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital, the only non-corporate animal specialty hospital in NH. The cost of saving them, all six, was $62,283.91. Plus my own vets, specialty supplies, special vaccines, care for the younger babies, and so forth. So the original estimate was a bit optimistic. Except for Gecko and El Paso (AKA Beto) whose treatment was a little over 2k each. Sweethearts was over 20k. So a bit of a range. I didn’t get the last of the invoices until today. I’m going to try to find a job to help pay off the remaining bill. I’ve knocked it down by about a third, with help from those who chipped in. That doesn’t include the GoFundMe, though. I have to figure out how that works still. Mostly what I do is care for everyone and disinfect over and over and over again. My property may not be safe for puppies again for years. If I could, I would bulldoze it and move away.

Good news: baby puppies seem better and all are eating now, even Mister Just Ducky. I remain vigilant, but I a very grateful.

Bad news: Ivy is having seizures so we’re off to the vet’s. She’s an 10 year old Padraig and Ella daughter.

This is a video I made last night, of the baby puppies. Tonight I’m desperately worried about them, as the biggest one seems off. It could be just a reaction to the vaccine, but I think at this point I don’t feel that lucky. I’m not sure what to do. They’re too young for the treatments. I feel sick.

Update: something to be thankful for: Quill seems all right now. I think she was freaked out over Pinky’s death, which happened right in front of her. Quill is very sensitive. She was Miss Sweethearts in the 11/22 Rhys-Eilidh litter. This is especially good because my Highlander is dead in the driveway. No word from the veterinary hospital yet, but I’m hoping Stellaluna and the puppies are improving. Sweethearts may have turned a corner yesterday, she was the first and worst stricken of the puppies. Updates: it’s a very mixed bag.
First, Stellaluna, Hoot Owl, and Sweethearts are making strides towards recovery.
They’re still hospitalized, but may be able to come home tomorrow.
El Paso and Gecko are doing great; it’s as if they were never sick. Eating, eating, eating, definitely making up for lost time!
Twee, Gary, and Butterfly were all sick last night and/or this morning. Now they seem fine, keeping a close eye on them. They may have just reacted to the booster shots they got. Fingers crossed for that. Twee’s babies are still okay, but have a ways to go before they can be vaccinated.
The worst thing: my little Pinky Winky died. She got sick and died so quickly and horribly that there wasn’t even time to move her. It was truly awful and broke my heart. She was a funny, quirky little thing, and I loved her dearly. She was also not quite four and a half years old. I’m terrified for my dogs. The vets say this is an extremely virulent strain of the virus. Please, if you can, share the Go Fund Me. The latest additional estimates are also terrifying. It’s been an awful day.

Update. I’m taking the three puppies at home back to the hospital for further treatment. This is part of the outpatient procedure, but they are having a hard time with eating. And medications. Everyone else is still okay. I’m a bit sleep-deprived. Sweethearts is still hospitalized and had to be given some very strong antibiotics that may cause orthopedic complications later. But it was necessary, and I’ll just keep her and we’ll deal with whatever when we have to, so the only thing I require is that she live.

Update: sorry, to be so long in this but I’ve been cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, in order to kill something invisible, after getting home from the vet hospital at about six this morning. I’ve ordered proper virus killing cleaners, because even cleaners that claim to kill parvo don’t necessarily do so. Three of the puppies ended up staying at the emergency hospital, and Hoot Owl came home with me. El Paso almost came home with me, but he took a bad turn and ended up staying. That’s why his estimate is revised. I need to also get some medical type defense clothing, so I don’t end up throwing out all my clothes. Washing them in hot water with a heavy dose of bleach is essentially the same as throwing them out. Hoot Owl 🦉 finally got sick this afternoon, but he’s not too bad. El Paso is better enough now to go home. I have to go shopping first, though, more cleaning stuff, virus killing spray for the yards, FOOD. I just hate leaving Hoot Owl even for not that long. Here are some photos. And the estimates, which I’m posting because I have been asked Toby several people. My Venmo info is in the comments, again, because people have asked, and without help I could not save my puppies. If you want to tell me how horrible I and all dog breeders are, kindly skip it. I feel bad enough as it is, and my love for my dogs is well known to those who actually know me. Thank you all for all the sympathy and encouragement; it’s held me up and kept me going.

Update. My puppies have parvovirus. I don’t know how or why. One at least will have to stay and my old dogs and new litter are at risk. I have to throw out everything they’ve touched. I just tried to borrow enough to treat them, but I could only borrow part. They showed me an estimate, but haven’t given it to me yet. I’m in my car in the parking lot because I’m contaminated. My clothes will have to be thrown out. They’re going to give me protocols for killing it because it gets in everything and is wildly contagious. I will update as soon as I can.

Update: we’re at Vogel Emergency Veterinary Hospital. Three of the puppies have been sick, but no where near as bad as Miss Sweethearts. Mister Hoot Owl wants to know what the heck is wrong with everybody as he feels great. But he’s here too. We’re waiting for parvo test results. Will update soon. Parvo would be worst case scenario .

One of Stellaluna’s puppies is sick and I’m pretty worried about her. She needs to go to the emergency vet, but we can’t because they’re $$$$ and I’m broke. All the vet costs of the last few months plus the endless copays for my own ER stuff has taken a toll on the exchequer. I still owe my regular vet for the day she was born, so I don’t know if they’ll see her. I’m going to try talking them into it. Sigh. I know a lot of dog lovers have been here.
