The boys got adopted, together!

First, a little back story.

Last August a man came in with two 4 month old orange kittens. At the time, FFRC was full and couldn’t take them. But the man said he would do a very bad thing to both if we didn’t take them. But we are not going to give that man one more thought. Our time and energy is too important to focus on that, let’s focus on the boys.

And so, Hooper and Hopper came to FFRC to get away from this terrible man and give them hope of finding a family. While we would love siblings to be adopted together, sometimes that’s not possible. But in this case, the family came in and fell in love with both. It seemed only right that both boys would stay a family and be each other’s best friend and brother forever.

Their new mom’s Father is a retired veterinarian which is gravy on top! The boys will probably be getting new names, we’ll know later.

So these brothers who came to us afraid and shaking, leave confident and knowing nothing but love for the past 5 months. Going forward they will be loved, well cared for and best of all, together. What a great day for brothers everywhere.

Also Donny: I kinda want to smack him.

Cats, unable to make up their minds for thousands of years.

This is Halo. She's 8 months old and was found on the property just hanging out last August. She's very laid back and as this photo by Dawn E. shows, she would love to give you a hug.

Advice, wear several layers of clothing if you come to visit. Just saying..

Our adorable Allen was adopted today! This cutie was found in a yard with three siblings last May. They were only a few weeks old. Sadly one of them had passed but Allen, Donnie and Dark Cat survived and were brought to FFRC.

We have watched him grow up before our eyes. Dark Cat was adopted in September and Donnie waits for his family to figure out they need him.

But today, Allen goes home. He’ll be spoiled, he’ll be loved. He’s 8 months old now and is ready to thrive in his very own home.

As with just about all orange kitties, he’ll be loving and will shine brightly every day.

Good luck sweet Allen, you have your whole life ahead of you to jump and catch the red dot, and you will catch that light some day!

Remember, the world is full of endless fun, enjoy every day sweet Allen.

There are some people that shouldn’t have a cat. There’s no easier way to say that.

Sometimes if you have a cat, life changes and you need to find somewhere for them to be safe, taken care of, to live. So you do that. You do the humane thing. You find them a home or find them someone who you know will find them a home. It’s what honorable, decent people do.

But some people put them outside and leave them. They leave them to fend for themselves. They show their cruelty.

Last November, a 6 year old cat was put out on the porch of a family that moved away. They couldn’t take the cat and made the decision to leave him to fend for himself. With his front paws declawed, they chose to just drive away.

The neighbors saw but couldn’t catch him to help.

A week before Thanksgiving, a Fedex driver saw this poor kitty, with fleas, ear mites missing teeth and a broken lower tooth. He spoke with neighbors who said the family simply left him two weeks earlier. They drove away with him on the porch. For two weeks, he waited for them to come home. They never did.

Some neighbors tried to help with food, but he was scared and would hide when anyone approached. But on this day, he let the Fedex driver catch him. Maybe he was at a breaking point, maybe he sensed that this man in a big truck with lots of boxes was trying to help. And he was right, the man knew about FFRC and put the cat in the truck and went to FFRC.

Sometimes we overlook the quiet acts of quiet heroes. Sometimes we overlook good people doing good things. This little boy was saved by a man doing the humane thing, doing the right thing.

And so scared Dutton came to FFRC to be nursed back to health and to have his faith in people restored. It took him a while but eventually he would come into the main Center and walk around, even play sometimes. He loves feathers and kickaroos. But he’s not a fan of a lot of kittens making a lot of noise. He’s been through so much and just wanted to relax, put the stress behind.

The family that adopted a similar cat last August (Sanford) had decided to come and bring Sanford’s sister Piet home. They had seen Dutton on the cam and fell in love. So when they came yesterday to pick up Piet, they met Dutton and it was instant love. So Dutton went home with Piet and will soon meet Sanford. D

Dutton now has a true family that promises they will never leave him behind. They will simply love him forever.

Congratulations Dutton, we are so happy for you. And remember most people are good people, focus on that and remember you are loved by all of us.

And one more thing, Dutton’s new family showed a video of Sanford playing and being a loved, happy cat. Dutton will now know what family really means.

It’s ok to cry at this one. Happy tears, though, happy tears indeed.

In late 2013 early 2014, a sweet kitten named Piet was adopted. Her family promised to love her and care for her forever. They renamed her Pizzelle.

In 2016 the same family adopted Sanford as a kitten.

New brother and sister lived as a family for many years, comfortably together. So while they were not blood siblings, they were siblings in every other sense of the word. In April 2023 both were surrendered back to FFRC due to family dynamics changing.

Taken from their home, both were scared and confused. Especially Piet. She wanted nothing to do with anything. She spent most days up high, away from the other cats. Sanford was also scared but he eventually would come out and roam around.

Sanford was adopted in August, 2024 by a family that traveled all the way from Indiana to bring him home (about 45 minutes away).

11 year old Piet found her comfort place in Nyota’s Nest. There, she would be away from kittens and the chaos that sometimes takes place in the Center. The girls in Nyota’s Nest, prefer quiet. They bother no one and no one bothers them. They receive special love and attention from the staff, who know their likes, their dislikes, their personalities. Piet is a talkative cat and she does love chin scratches very much.

More than likely, Piet would spend the rest of her life in the quietness of Nyota’s Nest. While better than the Kabana or the main Center, it wasn’t the family she thought she would have forever.

On Tuesday, January 21, Piet was reunited with her brother. The family that gave Sanford a home and a new chapter in his life, filled with everlasting love, decided they would like another cat, and why not bring these two back together as a family.

So, Piet is now with her brother, once again and hopefully, forever. She deserves another chance at family, another chance at Happily Ever After.

She now has that chance. Today her life is with her family. Her brother, Sanford, and her new brother Dutton is coming along (we’ll share that story next).

Piet, you deserve this sweetie. Enjoy the rest of your life, with your family. Because family is supposed to be forever and you will have a wonderful family, forever.

This was a surprise! Our Foxy was adopted, and she stays in the family, sorta. The woman adopting Foxy is Megan’s husband’s aunt.

Foxy came to us in April, 2024 and she is 9 years old! Yup, another Senior cat finds a home! Her birthday is 8/7/2015. She’s a tortoise with beautiful markings.

She was originally found wandering a neighborhood, looking thin and was very hungry. She just looked terrible and we had serious doubts if she would make it. She weighed only 4 lbs. But anyone who’s ever had a Torti knows they are strong willed and tough. She pulled through!

Foxy prefers low key and quiet times. She gets a little stressed with other cats around so it is perfect that she is going to a home where she will be the only cat! And she’ll keep her name.

This sweet oldster is going to be much loved and will thrive in a quiet home. She will also never have to worry about being hungry again.

We are so happy for you Foxy, you deserve this next chapter in your life where you will be the center of attention and allowed to be you!

Love you always, special girl.

FFRC Weekly Blog Week Ending January 18, 2025

Adoptions:

None, but several coming up!

New Cats:

Stubbs: White kitty with black markings. Male about 4 months old with a shortened tail (not sure if short by injury or born that way). He was found wandering around outside by a sister of a friend of a friend of a sister (or something like that!) He’s a purrer, a big biscuit maker and very cool with everything. Speaking of cool, we have no doubt he’s happy to be inside where it is nice and warm.

Health Updates:

Steven’s “pillow foot” is looking a little better after a few days of treatment. This is a long healing process, but Steven actually seems to be enjoying being in his own pen. He likes his beauty sleep.

While there are a few cats with some sniffles and winter yuckies, everyone is doing well.

Other Updates:
The annual Betty White Challenge was a great week of celebrating a wonderful animal advocate while raising money for FFRC. Our Friends, once again, stepped up and helped us pay off some large bills for medicine, litter and insurance.

Last year $11,287.11 was raised and this year $13,475 was raised! Despite inflation, and so many natural disasters affecting so many, our Friends went above and beyond. We are truly blessed. Thank you, thank you, thank you. To those who were able to give and those who couldn’t give financially but gave through prayers and encouragement, we are so grateful and blessed.

And how wonderful is it that over three years since her passing, people all over the world honored and celebrated one person who touched so many lives, both human and furry? Betty White’s legacy lives on and as long as there are animals in need, will continue for many, many years to come.

Holds:
This one will make you smile and shout with joy: Piet will be adopted on Tuesday, time will be announced later.

Piet is 11 years old (yup, you read that right, 11 years old!) and will be adopted by the family that adopted Sanford!! For those who didn’t know, Sanford was adopted as a kitten from FFRC in 2016, he was adopted into a home that had adopted Piet in 2013. So while they were not blood siblings, they were siblings in every other sense of the word. In April 2023 both were surrendered back to FFRC due to family dynamics changing.
Sanford was adopted in August, 2024 and the family decided he needed his sister back so Piet and Sanford will once again be sharing a home together!

More good news, Hooper and Hopper are going to be adopted, together! The brothers get to go together, brothers forever! Adoption is tentatively scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 pmish.

If you watch carefully, you will see Catalina stroll by. She is the beautiful all white kitty that was found by a local just wondering around. We are glad she's inside where it's safe and warm! We think she's around 1 but a lady never tells her age.

Rumpelstiltskin and Purrscilla discussing the $1,450 kitty litter bill that just came in. They are worried some cats are taking advantage of 23 litter boxes in the center.

This week, The Betty White Challenge is going on. Betty White always said "don't forget to laugh" and for almost 100 years she laughed and continues to make us laugh. If you can help with the kitty litter bill, well that's great. Give a donation if you can and whether you do or don't, just remember to laugh, it'll make you feel good.

The link to help is in the comments. And don't worry, we've explained to the cats we'll make sure the litter boxes never stop getting filled, by us or them!
