December 13th

Greetings & salutations, Santa!

I'm writing to you to ask a big-big favor, which I know is the same as we wished for last year. My little sister Molly convinced me to write to you - she's soft spoken, and a little nervous asking again, so she figured I would do a better job chatting you up!

Molly and I aren't siblings, but we are a matched pair of best friends, and have been for many years. Beautiful Molly is a 9 year old Akita mix - she is literally like a big, gentle teddy bear, and it seems very hard for people to walk away after hugging her. I am of course a very handsome husky who is 10 years young. We certainly don't show our age! Being "northern breeds" we don't mind the winter cold and snow. You could find us walking on the trails without end (we both walk great on leash), if it weren't for our human friends being ready to return to the warm shelter building. We both enjoy the salon experience of getting brushed out - and we tolerate our friends plucking our errant, fluffy tufts. These humans can't pick without telling us over and over how good of dogs we are, so it's great. We like going into the fenced pen that the people here built for all of us puppers - it is so nice to be free to roam and sniff to our hearts content. I have to say, waiting patiently for our turn to go in is sometimes hard, and it's kind of a bummer when our favorite toys are already slobbered on.

We love our human friends that come to walk & play with us, so much so that we get a bit rambunctious and overjoyed when they come to see us. I am very outgoing, but Molly tends to be shy with new people. I tell ya, though, once she knows you, she hops with happiness! She stays pretty quiet most of the time, but me? Haaa! Besides being a typical howling husky, I am learning how to say, "I Love Youuu" to my friends here. It makes them laugh when I get close to it, so it's nice to bring joy to others. Especially for all the time and loving attention they give us every day.

If you remember, we were once in a home together - we were surrendered to Lakeland Animal Shelter back in January 2024 after being found separately as strays. We still have each other, and our friends here spoil us with long treks, snuggles, scritches, and treats, but it would be really nice to have a new home. A forever home together. We love kids of all ages (once we get to know them), but with both of us being larger dogs, it is probably best to be adopted by a family that has kids as old as us in human years. We get along alright with most of the other dogs here, too, playing in the separate dog runs beside them. We've been on trips to visit people (I think our friends call them "outreaches"), and always do very well with the doggie friends that come along. I guess it would depend on another dog in the home whether we would click, but meets can certainly be set up with the staff here. And then there are cats. Yeah, no thank you. I got in trouble for thinking they were something fun to chase, so I don't want that again.

So Santa, could you check your list once more this year to see if there is anyone that would like to take us into their home for the holidays?

Thank youuu-uuu-uuuu! (that was husky-speak),

Hershey, with Molly

Hershey & Molly came to the shelter as stray that were chipped, owners didn’t come for them.
•10 and 9 years old
•Negative for heart worm
•Microchip
•Neutered/Spayed
•NO CATS
•Have gone out to many events and done well!
•Molly NEEDS Hershey more than Hershey needs Molly -
The last time they came in as strays Molly came in first. For 8 days Molly was miserable. She was sad and depressed. As soon as Hershey walked in as a stray Molly immediately was happy and couldn’t wait to be with her brother again. She has been his follower ever since.

December 13th

Hi Santa Man!

This here's Blue, I like to "roo-roo-roo" - how do you do?

I know you probably didn't want to come around to find my sister Star and I still here at the shelter. I am sure you have put out good words about us to people in our community, but it just doesn't seem to work out. This is the third Christmas letter we have written to you, coming up on the fourth year in March we have lived here.

If you remember, we were found as strays in Delavan back in late winter 2023. I, myself, had hunkered down near the lake shore, when concerned people called the police. I was quite scared of the officers that came to find me, and for good reason. Ya see, my sister Star had also been roaming free in the area, and without her, I wasn't sure what to do or who to trust. Shelter staff who had come to see me weren't so sure how best to get me back to the warmth of a kennel at the shelter - although I have some thick fur being a big husky, the worried ladies weren't sure if I was injured or sick. Well, low and behold (no offense to the ladies), I let them know I liked men better. A kind soul sat down and enticed me out with pepperoni and a couple packs of cheese & crackers - thank God for spouses of staff that also go the distance for the animals of Walworth County! Once we got to the shelter, *another* call came in about *another* husky seen running in that same area. Staff went out, brought her back, and we showed them we instantly recognized each other. I was so relieved to be reunited with my best friend! We were microchipped, but our old owner who now lived out of state had given us away to other people, who gave us to another person, and... yeah, we were never claimed. At least the staff found out our names and ages, so being lost but still having our identity was good.

That guy that came to save me has become my bestest friend, and I will go anywhere with him. Unfortunately, their family has other dogs and cats in their home, so that's a no-go. I find little furry animals disturbing and want to chase them. Being more outgoing, Star gets to go on trips to meet and greet people, but I have to stick around because I still get a bit nervous in crowds of people, and, admittedly, I run small children over. I mean, look at me - I am a big handsome Alaskan lunk. So a home without kitties or small pets, with older children would be best for us. And, not to rat her out, Star prides herself on being a bit of an escape artist, so a fenced in yard would be best. A tall, reinforced fence. She is too smart for everyone's good, gets bored, and likes that challenge to take herself for a solo trek. She has scaled the 7 foot outdoor runs here, and actually dug under them, removing feet of gravel & stone to wiggle under! If there is a downside to Star, that's it. Oh, and she can be very loud with her yippy, husky happiness. So dramatic. Yeah, ok, you might guess I do enjoy the quiet at times when she goes on outings. I do behave very well when I get to ride on the shelter float in the annual Christmas parade. The astonished adoration Star and I get from all those people brings us much Christmas joy - we are indeed quite a set! I just hope that there is someone in the crowd that will consider taking us home.

We really can't complain about the love and affection we receive here from staff and volunteers. They are a very special group of dedicated humans, walking us endlessly, trudging through the snow banks to their furless bodies' detriment. Huskies and snow - go figure! But even though we get all the exercise we want throughout the day, and probably more treats than we need, we're still missing a home where we can lounge together on a couch large enough for an elephant. Sometimes I have a hard enough time sharing b***y scratches and neck scritches from our human friends with Star. I think you can agree that she *is* quite a Siberian beauty with her crystal blue eyes and pure white fur, so I can understand why she commands the focus away from me. We like to chase each other and play tug in the large outdoor pen - don't tell Star, but I usually let her win. We do get along with other dogs here at the shelter. But, if I got the choice, I think I'd rather it just be the two of us in the home. I mean, seriously, with both of us endearing bandits, how much more loving (cough cough - furballs) do you need in a house? A family that has husky experience is required - as you read, we are a sledload of fluff! Get it? I made a husky joke.

Thanks for all you do, Santa - here's hoping that this year is our year to find our furr-ever home!

December 12th

Dear Santa,

My name is Anita Baker, & I was told I could write you a letter with my Christmas wish. My Christmas wish this year is to find my forever home! I have had many homes so far in my life & unfortunately those families could not keep me & that is how I ended up here at the shelter.

I have made some friends here at the shelter & I really love it when they take me for walks! While I wait for my friends to take me for my walks, I love to sing them songs till they come get me. I have a very nice voice & everyone knows when I am singing my songs. My friends tell me that I am a sweet girl & I really do enjoy meeting new people & going on adventures!

So, Santa, I know I have had a lot of homes, but can you please help me find my last one & it be my forever home? A fun-loving family that wants to cuddle on the couch with all my stuffies since those are my favorite & take me on fun adventures so I can see all the fun & exciting things. Thank you, Santa, for thinking of me this Christmas & helping me find my family!

From the best girl,
Anita Baker

December 11th

Dear Santa,
I'm Pita and I heard that you are helping the residents here find their much deserved forever homes for Christmas.
I may be a bit shy at first, but once I know you I will be so excited to be with you. I love to be petted, getting belly rubs and giving kisses.
I enjoy being in the yard so I can run and get my zoomies out. I am not sure about toys, but I love my people.

I also like being inside just laying on the couch cuddlingwith my people friends.

It is my biggest wish to find a home for Christmas. I really am a sweet girl, but need someone that would be patient with me so I can get to know you at my own pace. Please consider giving me the home I have been waiting for.

Love,
Pita
