Lakeland Animal Shelter Amazing Adoption Update

My husband and I adopted our beloved dog Venus in July of 2019. We were told she surrendered and came from Corpus Christi, Texas. We could not agree on a new name so we decided not to confuse her even more and leave it Venus. Since day one she has been our little shadow, always by our sides following us around. Although she was shy when we first adopted her, she warmed up quickly. She was extra cautious with men and still to this day is a bit, but will warm up very quickly. She has come such a long way since then! She is our little girl. She stole our heart and soul since the minute we met her! Thank you so much to Lakeland Animal Shelter for rescuing this little girl all the way from Texas!

Lakeland Animal Shelter Amazing Adoption Update

I adopted three cats: shelter names were Abel (2024), Louie (2020), and ChaCha (2019). All of them have such different personalities and we adore them all for different reasons. ChaCha is now known as Henny. She makes the most interesting noises and chirps through the house. Louie is now known as Bernie. He was very sick as a kitten, but we’re happy to report he’s grown to be a strong, vocal cat who is happy to snuggle under a blanket with his favorite person (my dad) all day! Henny is the grey cat in front of the fireplace in photos. Bernie is the one with the puffball in his mouth! Abel, a black and white long haired cat known as Socrates now, is the sweetest thing! He was found in the dump in January of 2024 and came home in February. He has helped me through the grief of losing my childhood cat this past year. He jumps on his back legs to get love and affection and made best friends with a Maine Coone twice his size. I am so grateful for him!

Lakeland Animal Shelter Amazing Adoption Update

We’re so thankful for everything that Lakeland does. Adopting Teddy (previously Mortimer) and Cookie (previously Madeline) was the most spontaneous and one of the best decisions my husband and I have made.

We lost one of our 15 year old littermates in November. We and our other littermate, Cucpake, were heartbroken. The weekend before Christmas my daughter and I scrolled Facebook at the perfect moment when an adorable mama dog and her babies were posted. The mama dog looked just like our dog's mother and the pups looked just like our pups as babies. My husband shockingly said we could put in an application. We got a call on Monday morning and scheduled a time to meet the two remaining pups. We asked to adopt both, but due to high-interest, we could not. On December 23rd, we left with Teddy (formerly Mortimer).

We received a call right away on December 26th asking if we would still like to adopt the remaining little girl, Cookie (formerly Madeline). We said of course! We loved having our other littermates for 15 years and were thrilled to do it again!

We have had some ups and downs with adopting two puppies, having a 15 year old dog, a wild toddler and a 9 year old child. Things have calmed down a lot and these are definitely some of the best days of our lives. The girls are thrilled to have young pups that interact, snuggle, and play with them. Our prior pups were older and never wanted much to do with them.

Lakeland Animal Shelter Amazing Adoption Update

We adopted Faith (now Remi) in October of 2023. She is a bundle of energy and joy! She makes us laugh every day and loves to play with her doggie sister (and try to play with her cat siblings). We love her so much!

with our crazy Daisy girl!

Daisy has come so far in the shelter. She was a local stray that was shy and unsure of what had happened to her. After time spend walking, playing and gaining her trust, she is now the amazing girl you see today!

Lakeland Animal Shelter Amazing Adoption Update

We adopted Hugo in June of 2024. As soon as I saw Hugo, I knew he was our dog. It was an instant connection. He’s my soul dog and savior. He truly is a gift from up above. Thank you so much Lakeland Animal Shelter for our sweet boy.

He is the most protective, loyal, goofiest, and funniest dog. He absolutely LOVES fries and pup-cups. He loves hiking, walks, playing with his dog friends, and the zoomies! Don’t even mention swimming, he’ll glare at you and run in the opposite direction of you. It still takes a while for him to warm up to people, but once he does, he loves you! Recently he gave us a health scare and ended up getting diagnosed with epilepsy (which his human mom has as well). Besides that, he’s as healthy as can be!

Lakeland Animal Shelter Amazing Adoption Update

I adopted my Lucielle (Lucy) from Lakeland in November 2024. She is completely attached to me at the hip, even after she dealt with an 18 hour car ride down to Florida where I worked at Disney for 10 months. How often can you say a cat lived at Disney World!! I am so grateful that I got to adopt such an awesome sassy girl! Love that tortie attitude!

It’s a with Dodger!

Dodger made an appearance at the Walworth County Fair with his siblings. Now he is the last of his litter looking for a home.

Dodger has done well on leash training - he had NONE when he entered the shelter. The world is big a scary for him. He needs a little help gaining confidence. Another dog might be what he needs.

Dodger has been good with kids and other dogs, loves toys and trying his hardest to be housetrained, but knows he has a long way to go with it.

Ask about this goofy boy today!
