After 366 days of waiting for the perfect home, we can officially say PRINCESS and SWEETPEA have left the building!!

If you have stopped by the shelter you would almost ALWAYS notice them laying next to each other, giving head bumps or cleaning each other. These sisters were the most bonded pair we have ever seen.

Back story - they originally came from a home that would find strays, befriend them, get them fixed and had them live in a barn that was sections of different rooms. Though the cats were great with the owner, they had a lot of work to include strangers into their circle. It ended up being 30 cats in total. A relative of the owner reached out when the owner’s health declined and asked for help. Though a good amount of the kitties from them had found homes, cats like Sweetpea and Princess weren’t picked.

366 days and now living the life in a forever home! Congrats to the new family made and thank you for choosing adoption!

Missy was all smiles as she went for her car ride with her volunteer pal.

Missy was adopted from the shelter as a pup. But after time in the home the dogs no longer were get along, Missy ended up coming back.

When Missy came back she was shy, timid and not interested in meeting new people. That has changed! She now gets to have car rides, walks through the front office and playtime with her people friends.

Missy has been waiting since September 2023 for her chance to blossom in a home just for her.

Coco was wandering looking for a new home when he stumbled upon a farm with other felines to hang out. But Coco wanted to be Top Kitty of the barn which wasn’t an option with the others, who had welcomed him at first.

Knowing what had happened prior to coming to the shelter we were a little worried about adding him to a colony room. Well, he’s done wonderful here! He keeps to himself and doesn’t make waves with others in the room. Coco isn’t one that will run to meet you but wait for you to come to him.

Remember out reduced FELINE fees is until August 12th. We are happy to see our feline friends finding the perfect homes so far!

We have received many applications and are working as fast as we can. Application processing is 24-48 hours, please be patient with our staff. It is always best to have that application approved prior to your visit to ensure being able to add to your family that day.

Caramel & Thumper are smaller girls that came in due to the other pigs not being so friendly with them. Both are working on their social skills.

Clover & Bacon are a little older (1 year old!) than the other 2 and have been handled a lot in their last home.

Hello! My name is Zenni! I'm a sweet older gentleman that was found wandering the Delavan streets months ago. When I came into the shelter the staff could tell something wasn't quite right. A vet visit was scheduled to find out what was wrong with me. Did you know the shelter I'm staying with doesn't have a vet. The staff have to get the animals in when the vet is able to see them, I think this is what normal owners would do too? Turns out I have a couple things they give me a nasty tasting medicine for. I have high Blood Pressure and Thyroid. I scared the staff to death when I had a couple seizures. Ooops! I guess you can say I'm a slight mess but make up for all the love I can give!

Evening a room for 20+ cats Tycho and Hypatia find each other. This sibling pair came to us at a young age and has been waiting for the perfect home. When they came to us they didn’t care for human interaction. In fact, they would hiss and hide when a person came around. Fast forward to now and they will sitting the open to see who is coming in and feeding them. They are still shy and will only allow slow meetings, but making strides. Adopt Missy!

The saying more is better fits with these two! Ella and Emma came to the shelter when a home was overloaded with many cats. At first they had separate spaces but Emma didn’t handle that well and refused to be with the kittens. Once put back with her sister she was much more comfortable and happy. The babies have found their forever home but moms are still waiting. Ask about them today!! @adopt

In the last couple months we have seen an increase of FeLV+cats. This is from 2 separate home on different sides of Elkhorn and then a home in Whitewater. What is FeLV? The technical name is Feline Leukemia Virus. Like FIV it can weaken the cat’s immune system and shorten their life. Is FeLV contagious to other cats? Yes it is! It’s easily transmissible between cats by saliva - grooming each other, sharing the same dishes. Cats that are positive are looking for a home with no other felines. They are able to live with other animals such as dogs. **There’s a vaccine that may help the current cat in the home but you would need to reach out to your veterinary to discuss this. Best placement for FeLV kitties? •Someone able to keep the cat indoors only •Taken to regular checkups - maybe even more than normal How long can they live? Cats can live anywhere between 2-5 years, maybe even longer. It’s not something the shelter sees often. Strangely we see more FIV cats enter our shelter. Currently with have babies that are 2 months old up to adults. If you are willing to open your heart and home to these very special babies, please reach out! What a great day for romping around in the yard! Junior’s romp is short lived but he still enjoys it. Junior was a local stray that came to the shelter. After his stray hold he became available for adoption. Junior has been available since August. Almost a whole year of looking for his forever home. Thought Junior is an adorable shortie, he would prefer a home to be spoiled rotten by himself - no kids or other dogs. But a comfy bed and all the treats he can have.
