It is with tremendous sadness that Wags 2 Whiskers and the Dahlstrom Family say goodbye to one of our oldest and dearest clients, Piper. But Piper was so much more than a client, she was family. Over the past 16 years, she became an extension of our fur family, a fixture in our lives long before we had children of our own. In many ways, she was the big sister to our boys.
Piper may have demanded we all bend the knee, but she returned that regal attitude with an abundance of love and affection. That little brown dog had one of the biggest personalities we’ve ever known, and it was a true privilege to care for her for as long as we did.
From her many extended stays while her human mom and dad traveled the world, to her own vacation with us just last summer. Piper was a constant presence and a cherished guest. There will simply never be another Piper.
She knew our beloved Gia, Buddy, and Lambeau — all of whom have crossed the Rainbow Bridge before her. We are certain they were waiting to welcome their old friend with wagging tails and joyful barks.
As for us, Piper has left an everlasting paw print on our hearts.
She never left my side when she was here. Even after she lost her sight and hearing, you’d never know it as she navigated our home effortlessly. She knew exactly where to find me, room by room, led by that determined little beagle nose. And if another dog dared to block her path to the couch (her rightful throne), she would stand her ground and bark until a path was cleared. No going around. No climbing over. Her Royal Majesty demanded the way be made, and we, her loyal subjects, always obeyed.
Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of this remarkable soul.
A dog is not just a furry companion or a helper in the field. They are family. They become part of your very soul. What other creature on this earth loves you more than it loves itself? There is no greater loyalty, no purer bond. Human relationships may falter. Love may fade. But a dog’s love is eternal and unconditional.
We owe dogs so much more than we give. We are the lucky ones…the truly blessed…to have them walk beside us in this life.
Piper, thank you for every moment. We will miss you forever. 💔🐾
