✨✨✨Foster Feature Wednesday! ✨✨✨
Tonight, we are featuring the Leddy family! They have fostered 72 dogs over the past 3 years!
Here’s just one story:🐾
“It’s hard to choose just one dog we’ve fostered to describe their journey, because they’re genuinely all special. Typically, we focus on fostering puppies or those rescued from puppy mills. They often have amazing transformations and recently, we fostered Dorothy, a 2.5-month-old puppy, who was discarded by a mill to be euthanized and had really seemed to have gone through a lot in her short life. She shook, avoided eye contact, and hid in her crate. We bathed her, trimmed her hair, and discovered scars, possibly from burns. At 10 weeks old, she showed signs of both physical and mental trauma.
We spent the first day carrying her around, showing her she was safe and loved. Our kids helped, as mill dogs often trust children. Dorothy slept well her first night and gradually started wagging her tail. We introduced her to our pets, hoping she’d bond with one. She watched them play but hid when approached. With patient social interactions, she began to come out of her shell.
Within a week, Dorothy was eating consistently, playing with our dogs, and greeting us with kisses. She decompressed enough to start basic training and showed her personality. Dorothy was adopted by a patient and kind family who loved her right away, and will help her continue to grow.
I would encourage anyone who has considered fostering a dog to give it a try. These dogs just need a little patience and love to become the best versions of themselves.”
