My Dog Ate Chocolate!
Don’t wait for visible signs if you witness or suspect your pet has ingested chocolate. The sooner a veterinary professional can intervene to counteract a toxic dose, the less likely your pet will be seriously harmed. Take these steps when your pet eats chocolate:
1. Assess the situation — Gather information about the chocolate type and amount your pet ate, including brand and product names. Try to find the product container or label with information about total weight and an ingredient list.
2. Contact your veterinarian or a pet poison hotline — Call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center for a veterinarian’s advice and to determine the seriousness of your pet’s chocolate ingestion.
3. Follow veterinary advice — Your veterinarian or toxicologist may offer differing advice depending on how much chocolate your dog ate, whether signs have developed, and how long you will take to arrive at the vet clinic. Never induce vomiting unless directed by a veterinary professional.

Week of Halloween- Keep your pets away from the candy.
Chocolate toxicity signs can appear 6 to 12 hours after ingestion, with signs that vary based on the chocolate amount and type consumed. Signs may include:
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Rapid, slow, or irregular heart rate
• Restlessness or hyperactivity
• Uncoordinated movements (i.e., ataxia)
• Tremors or seizures
• Excessive thirst and urination
• Increased body temperature
• Coma
• Death

Miley is a 11 yr old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and began Librela injections back in April and is able to keep up with her 2yr. old sibling in the house and enjoy life again. As our dogs get older they slow down, get stiff and mobility issues set in especially during these colder seasons.

The Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine has a tradition at SDSU to welcome the incoming freshman class with blue Carhart work coats to symbolize the work and the journey ahead of them on their way to a career in Veterinary medicine. What is unique about this program is all coats are sponsored by Veterinarians and Vet clinic – not the university.
You may recognize some familiar faces from Dells Vet and Western Vet – Rebecca Dorn was honored with a coat by her grandfather – Dr. William (pictured) and Dr. Norma Headlee – she will be a 3rd generation Veterinarian. Dr. Dorn had the privilege of coating Marcus Herber and Bobby Feiock by Dr. Chase.
Becky also had the privilege of addressing the group as President of the SDSU Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine. The students will complete 2 years at SDSU then finish their degrees at the University of Minnesota in what is commonly referred to as a 2+2 program.
