🌍💙 Happy World Kindness Day! 💙🌍

Today, let’s celebrate the little acts of kindness that make a big difference in the lives of our furry friends! At Delmar Animal Hospital, we believe kindness is at the heart of all we do—whether it's a gentle touch to ease a pet’s fear or an extra treat after a check-up.

Every day, we see the power of kindness in pet owners like you who go the extra mile to ensure your pets are healthy, happy, and loved. Share a story or picture of your pet below, and let’s celebrate the kindness we can all bring to the world—one paw at a time! 🐾💖

🩻**Our X-Ray Machine is Down** 🩻
One of our longest employees will be retiring this year. In fact, they have already taken their leave.
Our x-ray machine, which has been with the practice since the '70s (but fitted with the newest digital imaging components) has gone out of service.
We will not be able to take x-rays on-site until we replace it, with the timeline being about 3 weeks.
Some procedures may be done through ultrasound and alternative imaging, but others will need to be referred out of practice until the new machine arrives.

10/22/2024

As a reminder, clients (pet parents!) are allowed inside with their pets during their appointment. We just ask you wait in the parking lot if you arrive in a car, in order to limit traffic through the hospital and keep pets calmer. We have had our exam rooms open for several years now 🥰
**Urgent care appointments may need to be on a drop-off basis to accommodate both pre-scheduled appointments and emergencies.

We have heard this question a lot!
The doctors have decided that our lobby will remain closed.

This means no more Waiting Room. But it also means no more lines, faster answers to phone calls and messages, less stress for your pets, and better flow through the hospital. It could even mean less stress for you!

How our system works for appointments:
1. Arrive in our parking lot at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment. If you arrive more than 7 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment but we will do our best to accommodate.
2. Our coordinator will come to your car window and ask your pet's name and last name. If you are scheduled to remain curbside, they will collect your phone number.
3. While you wait, feel free to take a walk (unless instructed otherwise), have a snack, read a book, or just relax in your car's A/C.
4. When the doctor and room are ready, your assistant will be out to the car to bring you inside. Your assistant will leash your dog with a back-up slip lead or carry your carrier for safety.
5. At the end of the appointment, you will be checked out in the room.
6. Your assistant will then help you back to your car.
7. We will reach out to either through a phone call or messaging to schedule any follow-up appointments or procedures after your appointment.

How our system works for prescriptions and other pick-ups:
1. Arrive in our parking lot and park in a space.
2. Our coordinator will be out to check you in.
3. The coordinator will then go back inside and find what you are picking up while you wait comfortably in your vehicle.
4. They will return with the item and a card reader.
5. You will be checked out curbside.
6. Your receipt will arrive in your email.

Have you seen our new QR code on our prescription bottles? We are trying to streamline your refill process with technology! 🤓
How does it work?
1) When you are getting low on your pet's medication, use your cell phone or tablet to scan the QR code on the bottle's lid.
2) Fill out the Jotform with all of the information asked. **We must have the name of the medication, the strength, and your dosing to refill efficiently.
3) Wait 48 hours.
4) Stop by the Delmar Animal Hospital to pick up your medication!

🍂 Cooler Weather, Cozy Pets! 🐾
As the crisp fall air rolls in, it’s time to make sure your pets are ready for the cooler weather! Here are a few tips to keep them safe and comfy this season:
1️⃣ Bundle Up: Short-haired pets might need a cozy sweater for those chilly morning walks.
2️⃣ Watch Out for Cold Paws: Check their paws after walks for any cracks or debris.
3️⃣ Keep Up the Activity: Cooler weather can mean less outdoor time, but indoor play keeps them happy and healthy!
4️⃣ Seasonal Allergies: Pets can have fall allergies too—if your pet’s sneezing or scratching more, give us a call.
Stay warm and enjoy the beautiful fall days with your furry friends! 🍁

Did you know there is a Responsible Dog Ownership Day? It is typically observed on the third Saturday of September. It was first started by the AKC more than 20 years ago as a way to promote and educate people about proper care, training, and health for dogs. Whether this is your first time caring for a dog, or if you have been a dog owner for decades, there is always room to increase your knowledge about our beloved K9 companions and create a closer bond with your pet!
For a list of things you can do to be a responsible dog owner please follow the link below: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/lifestyle/responsible-dog-owner/

What should you do if your pet eats something like your medication or plants and foods that they shouldn't? First step: Don't Panic!
Identify what they ate, how much of the substance they ingested and what time they ate it.
Then contact your veterinarian or local ER and call the ASPCA animal poison control hotline (888) 426-4435 (consult fee may apply). Poison control will give you a case number and a call back number that your veterinarian can use to help your pet recover from the toxicity.

As always seek medical attention immediately if your pet shows signs of: vomiting or diarrhea (especially if bloody or black and tarry), acting agitated or lethargic, having seizures or tremors, abnormal bleeding or bruising, your cat was in contact with lilys, or your pet has had known contact with rat poison.
