Ok ok kidding aside… I’ve heard this joke more times than I can count.
So what does that tell me? People don’t believe the equestrian industry is profitable.
But how could this be true when our industry has an economic impact of $122BILLION annually in the United States alone.
I’ll say that again $122 BILLION 👀
So where are we going wrong?
As equestrians in business, many of us learn by doing. But we have a responsibility to educate ourselves, assess what isn’t working and make strategic moves if we want to see that kind of success in our own business.
Where can you make a change TODAY that could either produce more money or keep more of the money you are already making?! Pick just ONE THING and give it time + energy.

How to feel confident at the barn💪
Confidence is not “Will they like me?”
Confidence is “I’ll be fine if they don’t.”
Most riders believe confidence will come from being liked and admired by everyone at the barn. 🤔
But that’s not where confidence comes from!
It comes from not being fearful of being disliked.
It’s being able to walk into a barn, a show or event with the mindset that I validate myself. ✔️
I am already secure in who I am. ✔️
I’m not on an unfulfilling search for validation from others. ✔️
Because their opinions are something I cannot control.
But there’s plenty that I can control.
Things no one can take from me.
Like my energy, my attitude, how hard I work, my character + how I treat other people. 💫
And knowing I’m in control helps me build confidence 🙌

When you think of the word business, what image pops into your mind?
For me it’s a man and a briefcase from the 80’s.🫠
The US has 12.3 million women-owned businesses that generate $1.8 trillion a year. WOAH!🐴
40% of all US businesses are women owned. That is pretty awesome IMO!!

But what about… the human?
Do you take care of yourself as well as your horse?
It is true we, as equestrians prioritize the care and well-being of our horses over our own self-care. Here’s why:
🥕We feel a strong sense of responsibility towards our horses. We recognize that horses are dependent on us for their care.
🥕Horses form deep emotional connections with us. This bond can create a desire to provide the best care for our horse, sometimes at the expense of our own self-care.
🥕Taking care of horses can be a time + financial consuming task. This can leave little time, money and energy for self-care activities.
While it’s super important to prioritize our horses care, it’s equally important to prioritize your own self-care. The consequences of neglecting self-care can lead to burnout, decreased business productivity and even impact our ability to show up at the barn! This is what I do to try to balance horse care + self-care:
🙌First I decide what self care means to me. What makes me feel good?
Then I’ll allocate specific time for self-care activities.
For me, it’s going to the beach, getting a massage, spending time with those I love or just connecting for a few minutes of quiet mediation.
I treat this time as non-negotiable and prioritize it just as you would prioritize caring for your horse.💯
It’s important to recognize that taking care of yourself is not selfish but necessary for your overall well-being. When you are physically and emotionally well, you can be a better equestrians

How do I avoid the ever so present distractions when I’m trying to get something done?!
💫I create a daily routine that includes dedicated time for working towards whatever it is I have going on. It helps me develop a habit of focus.
💫I’ll eliminate any distractions in my environment. This could be turning off my phone or finding a quiet workspace - people are distractions too!
💫Practicing mindfulness techniques into my daily routine to help stay present and focused. Squeezing in a quick meditation, deep breathing exercises, or just taking a break can clear your mind and refocus.
💫Surround yourself with supportive + positive people who believe in you and encourage your progress. Limit your exposure to negative influences or individuals who may discourage or criticize your efforts. You subconsciously absorb what is around you, I choose the energy that I allow into my space.
💫When I become aware of my negative self-talk, I’ll challenge it with positive affirmations and realistic perspectives. Replace the self-doubt I have with self-belief and instead and I’ll remind myself of my strengths and past successes.
💫Don’t be afraid to reach out to a mentor or coach, or who can provide guidance, encouragement, and accountability. Having a support system can help you stay motivated. Remember, reaching your goals is a journey, and setbacks and distractions are a normal part of the process. Stay committed, be kind to yourself, and keep moving forward 🙌
