🐾 Verify your pet's microchip info: Make sure your contact details are up-to-date.
🐾Schedule a chip scan: Drop by our clinic, and we’ll scan your pet’s chip to ensure it’s working correctly.
🐾Get your pet microchipped: If your pet isn’t chipped yet, it’s never too late! Our team can help with that.

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day! While we hope we never experience this scenario, it is important to be informed in case of an emergency.

🔥 Fire Prevention:
- Pet-proof your home: Keep pets away from stoves and candles.
- Secure Loose Wires: Keep electrical cords and wires out of reach of pets to prevent chewing and potential electrical fires.

🚒 Preparedness:
- Create an emergency plan that includes pets.
- Prepare a pet emergency kit: food, water, meds, leash, carrier, and a recent photo.
- Place pet rescue stickers on windows for firefighters.

🐾 During a Fire:
- Evacuate with your pets if it's safe.
- Use a leash or carrier to keep them secure.

As temperatures rise here in South Florida, the ground gets dangerously hot for our furry friends! 🌞

High temperatures on concrete and asphalt can cause severe burns to your dog's paws in just a minute, so even a quick walk can lead to painful injuries. Test the ground beforehand and try to choose a shaded path or grassy area for walks.

Dog booties can also be a helpful investment for extra protection!

If your pup has ever had a dental with us, it was most likely Erika's expert cleaning skills making your pet's smile bright ✨ With almost 20 years of experience in the field, she assists on surgeries big and small, helping our patients during post-op recovery and often walking our clients through pre- and post-op care.

She is truly an asset to our team, and we are so thankful to have her! 🤍🐾

Happy first day of summer! ☀ While enjoying the summer fun, don’t forget to supervise your pets and keep these safety hazards in mind:

- Swimming Pools: Not all pets are natural swimmers! Always watch pets around pools and ensure they can safely exit the water.

- BBQ Grills & Foods: Keep pets away from grills and foods that can be harmful, such as onions, garlic and alcohol. Bones from cooked meats can also pose a choking hazard.

- Fireworks & Thunderstorms: Many pets are frightened by loud noises. Create a quiet space for them indoors during fireworks and thunderstorms. Consult our team about using calming products if necessary.

- Exercise with Caution: Limit exercise on hot days and avoid walking pets on hot pavement, as it can burn their paw pads. NEVER leave your pet in the car!

- Parasites: Summer is prime time for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes, which can transmit diseases like Lyme disease and heartworm. Keep pets on a veterinarian-recommended prevention program and regularly check for any signs of these pests. We recommend doing a 4DX test once a year!

- Bufo Toads: If you suspect your pet has come into contact with a Bufo toad, rinse their mouth out with water (taking care not to let them swallow the water) and seek immediate veterinary care. Symptoms include excessive drooling, head shaking, vomiting, seizures, and difficulty breathing.

While we are lucky to call sunny South Florida home, as pet owners, we have an added responsibility to manage the high temperatures as the summer heat sets in.

With several recent days on record in the 90s, please remember to refer to the heat index before planning outdoor activities with your furry friends! High temperatures combined with high humidity can make it difficult for dogs to regulate their body temperature, resulting in a higher likelihood of heat stress.

Starting the week of May 27th, Dr. Alicea will be available to see patients on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
