Some of you already know, but I got MYSELF a puppy! His name is Menace, and he is a 15 week old Belgian Tervuran. My goals for him are to compete in Mondio Ring, which is a dog sport that contains a healthy mixture of obedience, protection, and impulse control. Here we are starting him on “object guard” where he has to protect the object, and will need to bite the decoy if he is within 3 meters of him. Learning this sport has definitely changed the way I think of training in so many aspects, and has made me a better trainer all around. I hope to bring that knowledge to all of my clients in one way or another!

Here is an update on Mr. Rufus! Our goal is to get him comfortable and understand what leash pressure means. Yesterday he would bite, run away, and back into a corner trying to escape from even putting the leash on. Maui has fear/excitement based reactivity. I am teaching him that when he sees a trigger (dog or person) he should look to me/ engage with me instead of not knowing what to do. I create the distance from the triggers that is needed so that we work under his threshold (where I can get his focus). I just returned from the most emotional delivery I’ve ever had. Zion is a micro mini berne-doodle from Rocky Mountain Bernedoodles. He was with us for 5 months, of training. He had confidence issues so we worked him through so much! He was nervous during his delivery and the literal hurricane blowing in, but he is now settled and comfortable in his home.
