Our Doberman officially has a brand-new name to kick off his second chance at life with a bangā¦
Please give a warm welcome to Tony Tortellini (yes, the middle name is mandatory )
Tony has been settling into rescue life beautifully.
Heās gentle, sweet, and already acting like heās been part of the crew forever.
He saw the vet yesterday, and honestlyāhis bloodwork was better than we expected, which felt like a huge win.
Out of an abundance of caution, Tony is currently hospitalized on IV fluids to help flush his system and support his body as it heals.
Some of his values are off (which isnāt surprising given what heās been through).
His sodium, chloride, and calcium are elevated, so weāre investigating a few possibilities
things like certain rodenticides, potential medication exposure, or malnutrition-related issues.
Weāre taking the safe and proactive route to give him the best chance possible.
Hereās what weāre doing:
⢠IV fluids with repeat bloodwork to monitor improvement
⢠A PT/PTT panel ā this checks how well his blood is clotting, which is important if thereās any concern about toxin exposure
⢠A von Willebrand panel ā this tests for a clotting disorder that Dobermans are genetically prone to, just to rule it out
⢠A careful refeeding plan to help his body safely adjust to nutrition again
Tony currently weighs 37 pounds⦠and heās meant to be an 80ā100 lb dog.
Watching him begin this healing journey is both heartbreaking and hopefulābut weāre in it with him every step of the way.
Since arriving, heās had a bath, received endless love, and has been thoroughly enjoying being spoiled.
Heās met the crew and has been nothing short of wonderfulākind, ( he was my new years kiss, donāt tell my BF HAHA ) tolerant, and full of quiet gratitude.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has donated toward Tonyās care, kept him in your thoughts, and sent good vibes his way.
This boy finally has a name, a plan, and a futureāand we cannot wait to watch him thriveš©¶
