Does this sound familiar?

Your dog follows you around the room and won't let you out of sight. The moment you show signs of leaving (like putting your shoes on or reaching for your keys), your dog begins to pant, pace or whine.

Even taking a shower begins to feel like a big event, and you're making fewer plans that take you out of the house.

You love this dog like crazy, but you are starting to feel trapped!

Questions are swirling in your mind: How do you know if these signs are normal for a dog or when they have become excessive and need to be addressed? How can you get your dog more comfortable with being alone?

In future posts I'll address how to prevent separation anxiety in pups, how to increase a pup's confidence around independence, and how to manage your own feelings around these behaviors.

For this post, let's just dive into what Separation Anxiety is:

Separation Anxiety describes dogs that are overly dependent on companionship. They consistently become distressed when left alone and can not calm themselves down.

Examples of anxiety might be:

Excessive destruction (digging, scratching, chewing)
Pacing, drooling or extreme restlessness
Inappropriate urination or defecation inside
Attempts to escape
Non-stop panting or licking

A lot of puppies feel nervous when left alone, but it's because they haven't yet been taught how to be alone in ways that are appropriate.

You're getting a puppy and have big hopes and dreams!

You know this dog has the potential to become your best buddy, and you're hoping this pup will be your side kick on many shared adventures!

While you have seen dogs who have no manners, who jump, lunge, bark, beg or pull, you expect this puppy to be different!

The question so often forgotten is:
What does it take to raise a dream dog?

Puppies don't come with instruction manuals, and many new puppy parents assume pups should instinctively know how to behave.

But puppies are babies, and they need to be taught everything!

Starting young with puppy training will give you better skills to communicate with your puppy while also setting your puppy up for a lifetime of success!

Dogs are dogs. Sounds obvious, right?

But think about it, they have canine interests, yet we expect them to fit into our human world.

Learning how dogs think, how to keep them motivated and engaged, how to communicate so a dog understands your commands, how to set a puppy up for success are all skills anyone can learn with proper guidance.

Early puppy training is an investment that gives you peace of mind and allows you to establish a soul satisfying relationship with your dog, like you have always dreamed of.

Time spent educating and bonding with your pup is laying the groundwork for a lifetime of harmony.

Undoing bad habits is harder!

From the moment your puppy comes home, they're learning, whether you realize it or not!

They are soaking up every bit of information you throw their way (including the ones you don't intend!).

Starting early means you can mold them into the well-behaved, polite pooch you've always dreamed of.

But wait, there's more! Early training isn't just about preventing bad habits from forming!

You are saving time and money too! Think of the rug you might need to replace, or the sneakers that got chewed...

Think of the potential injuries you could prevent, and the stress!

Trust me, your future self—and your well-behaved pooch—will thank you!

We’ve been keeping a little secret. ® We have a gorgeous litter of the sweetest little ALDs you ever did see. What is an ALD? * For those of you that may be wondering, they were specifically bred for low-non shedding pups with amazing temperaments with high likability to do service and therapy work. They are also refered to as Australian Labradoodles. “ This breed contains NO Australian Shepard! They are a combination of Labrador Retriever, Cocker Spaniel and poodle. * They really do have amazing temperaments and are the perfect combination of fun and playful while also being laid back and chill snuggle bugs when appropriate. Their beautiful, soft, fleecy coats are something no one can resist putting their hands in. *Spots are limited on this litter and we only plan to have one other litter of ALDs in 2024 so don’t miss out on this opportunity to scoop up one of these little scrumptious morsels of chocolate while you still can.
