A tramp chair was a type of restraint chair used in the mid-19th century to publicly humiliate and remove vagrants. This “chair” was often used for vagrants who could be left inside it for a day or two as encouragement to move along. Made of iron, it would heat up or cool down uncomfortably depending on the weather, and town residents could jeer at and harass the occupant. It left no room to move around.

Can you imagine sitting in this 800lb cage?!

Your horse may not have a driver’s license, a job, or pay taxes, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t learn how to be a respectful, civilized member of society. Manners matter. Just like people, horses need to understand boundaries.
No, it’s not “cute” when they shove into you, drag you to the grass, or nip at your sleeve. It’s rude. And rudeness from a 1,000lb animal can quickly turn dangerous.
Respect doesn’t mean fear. It means your horse recognizes you as the leader and partner. It means they wait their turn, stand politely, walk at your pace, and keep their teeth, hooves, and shoulders in their own space.
Think of it this way: if your horse were a person, would they be the well-mannered friend everyone loves to be around? Or the one no one invites out in public?
Training manners isn’t just about making your life easier. It’s about keeping both horse and human safe. A civilized horse is a happy horse, and a happy horse makes for a proud, stress-free owner. So teach them respect, insist on manners, and raise them to be the kind of “citizen” you wouldn’t mind taking to town. 😉

We are ruining dogs. Period. People keep breeding genetic nightmares and calling it “cute.” Breathing problems, crippled spines, skin infections, eyes that barely stay in their sockets. This is not adorable. It’s cruelty.
Dogs don’t naturally look like this. Humans made them this way by putting looks and trends ahead of health and function. We’ve created animals that can’t even survive comfortably without medical intervention, and then we turn around and call ourselves “dog lovers.” That’s not love. That’s selfishness.
A dog doesn’t care if it looks like a cartoon character. It cares if it can breathe after a game of fetch. If it can run without pain. If it can live longer than 7 miserable years before its body gives out.
If you really love dogs, stop supporting breeders who pump out deformed “designer” disasters just because people want the next Instagram prop. Demand health. Demand function. Demand responsibility. Because until we do, we’re not man’s best friend. We’re their worst enemy.
Loving dogs should mean loving them enough to let them live as dogs, not as broken-down versions of what we thought would be adorable.

How is this cute to anyone?

Someone asked me the other day, “What do we get from horses? I mean, chickens give us eggs. Cows give us milk. What do horses do?”

It made me hesitate for a second. Then I just had to smile. Because the answer isn’t something you can measure in dozens or dollars. This was my reply, “Horses are therapy. They give us a mane to bury our face in on hard days. They teach their riders confidence. They push us to be patient, humble, brave. They strengthen us mentally and physically.“

What we get from horses is so much more than an egg. It’s something deeper. something we carry with us for the rest of our lives.

This is what many people don’t want to deal with…older horses and the little inconveniences, the extra steps it takes to keep them thriving each day. Sitting in the barn, waiting patiently as they finish their warm mash, knowing it takes them longer to eat than it takes you to do all your chores. Watching their joints stiffen, adjusting blankets, mixing supplements, making sure they’re comfortable.
It isn’t always easy. But they gave you their best years, their strength, their spirit, their loyalty. They carried you, trusted you, worked for you. They gave without question.

The least we can do is give back with patience, love, and dignity in their twilight years. Because they deserve nothing less.

You can’t teach personality! You can train a horse to pick up their feet, stand tied, load in a trailer, move off your leg, or even jump a fence. But you can’t teach personality.
Just like people, every horse is born with their own unique character. Some are bold and curious, some are goofy class clowns, some are sweet and cuddly, and others are more businesslike and serious. You can shape their manners and improve their skills, but at the end of the day, who they are shines through no matter what.
And here’s the hard truth: you also can’t train the meanness out of a horse. Sure, you can teach them manners and respect so they know how to behave around people, but a horse with a naturally sour or aggressive personality will always carry that edge. Just like a genuinely kind horse will always carry their softness.
That’s what makes horses so special. You don’t just buy training, bloodlines, or looks. You’re also buying (or inheriting) a personality. And sometimes, it’s that personality, not their talent, that makes them the once-in-a-lifetime partner you’ll never forget.
Because in the end, training can be taught. Skills can be improved. But a good personality? That’s something they’re simply born with.
