"Little Lion's, The Kingdom of Shih Tzu's" came from the original maker of the Shih Tzu breed. They use to be called "Little Lion"s" in China and also known as chrysanthemum dog's. The popular dog's were favorites of the Chinese royals, is where "The Kingdom of Shih Tzu's" came from. The Shih Tzu did not come to the United States until after WWII, when those who served in out military brought them

back from Europe. Shih Tzu's are hypoallergenic, a typical allergy patient will be able to accept a Shih Tzu as their pet. Their history and their name brings me to their temperament, they are a very loyal dogs breed, affectionate, outing, and very alert. They train well and socialization must start at a very young age. Because of this behavior, this breed is excellent for other dog's and children. Improper training can cause a Shih Tzu to nip and bite. This can also enhance the breed to become very peevish. Overall, the breed is a excellent source of companionship because it loves it owners nearby, requires minimal exercise, and is very friendly and outgoing.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

See this picture? It's an Australian Shepherd HERDING the sheep. See the nip? The push with her teeth/muzzle? She's HERDING, not biting! Some Aussies, especially young ones, may do this to their human - and be tossed out of the house for "biting my kid". The Aussie was herding your kid, slowing the kid down from running thru the house, turning the kid toward a different direction, etc...
So many Aussie end up in shelters because humans misunderstood the breed and, instead of teaching the dog appropriate herding behavior, their natural instinct, they toss the dog out of the house.
Make sure you understand what a bite is and isn't. 9 out of 10 times it was inappropriate herding and easily changed.
Always Research the breed!!
