💔This sweet, lovable girl is Princess, a ~3 y/o German Shepherd mix that is looking for a new home. 💔
Princess came to us because her owner passed away. She is so broken hearted about losing her person that she is refusing to eat at the shelter. She isn't even interested in taking treats. Princess is friendly, gentle, seems to be housetrained, knows a few basic commands, and is an all around good dog. She lived with other dogs but a meet and greet is always recommended. Come and meet her today and you will have a devoted and loyal friend. Help mend her broken heart. You can meet Princess at the:

🐾 Bobcats in Your Neighborhood: What You Need to Know 🐾

Bobcats are shy, elusive wild cats that are native to many parts of the U.S., and it's not uncommon to spot one in your neighborhood, especially as urban areas expand into their natural habitats. Here’s what you need to know and do if you encounter a bobcat:

🔍 Identifying a Bobcat:
Size: Bobcats are about twice the size of a domestic cat, weighing between 15-40 pounds.
Appearance: They have a short "bobbed" tail, tufted ears, and a distinctive spotted coat.
Behavior: Bobcats are solitary and mainly active during twilight hours.

👀 What to Do if You See a Bobcat:
Stay Calm: Bobcats are generally not a threat to humans. They are more likely to avoid you.
Make Noise: Clap your hands, shout, or use a loud noise-making object to scare the bobcat away.
Don’t Run: Running may trigger a chase response. Instead, back away slowly.
Protect Pets: Keep your pets close to you or indoors if a bobcat is nearby.

🚫 Minimizing Encounters:
Secure Food Sources: Don’t leave pet food or trash outside as it can attract bobcats and other wildlife.
Close Off Shelter: Block off any potential denning sites like under decks or sheds.
Supervise Pets: Always supervise small pets when they’re outside, especially at dawn and dusk.
Remove Bird Feeders: Bird feeders can attract prey animals, which in turn attract bobcats.

🌿 Coexisting with Wildlife:
Remember, bobcats play a crucial role in controlling rodent populations and maintaining the balance of local ecosystems. By taking simple precautions, we can safely coexist with these beautiful creatures.

If you encounter a bobcat behaving aggressively, call Animal Services at (940) 349-7594. Stay safe and respect our wild neighbors!

To read more on bobcats, visit the National Humane Society.

Conflicts with these elusive, wild felines are rare and preventable.

Meet Hunter: Your Future Best Friend!

Age: 2 years
Size: Large (72.2 lbs)
S*x: Male
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Breed: Unknown (but definitely a bundle of love)

About Hunter:

Hunter is a sweet and gentle soul who has been patiently waiting for his forever home. After spending 75 days in the shelter, this lovable guy is ready to find a family who will appreciate his affectionate nature and help him overcome his nerves.

What Hunter is Like:

Affectionate and Gentle: Hunter is incredibly gentle, especially with treats and new friends. He loves to cuddle and has a special way of winning hearts. He’s received love from everyone he’s met, both men and women, and he’s very fond of receiving cuddles.

Smart and Eager to Learn: Hunter already knows commands like “sit,” “paw,” and “come,” and he’s making progress on learning his name. He’s a smart pup who enjoys engaging with his humans and is motivated by treats.

Car-Ride Companion: Hunter rode well in the car and knows how to get in, though he needed a bit of coaxing initially. He’s a good traveler and would make a great co-pilot on your next road trip!

Gently Nervous: Hunter can be a bit jumpy and nervous in new situations, particularly around moving cars and busy places like Starbucks. However, he’s slowly learning to build confidence and is very receptive to treats and affection from strangers.

Leash Manners: He’s mostly leash trained with a harness and tends to pull only when startled. With consistent training and patience, Hunter will make great strides in his leash manners.

Family-Friendly: Despite his nervousness, Hunter’s gentle nature makes him a good candidate for a home with small children. Once he overcomes his jumping, he’ll thrive in a loving family environment.

Hunter’s Ideal Home:

Hunter would do best in a home where he can receive plenty of love and attention to help him build confidence. A family that is patient and understanding of his nervous tendencies will be perfect for him. He’d appreciate a stable environment with a secure yard or a quiet neighborhood where he feels safe.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will shower you with affection and is ready to learn and grow with you, Hunter is your guy! Come meet him and see if he’s the perfect match for your family.
