We’re still riding the high from our 5-year anniversary celebration on August 19! 🥳

Surrounded by 400 of our closest friends, family, and furry kiddos, we enjoyed over 60 raffle prizes, amazing vendors, delicious food and drinks, and the kind of energy you never want to end.

Out of 200+ photos, it was nearly impossible to choose just 20 to share—but each one captures the love and joy of the day. 💛

To everyone who came, who continues to support, who shares our mission and shows up when we need you most: thank you. You are the heart of FOJR.

Meet Lavender – your future best friend! 💜

Also known affectionately as Lavvy or Lilly, this sweet girl has a heart as soft as her name. Rescued just in time from a shelter in Houston, Lavender is now safe in Colorado and ready for a fresh start with a forever family.

She’s house-trained, food-motivated, and always up for life’s simple joys—belly rubs, friendly faces, doggy playdates, and leisurely walks. While she arrived a bit underweight, her tail hasn’t stopped wagging since. With every meal (her favorite time of day!), her loving personality shines a little brighter.

Lavender is gentle, affectionate, and eager to bond. She’s the kind of dog who will follow you from room to room, just happy to be near you.

If you’re searching for a loyal, loving companion to share your days and your heart, Lavender is ready and waiting. Could she be the missing piece in your life?

FOJR Family, meet Daisy.

Yesterday we rescued this beautiful girl after learning she had suffered months of abuse and neglect.

Daisy was given away at just 6 months old on the Nextdoor app. The person who took her in didn’t give her love or safety—instead, he abused her for 5 months. Today she is emaciated, fearful, and shut down… but most importantly, she is safe.

We share Daisy’s story as a reminder:

1️⃣ Abuse and neglect happen right here in our community. Not just far away, not just in “other” places—right here in Denver, in our own backyards.
2️⃣ Please don’t rehome pets on Craigslist, Nextdoor, or similar sites. Without proper screening, dogs can easily fall into the wrong hands. If you need help, reach out to a reputable rescue.

We appreciate your support and trust in us with every dog we take in. We treat them as family, because they are. 💛 Stay tuned for more updates on Daisy’s recovery and her journey to finding her forever home!

A new law went into effect in Colorado today that protects pets from exploitation by backyard breeders and we couldn’t be happier! As of August 6, it’s now illegal to sell, give away, offer, or advertise a pet in public spaces like streets, parking lots, parks, and outdoor markets. (Unless you’re a licensed organization, like us.)

This targets backyard breeders’ primary sales locations AND their methods of sales. It’s a major step in the right direction. Here’s to protecting the animals we love so much!

Kerrigan! 💙

Say hello to Kerrigan, a 7-month-old shepherd mix who’s melting hearts one cuddle at a time! With his soft coat, soulful eyes, and that irresistible puppy breath (yes, it’s still going strong!), Kerrigan is the kind of pup who makes you fall in love instantly.

Kerrigan is a gentle soul who thrives on routine, encouragement, and love. He’s currently building his confidence and learning the ropes of the big wide world with the help of consistent positive reinforcement—and he’s making amazing progress! Every day, he grows a little more sure of himself, especially on leash, where he’s learning to walk like a pro.

He’s incredibly friendly and gets along beautifully with everyone—kids, adults, and fellow dogs alike. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, going for a stroll, or playing in the yard, Kerrigan is happiest when he’s by your side.

Forever A Friend of Jack Friday 🐾🩷

“I adopted Peach (formerly Sweet Potato Pie) in March of 2022. When the time was right, I knew I wanted to go through a Friend of Jack to find my furever friend. I had followed AFOJ for a while and fell in love with many of their dogs and their process. They helped match me with a dog that fit my life perfectly, and it was love at first sight with Peach. Her foster family had done an amazing job training her at just a few months old, and when I found out they had been calling her Peach, it was a done deal. I am from Georgia and knew this was a sign!

Peach is the perfect dog. She is sweet, silly, and equally loves to run around and herd dogs as much as she loves to lounge on the couch. She is a belly rub queen and loves every human she meets. She is a little timid but always warms up to other dogs, and she has gained so much confidence over the years through training and by going to agility classes! I am so grateful to AFOJ and my life wouldn’t be the same without my best friend.”
