Hijinks in the snow!
Dec 30 2021 We brought the horses in at 4:00 pm to have an early supper. We could not promise what the next few hours would bring. The wind was wild. The sky was black with smoke. The ash lay heavy on everything. We could hear the alarms going off in Louisville 12 miles away.
We were 3 miles east away from the evacuation line. But if the fires kept on and came east to highway 287, it would take very little time to reach our place. Our horse trailer was hitched and ready. I called the cats in. My bag was filled with cat and dog food. Fear lay heavy upon me.
And then like a light switch, the winds died down. By 8:00 pm, we knew our animals could sleep in their own beds another day. I am humbled by this experienced. My story ended in peace. My prayers go out to all who have a different story to tell.

The snow is like the most welcome fluffy blessing. It was supper time again. The sun was low and glistening across the field. The horses were at their stall gates begging to get out after two days of confinement. Some of you know about Little Bit. He has suffered a nerve and pre-diabetic issue. He had to be walked every day to keep his muscles working. The condition came on last winter. A year of suffering. We let Big ole Paulo and Miss Chiquita out. Oh they jumped and and kicked up their heels in the snow. Little Bit pushed his tiny nose against his gate.
Should we? Oh man, he wanted out so bad. I said a prayer and let him go.
Oh that boy could make the snow fly! He jumped. He kicked. He trotted. Bob and I just stood dumbfounded. He had not moved like that in over a year. The 3 horses circled one another in a worshipful dance of joy. And always Paulo and Chiquita were so careful not to bump or kick Little Bit.
I had to share this story. We saw with our own eyes a dance of joy made by 3 horses that had never been done before. A dance for one little horse that would be called impossible. And yet, as the sun dropped low in the sky 3 horses danced to the promise that God is in His heaven and all will be well again! My friends, wherever you are please know that today I saw a tiny little miracle. And I knew it was my wonderful God promising that He will mend your wounds and you will jump again. If my little horse could be healed, just imagine how much more God loves you. Maybe we all should take time to go dance in the snow. God bless you.

Oh my, my heart is just so full. The love you have sent to Sunny Horse absolutely proclaims that goodness does exist in this world in abundance.
The gentle loving man who is Little Bit's veterinarian will cry just like me when I take in a check to pay his bill. Yes my friends there are still doctors who care more about their patient then how soon a bill can be paid. How have a been so blessed to be surrounded by so much goodness? I am humbled. I am about to take a little lunch to my horses. I will hug them all from each of you. And remember, if you need a horse hug, all you gotta do is call. We are here.
My love to you all.
P.

If my horse riding skills were as poor as my computer skills, I would be eating a lot of dust. I have attempted this post more times now than I can count. Thank God for my helpful spouse.

Here is what I keep trying to say...Thank you! We have, as you know, a program for horses and veterans at no charge. We operate on pure donation. And the main expense is that horses need to be fed, exercized, vaccinated, and trimmed. You are the ones who keep this program going. Thank you.

I have so many incredible stories in my head of the beautiful and intimate encounters I have witnessed between a hurting individual and the rock steady love of the horse. I don't share these stories because they are so very private. When I do it is because lots of time and such has passed so that the individual will probably not even recognise themself in the story.
ROCK STEADY
This veteran had seen some hard times. This veteran had a harsh face and he sure didn't want me to know he cared anything about coming to see my horses. He was bored. But he agreed to take a brush and rub on 38 year old, dusty, Buddy. As he brushed the horse he stopped talking so much and just began to breath with Buddy. Buddy closed his eyes and relaxed in his horsey way.

"try this I said, "put your hand on Buddy's heart(between his front legs) and then steady yourself with your other hand on his withers(top of neck). now just listen to his
breath."
This veteran got very quiet. He held Buddy until he looked wobbly. I told him to lean on Buddy's back. He did and then the horse magic began. Deep from within the veteran's chest came loud gutteral cries. He began to shake and collapsed to his kness and held his hands to his face and sobbed. Now most horses might jump a bit or dance if someone was sobbing under their feet. Not our Buddy. He is rock steady. He knows healing when it comes because he too was beat up and broken at one time. And that is the gift of the horse. horses do not judge. They just give their strength to man when needed and trust that at the end of the day man gives back in the way of a nice mound of hay.

And that is just one story. So many begin in this same way. Veteran meets horse. Horse gives his heart. Veteran finds some peace and maybe a bit of healing of memories too painful to ever share. We do not judge here at Sunny Horse. We are not therapist. We just offer some good ole' horse medicine. The rest is up to man, horse and yes, God!

“IT’S ALL HORSE PUCKY TO ME”
GREETINGS FROM THE SUNNY HORSE FOUNDATION
PAM, BOB AND THE 5 HORSES
I went out to talk with my horses and two horses had a lot to say to you. I will attempt to put to pen their words “straight from the horse’s mouth”.
PAULO’S WORDS: It began with some head bobbing and foot stomping.
“Muhhhhhhhh! I am bored. No one came to play at my house lately. And then it snowed. Hmmmmmmhhh! Stomp, stomp. I feel isolated. And I hear that is to be the way of things. Some kind of plan called “social distance.” Waaahahah. I just want to get out and run. Oh, and have some grass. Hmmmmmmah. It sort of reminds me of that time long ago when I was abandoned. I know I am okay. But there are these little memory triggers in me. And suddenly I feel all anxious again. I have to fight my desire to melt away into sad. Hmmmmah. Snort, snort. But then my people, Pam and Bob came on out to muck the stalls, prepare our dinner, and give us a little bit of grooming. Pam put on some music. Oh yeah, whehhhhhhh, I was all in with the music and the brushing. Mmmmmhohahoha. Oh I love this attention. Whehhhh. I am dancing. Look at me! Come on my fellow buddies, let’s dance in the mud. Hahhhhhh. I just sent a splat of mud on Bob. Wheeeehhhh! I love to play!”
And so, that is what Paulo had to say to you all. Bob and I spent some time with him. He got a little lovin’ care, good music and a chance to dance. The energy changed and his somber mood was lifted. It is such a simple formula and yet so powerful. May you, today, let the energy of the caring hearts around you set your heart free! And dance!
“Oh Yehhhhhhhhhhhhh!” says Paulo.
