A fun little get to know us here at Rescue Me PA post. We hope you’ll enjoy learning a little more about our family.
WE ARE Rescue Me PA.
Together, with my husband, and 3 homeschooled teen boys, we jumped all in over a year ago. I won’t ever pretend it was easy or smooth sailing, there were many highs and incredibly low lows. The biggest thing is we didn’t give up. There are way more working parts to rescue than anyone can imagine (unless you’re in rescue 😉) There were many times I felt like I couldn’t do it, I had to pull myself out, but IM STILL HERE, and feeling better than ever.
We started with a couple AWESOME fosters who have done amazing things for the dogs. We will be forever thankful for the dedication to rescue work that they and all others put in daily.
We have fostered (and whelped) entire litters, adults, large and small, breeder surrenders, backyard breeder surrenders, and shelter pulls. Every single one is special and hold a place in our heart. We consider our home to be a great healing place for those that need it, we have space set up for decompressing dogs, we live on a small homestead so the dogs are exposed to chickens, goats, VERY friendly cats who aren’t afraid of dogs, and many other dog friends (slow introductions always, of course). I feel like we have more toddler and baby gates in our home now than when our kids were little 😆 We are able to give adopters a pretty basic idea of the needs of the dogs we rescue prior to adopting them out. We can typically get a good sense of their temperament around all of the different animals.
Headed into 2025 we have a very clear mindset of what we want our rescue to look like. I, Amanda, have been diagnosed with auto immune, lupus to be exact. I got nailed 3 years ago with intense all over body pain, skin rash (our largest organ), extreme fatigue, and more. We have hit it head on with diet changes, supplements, doctors, meds (many don’t work or come with a host of other side effects that aren’t easy to work with). This is where our name comes into play. “Rescue Me”, we always feel THEY help us (and myself with lupus and healing mentally) in more ways than one, and it can be hard to explain. “Rescue Me PA” came about many years ago in my mind with a very close friend who also does rescue transport while we were on a rescue run together. As a family, we adore ALL dogs, but our favorite specific breed is a corgi. So many end up in rescue because of their herding instincts, along with other herding breeds, but that doesn’t stop us. All dogs matter, there is a special home, a special foster, a special rescue for each and every breed. Due to my restrictions and doing a lot of the leash training and such, my hands will only handle medium or smaller breeds, which is why we typically have younger large breeds or adult medium breeds in. My husband and sons, of course, are drawn to extra large breeds but due to my limitations and also that some of our dogs don’t do well with huge dogs, we have to limit to keep the peace for resident dogs as well. We never want to upset any of our resident loves.
Things we love about rescue that keeps us going:
🐾Updates‼️
🐾Photos‼️
🐾Shares and likes❕
🐾Breakthrough moments with learning potty, crate, leash and more.
🐾Freedom rides❕(Being a part of this first ride to a better life has always been life changing for me)
🐾Healing ❕(watching a dog heal from trauma, medically or mentally/emotionally.
🐾 Adoption days‼️ Watching our adopters get EXCITED, this is what we want in an adopter, we love excitement, watching them meet their new love and showing them it’s going to all be ok, ONE LAST MOVE.
I’m sure I’m missing others, but that’s a start. Our boys have a hand in each dogs turn around. We are small, and that’s where we want to be. We want to be able to help what we can when we can but lessen stress drama (yes, human drama in rescue is REAL). This is about the dogs for us, and doing RIGHT by our adopters.
Our 501c3 is in the works, we have finally gotten our electronic applications working well, and next is finishing the agreements electronically.
We accept Venmo, PayPal, and cash app donations. We’ve even been mailed checks for donations for the pups.
Adoptions don’t end the day you take them home, we are here for all of our adopters, we help them all through the first days which can be the hardest, we build relationships and enjoy every step of the journey.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being here, following, sharing, commenting, donating, adopting, and more. We owe it to you all! 🐾🎉 Happy 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣🎉🐾
