Welcome to our new series, The Sunday Subject! Where every Sunday, we highlight an interesting case that we saw that week.
First up is Pistachio! This sweet gecko came in today for evaluation of a swollen, distended eye. Dr. Binkerd determined that she had fluid building up behind the spectacle of her eye, and this can occur due to infections, poor sheds, or a clogged nasolacrimal duct. To remove the fluid, this gecko received sedation and Dr. Binkerd drained the fluid using a small needle. This procedure allows us to alleviate discomfort, and send the fluid off for testing. Our sweet friend made a smooth recovery and is feeling much better! If you ever notice that your reptiles are having eye concerns, we recommend them being seen as soon as possible - we are here 24/7!
In this video, you can see Dr. Binkerd draining the fluid from her eye. Swipe to the next post to see sweet little Pistachioโs before and after! ๐ฆ
Happy National Pet Day from Trevor and Norbert ๐
Today is an exciting day at Alameda East!
Our friend Howard is finally going home after spending 2 weeks in our ICU. Howard had Brachycephalic Airway Surgery to help make it easier for him to breathe but ended up having complications post surgery and an additional hernia repair as well. We are so proud of this tough guy and can not be happier to see him doing so well. Although we are sad to see him leave, we could not let him leave without a proper send off.
We love this good boy and wish him all the best โค๏ธ

Bobby Brown goes home! โญ๏ธ
Yesterday was a good day at Alameda East, Bobby Brown got to go home!
Bobby Brown was discharged after 10 long days of treatment for immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA). This disease caused Bobby's immune system to attack and destroy his own red blood cells. He required multiple transfusions and a treatment called therapeutic plasma exchange. This involved drawing blood from Bobby so that we could discard his own plasma and replace it with donor plasma. He was a trooper through it all and the whole hospital fell in love with him.
We miss him already but are so happy to see him go home ๐
Our Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
