When we were working to (which we did!) we had a ton of support. We also had folks saying this doesn't happen for pitties. We here's your chance to help King
King has this one animal control event caused when he was stung by wasps or hornets (not sure which). The pain caused him to lash out. The family called Animal Control for HELP. King was court-ordered to the shelter after he bit family members. The family says he is a good dog INCLUDING the family members he bit. They want him to live.
Let's make sure he does.

It's national puppy day and the PVCD wants to help bring awareness to the growing issue of buying pets from puppy mills and backyard breeders that often keep animals in horrendous conditions to maximize their profits. It's always best to adopt from shelters and rescues who truly care for the well being of our animals. Check out this article for more information:

CSU's pre-vet day will be taking place on Saturday Oct 12th. This event will take place at the CSU campus and include lectures and labs surrounding veterinary medicine. This can include skills labs, stories about what working in the field is like, as well as alternative paths one may take and still be a vet. Some possible lectures you could attend include zoo enrichment, wildlife conservation, or cardiology.
Current pre-vet club officers can help collect money and forms on the auraria campus. We can bring it up to the event organizer at CSU. Please fill out the forms attached and a check of $25. Checks should be CSU Pre-vet. I know it is short notice, but the pre-vet club at CSU would love to have these forms by Friday. You can submit these forms by facebook messaging the club with an attachment as long as you are 100% sure you want to attend. We can schedule when to meet to deal with the money /check through messenger as well.

Here are Google doc links to the forms required to attend CSU Pre-vet day:

Are you interested in helping wild raptors? Would you like to see a hawk up close and see as it is nursed back to health? Do you want experience watching behaviour and helping wildlife/ exotics? The birds of prey foundation takes in injured raptors to rehabilitate them for release. If this sounds like something you can see yourself doing, please check out their website linked below. This great foundation is looking for volunteers. You can sign up on the website, or if there are enough CU students who are interested a private orientation has been offered to us. Email [email protected] if you are interested in the private orientation. Renee is a current volunteer who will help schedule this private orientation with a staff member at birds of prey.

Volunteers help every week in the morning of their assigned day. Cage cleaning around raptors and daily needs to keep the facility functioning are some jobs a volunteer may do. This allows volunteers to help the facility as well as watch bird behaviour and chart improvements in the birds. Thursdays are exceptionally needing of volunteers. If you have any question you can email [email protected] or a current volunteer at [email protected]

AAVMA applications are closing soon (September 17th). Don’t be afraid to put in an application to your top school; vet school is competitive, but you are too. The average vet student applies 1.2 times before attending a school. This just shows us all that this cannot be a rush. Live life to the fullest and work hard to get into vet school, but do not give up. This can be a hard path ahead, but that shouldn’t deter a pre-vet student who really wants to be a vet. Look towards the end goal, play with some puppies, kittens, snakes, or other animals to remember why you are doing all this hard work, and keep your head up. If you ever don’t know if what you are doing is correct, speak with someone. Your school of choice has advisors to speak to about the program, you can contact students at the school, come to a pre-vet meeting to hear what other pre-vet students are doing, or search online for what school’s average admittance rate is.
Hours in a clinic/ with a vet, amount of different species, grades, and test scores are not the only thing that vet schools look at. They look at the individual. Grow and achieve while you head down this path. Develop yourself in hobbies and passions and have fun. While this is hard work becoming a vet, life still exists. Working hard towards the end goal is important, but so is everything else also.
